I'm trying to replace the shower cartridge but ran into this problem. The previous dumbass contractor put this plate behind the fiberglass and it seems impossible to remove the sleeve without cutting the fiberglass to get it out. Any ideas? Do I just gotta man up and use elbow grease to get it out? I've watched a million videos online but nobody has this plate

the plate is plastic, you can just cut it up and rip it apart and let it fall to the floor
you could also cut the access hole larger
but if you're just changing the cartridge there's no reason to
yank off that tiny circular metal sleeve and use a moen catridge puller and that's it
tile guard isn't in the way
also sqtddtot

uh i guess i should also tell you to turn the water off first and if that thing has been in there for a decade or two or more you're quite likely to just break it and be fucked
i've seen it twice in the past week, then you're calling a plumber to pay 1000$ to put a new valve in

if I leave the sleeve on, I wouldn't be able to remove the clip on top right? I was trying to remove the sleeve to access the little metal clip

if you pull the chrome sleeve off you should be able to access it, yes

thanks brotha I got it off. Ended up drilling the plastic off around the sleeve and it slid right off. You're a life saver my man. I really appreciate it. I thought the plate was metal! That was what was holding me back the whole time. Thanks again
