obviously plan on replacing the bad sections
but what would cause a leak like this?
bad glue job? chemical corrosion?

aren't you suppose to run copper for like the first 8" -12"? ptherwise the heat will melt pex/pvc

Don't use plastic in water supply pipes. ABS is fine for drains, but that's it. PVC is for sprinklers at best. Do it right and you only have to do it once.

Why are you running boiling water through your lines? There is no reason to heat water to >100 degrees.

Also well known to leech garbage into the water. Just rip it all out and replace it with PEXAL composite. PPR if he's very cheap.

Yes, of course it is. Shit turns into chalk after a couple of decades. Time to rip it all out and replace with pex.

How fucking retarded are you? Look at your picture. Does it look fine? Tell your "friend" to stop being a cheap fuck and put copper in. At least the first 12" like the other anon said. And stop being so trusting of brands, I bet they test at 180ยฐ for like 5 minutes a couple times, if that much, and call it good. Clearly a few decades has proven it is not good for this application.

I've got a water heater that was installed in 1973. It has copper pipes going to and from it. No pinholes in the pipes yet. The rest of the house is galvanized steel. Also rock solid. If it weren't for the roots that keep getting into the cast iron drain pipes those would be fine too. As it is I have to snake them once every few years.

maybe the 90's aren't cpvc, or maybe the glue isn't correct. purple primer can be used, but isn't required if using yellow or orange glue

Contractor here. See the colors? Someone used pvc (white) fittings on cpvc (yellow) pipe.

That's gonna require complete replacement. In an occupied house it can suck to do this work. If possible run all the new pipes in addition to the existing and then swap the feeds and connections all the same day. If not, you'll need to figure out a different strategy.

I use Uponor pex, white only. Buying blue and red will waste more material. Nylon fittings. If you don't want to use expansion pex stainless cinch rings are next best.

Build manifolds at the beginning, with shutoffs on each feed. Run 3/4" lines to each room. T off those into1/2" to individual fixtures.

Pipe will run $500-600. Fitting will be $200 more at most. The rest is labor and maybe sheetrock repair. You can do it.
