Bottom one is way too tilted back and has that shitty curve at the front of the seat that makes your legs fall asleep

Both look like they either are supposed to be movie props or hurt if you sit in them for more than 30 minutes

Alternatively drill a hole, insert jigsaw and cut a hole with it. Maybe even drill a hole and use a router.

The real question is do you do a taper, install a nylon basket, use a stainless cup insert, or make a wood hoop to hold the beverage? Those chairs with a slot in the arm to hold a wine glass do not need to apply.

Honestly because of how thick those boards are for the arms, at least 1 1/2" I was considering just putting 2 parallel strips on the bottom side of the board. Figure a 3 inch hole saw would be fine for a beer and say the strips were 1/2"x 1" you could evenly space them for 3 >3/8" gaps which will allow for drainage and be solid enough to hold a wine glass or whatever. Only problem is that doesn't give a lot of protection for your drink to keep it from being knocked over. Next thought is a 4" hole saw through a 1x and use the core for a base of sorts. I'll center it on the bottom of the 3" hole, clamp it in place, and drill probably 5 1/4" holes through it evenly at the edges. Draw a star to help line then up. Only drill ~1" into the arm. Then cut 5 pieces of 1/4" wooden dowel. A beer can is about 4 1/2 inches. You'll want to be able to grab the top to get it out so let's go for 3.75 inches of can coverage. Assuming the arm boards are 1.5" like a typical 2x we'll need 2.25 inches between the bottom of the arm and the top of 1x circle. We drilled an inch into the arm board so we'll add an inch, and the 1x is 0.75 so we'll also add that. Cut the dowels to about 4 inches. Glue and line everything up, sound the dowels flat on the bottom and sand a roundover on the hole. Congrats, you got a little sexy suspended beer cage. You can then wrap the whole thing with fabric for better insulation. That's what I'd do at least, wouldn't need to buy anything extra.because I have all that stuff on hand.
