Would it be retarded to get one of these folding garden gates to secure a sliding glass door? I'm on a serious budget here, but I have a massive sliding glass door on my double wide that I'd like to secure when I'm not at home. This seems like an easy and effective way to do so. Otherwise I'm looking at paying >$800 for a double storm door.

Secure from intruders? Just put a piece of 1x4 in the track behind the door. If they want in they're just going to snatch that down and break the door either way

You see, the patio door is retardedly my front door. I know, the house is a weird layout. So I can't put it in the track unless I leave out the back door. Also there's the issue of a giant wall of easily broken glass standing between them and the inside of my house.

Sliding security gates are used extensively in ghetto areas with pretty good success, so I'm not sure why you couldn't use one for a house.

Because those are affixed to bricks, concrete and wall studs, not gypsum and chinese particle board

I could easily affix it to the ground if you look them up, otherwise you'd get the same mounting point for any storm door regardless.

I'd say try it, even if it's somewhat flimsy it should be enough to discourage the local crackhead

They'll just go through a window, mate. Unless you reinforce every opening in your home with steel, then that kind of reasoning isn't so solid.

I just don't want Kyle to throw a rock or brick through the glass and get to my dog, or force it open by hand when I'm not home. Just another layer of security, I always hated glass.

Jamal could drive a 2008 Nissan Altima through the wall of the house too.

The one in that picture isn't doing shit for security, it's just a flimsy accordion structure supported only at the sides. You could probably pull that down with your bare hands. It's probably intended more for a traffic control measure while the door is open, making sure idiots don't wander into the warehouse and get themselves hurt.

>>2932028
THIS is what you need if you actually want a decent amount of security. Vertical bars riding in a track at the top & bottom, attached to the accordion structure which keeps them in place side to side. This would take a significant amount of work to get through.

You can buy these custom made to fit the outside of a sliding glass door in the bug screen track.

You really believe a physical structure, let alone a literal fence, will magically keep people out?
Demolishing entire buildings is a quick and easy process. I don't think you can win this.
Either they will not care about being conspicious, in which case they'll smash your door just like they'll break your fence or 800 $ door. Or they will care in which way they wont smash your door anyways.

Just keep your doors unlocked bro either they won't break in at all or will use ammonium nitrate fuel oil and a rented uhaul to create a crater in your wall. There are no in-betweens with criminals. They will either break your windows, doors, and cut through your walls/roof/crawlspace or won't touch you at all.

The idea they'd find an easier target is moot, it'd never happen.

Kek, you're not pulling that shit down with your hands even if it was made out of aluminum. They all can be easily defeated by a cordless reciprocating saw/grinder. You might as well get the cheapest shit. Enough to keep Jamal from just throwing a rock through the glass.

I unironically leave my front door u locked every day. True, if I ever would go on holidays I would probably lock it. It must be as terrible as the videos suggest to live in the USA.

I had a similar one for my gate before I moved that my 16 year old nephew would climb over every day. It also kept a 90lb dog in every day as well. They're pretty sturdy, I'd argue that they're beefier than the 14 gauge expanded metal commonly used for window screens for high winds out here.

Well I did it, both sides deep into studs using large torx screws.
