Soon i will have to spend 5 days a week in a dorm or another house. Weekends will be spent at home. At the moment i have a large gaming setup that will be too unpractical to assemble/disassemble 2+ times a week. Because of that i have been thinking about a gaming laptop but due to previous bad experiences with laptops and the other disadvantages with them im not very keen on that idea. Other option would be to build a "hybrid" desktop/laptop as in building a mini itx pc that i would place in a briefcase along with 2 folding hinged screens and keyboard/mouse readily available. It would still be easy to transport and would only take 1-2 minutes to pack up while still having the power/longetivity of a desktop.
Has anyone done something like this?
(My english is not very good and it certainly shows)

This is just asking to get robbed/broken. Just buy a steam deck or something adjacent in the meantime

Not really the right board for this, but gaming laptops usually suck and obviously you can't upgrade them. Mini ITX cases are easier to haul around than you'd think, the monitor is a bigger problem usually. I have an old Ncase like picrel and it fits in a backpack with room to spare for accessories.

I carried my desktop full tower with me for 6 years. Had 2 screens at home, 2 screens at uni, keyboards at both places. If you don't have a car, most of a modern PC can be refactored into a small form factor, barring very big GPUs.
Briefcase idea would suck because you couldn't fit any decent sized LCDs twice into a briefcase.

Depending on what kind of gaming you want to do... I was forced into using my Steamdeck as a desktopspare when my real gaming rig broke. And it's been pretty solid with a docking station.
Would recommend

Get a terminal/email shitter and reduce your gaming hours. As you get older, it'll happen anyways.

I would like to have something like this but they just don't exist, I've had to settle for just keeping a laptop in a briefcase and having a portable monitor in there as well.
I visit my grandma everyday at the nursing home, basically I set the briefcase on my little table, open it, pull out the keyboard, mouse, portable monitor, plug it in, run the extension cord to an outlet, and the laptop charger stays in the briefcase.
It's not perfect, but it works well enough.

I have a steam deck + dock + 15" portable pc monitor from Amazon (has a built in kickstand to use anywhere) and a small backpack to carry it all + my peripherals around. Works for me.
