grover had the old school /diy/ opinion that he could do anything another man could do.

he even went onto diy forums for advice, got told stuff he was going was beyond diy skills, and he ignored it and went ahead anyway.

I just watched the half hour long video that the anon above posted. Your synopsis pretty much sums it up. Didn't see anything glaringly horrible about it that would cause everyone to seethe. Just a guy building an addition to his house on a budget. Big whoop.

i mean, it did sink, because he build it in the great dismal swamp, and he didn't actually connect the foundations correctly, and he remove load bearing walls, to add a doorway then mounted cabinets on the walls that were not at a noticeable (i think it was a 6 degree?) angle, and he melted half the siding off with a bbq, and all the windows dont match (but that was in his original design mock up paint image, so i dunno), and he insulated the space under his stairs, but not the actual walls in places, and the lighting in his den was mounted so it shines in his afce while watching tv, and just about every step was punctuated by poor choices he could have avoided if instead of sticking to his first idea, he had stopped, taken a step back to look at the job as a whole instead of a list of individual steps, he could have save a LOT of money, hastle, and his internet reputation.

oh and also he was a moderator for a military forum, pulled rank on serving military member, despite never being a serving member, and did all the current day "discord moderator" bullshit before it was cool, so people took any opportunity to laugh at him, like any time moot did anything cringe.

That's also something you see pretty often from actual developers these days so I can hardly even blame him on that, even if I wouldn't dream of doing it myself.
