Did you all ever try out Arduino? Would you recommend it? Is there a cheaper Raspberry Pi, I'm new to tinkering, and would love any resources, I've been interested in it for lots, thanks!

Is it ever worth it to replace a battery on an old iPhone?

49$ from apple
/csg/ probably has good third party batteries(apparently less than 10$)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_SE_(2nd_generation) get this if you're doing official, if diy, https://bbpcrepair.com/demystifying-iphone-battery-replacement-how-and-where-to-get-it-done-right/

isnt this basically /ohm/ and /mcg/ or the weekend project thread, or a mix half the board honestly?
i am really not against it, just feels redundant, the whole board is about that, desu

Based and Lainpilled. While there’s room for a general like this, as it crosses over significantly with other generals here you should probably link to /ohm/, /mcg/, and /3dp/ in the OP. /mcg/ is dead enough without its traffic getting split.

I can see a purpose for a thread about broad learning direction and the big picture behind techy projects, leaving the discussion of the finer minutia to any extant generals. Whether it will be sufficiently busy is another matter, lord knows I build a lot less projects than I start. Though “tinkering” kinda implies the opposite, the aforementioned generals are more full of tinkering than of completed projects. If your project is big enough to be out of place in the generals, you just give it a thread of its own.

I can also see this becoming a /g/ themed diy thread (call it /psi/ or whatever, maybe lainchan already does that) based around non-bare-metal programming and software configuring and hardware selection. Custom media servers, scripts that generate HPGL for your diy plotter, phone degoogling, or PC building. All of those already have a relatively mature space on /g/, but /g/ is a cesspool.

I can’t speak much on Raspberry Pi and its equals, but Arduino is a great prototyping board, and very user friendly. You can tackle pretty much any beginner embedded system project with it, as long as real-time performance is not critical.
If you’re on Linux, I’d recommend skipping the Arduino IDE and using PlatformIO with a text editor of your choice instead.

Oh and check out the book “Practical Arduino” by Oxer and Blemings
It’s fairly schematic oriented, and tells you what components you need for the vast majority of beginner projects. I found it helpful as a starting point. But plenty of stuff online too
