Are the 4000-4400 series good enough lathes to scratchbuild HO/HOn30/N scale model locomotives out of brass?

I only want to make tank engines with a 0-4-0 to 0-6-0ST wheelbase in HO, a wide variety of different locomotives in HOn30, and also a wide variety of locomotives in N scale. The models I want to go for are obscure and weird prototypes that haven't been produced by the big model railroading manufacturers.

hell yea, model autists on the board. I have no lathe experience, but it always seemed to me that the little sherlines and other benchtop lathes are perfectly fine for model builders, and the only people screeching about them are expecting them to do actual machine shop work for production.

idk tho, but post pics of builds regardless

Possibly but 4chan has too few model railroaders to do you any good. Goto proper train venues if you want information.

I also suggest fabbing or finding (Fecesbook Marketplace is a good source) a convenient stable cart on which to mount your lathe and store tooling.

Just use a resin 3D printer
