school me on wood stoves.

what is diff about design that makes them EPA Cert, and would(pardon pun) that matter if installing in my house somewhere in flyover country? Will I need permits if I live in a Gun Rights state? If I do some construction that requires inspection for other reasons, will some Inspector flag my recently installed Wood Stove?

I thought they got Cat Converter to cut pollution and that also greatly increased heat, but don't see that in any current model mentions.

How important or not is a window? Should a rookie like me get a window model?

These guys mention a Cat and its some "hybrid".

Are they all like that, with secondary pre-heated air like these? https://www.woodstove.com/ideal-steel-hybrid-wood-stove

Would blowing on a wood stove with normal household fan greatly increase heating and why don't I see that?

What about Picrel that also functions as an oven with thermometer?

I see goofy fans that attach to double walled flu, but why not just bore some big holes at top and bottom of outer flu?

Instead of outer flu, why not a bunch of fins?

>do you live in a town full of busy body geezers wandering around looking to rat out their neighbors?
>is your neighbor a rotten karen and/or have you pissed her off with something?
>is you town or county currently on a tax or ordinance rampage?
if you answered yes to any of the above you better do it by the book
if no then tread quietly and dont draw any undue attention and youll likely be fine unless you smoke out the karen neighbor too often right off the bat

Watching the fire is the best part.

Yes, ceiling fans also work well to circulate the warm air. People often have a heat powered fan sitting on the stove top like pic related, especially if they depend on the stove in case of power outage.

All the reviews on these say they suck. You can blow more air with a couple AA batteries.

This is true. I've got one and it can't even move a tissue. It's a novelty item. Got a Vornado fan in the corner of the room blowing into the opposite ceiling corner, it kicks ass. Whole common area from ceiling to floor is the same temp.

If there's smoke coming from your slow combustion fire then you're doing it wrong. I can get to smokeless burn in under 10 minutes from cold.
>>2929480 (OP)
If you want maximum heat retention look into rocket mass heaters. It's a wood fire that circulates the flue gasses through a stone/earthen mass which absorbs the heat and slowly releases it over time.

Even in anti-stove epaulets areas like California, you xmcan still usually run them, unless it's really cold then they say there's a no burn order because ghat would be too much. Now it depends on Karen's and enforcement shit. I lived in an area so poor no-one reported shit.

Also we had a pellet stove so a little more controlled burn, but now you can't put your own wood in the stove. Was still like 1/3 the cost of a gas heater and cozy

batch box rocket mass heater is pretty reliable, burns clean and hot storing heat in large masses of earth and rock to radiate out over the day

Don't you think of smoke as un-burnt fuel? It clogs up the flue, smokes up the front glass and makes the neighbors complain. If a truck runs rich it emits a lot of smoke, wasted money.

Maybe a difference of geography. We only burn hardwood eucalyptus, red gum etc. When I've burnt pine yes it disappears in minutes. A big chunk of red gum lasts hours. It also doesn't get to minus temperatures here, only gets to 0c/32f once or twice a year.

Just built this bad boy. The barrels were previously full of maple syrup (no Iโ€™m not a leaf, but a northern USA flyover). Plan on heating my barn with them. I want to pop it outside about 5ft or so above the stove, but do I have to run it all the way up my (metal) barn wall?

I'm thinking just one of these $26 Walmart units. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lasko-16-3-Speed-Adjustable-Oscillating-Pedestal-Fan-Black-S16500-New/42379869

Don't over think it and also real good for cooling in hot weather in the garage or WTF.

Main prob I've got with E-Fans is they don't have a low enough setting. I tried once using a Rheostat to reduce power but made weird load buzzing noise, and probably real bad for the motor.

Interesting about Rocket Mass Oven and efficiency, but do all modren EPA Cert stoves have the pre-heated air secondary clean burn feature and/or CAT Converters for clean burn AND extra high temp boost, or not?

They work on the same principle, which is why they suck. The heating type in question is already radiant a small space it doesn't really matter so much as the amount of time you continuously output the heat. It's moving enough airflow just by being hot that that little fan isn't going to amount to much. It would unironically be better to use the space on top for pots of water or wax to act as mass heaters/heat capacitors when the fire finally goes out.

The best blower fireplace types are the triple walled ones that blow from the back/top/under/around the fireplace which helps maintain the fireplace itself and outputs a tremendous amount of heat because all the surfaces are effectively cooled. You will have more efficiency by running a higher airflow to reach areas of your house that your other heating doesn't because it can utilize more heat that would have been wasted up the chimey. The also make heat reclaimers for chimneys

our main woodstove is in the SE corner of the Great Room, at 45ยฐ angle. when we built our house, we had two 8" variable speed 800cfm HVAC fans installed between the basement and ground floor, to prevent stagnant air & mold in the basement. one of the 8" outlets comes up behind the woodstove. I just set a 45ยฐ angle on top of the grate to angle it at the back of the stove.

excellent airflow.
