I'm ordering some Temu stuff for my ancient corded 1980s drill and need to spend like $10 bucks more to get free shipping.

Got any suggestions for useful drill bits or attachments?

I already have a set of metal and plastic brushes for cleaning purposes. Very happy with it and make quick work of algae growing on the balcony flooring.

>drill to angle grinder
Start by removing that, drill goes maybe 2000RPM, angle grinder 10-13k.
>step drill bits in multiple sizes
>square tap to hex adapters
>hex to 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 inch adapters
>tap set if you don't have at least two
>screw extractors
>large set of long hex and security bits (may be cheaper locally than on temu)

Angle grinders scare me. I'd rather spend 10x longer to do the work the few times I need a grinding disk

Thanks for the other suggestions

Get an angle grinder with adjustable speed and soft start, you can get cheapo LIDL ones for like $20. You can get used to it at lower speeds, but there's no substitute for a proper angle grinder.

buy a face shield, leave guard on and never force a cutoff disc

I'm a fan of silicone carbide stripping discs. They tear through paint and rust and don't throw tiny metal wires everywhere. You can use them at any angle too unlike a flap disc.

I always force cut off discs

Nothing to be scared of using 6 inch angle grinders and smaller. People get injured because the dumbasses like to take the guard off and not wear their PPE. In the 10 years I've been using and abusing my 6 incher, I've never had a disc of any kind snap violently where it threw shit directly at me.

You only really need a bit set, a drill index, and a couple of hole saws and arbor.

Buy multiples of what you actually need. The first one will undoubtedly break because you are buying shit products.

get one with holes for the handle (left right and top), variable speed, and the switch at the end of the grinder
pic rel
they feel a hell of a lot studier in your hand than the ones with side switch, and you can comfortably grind/polish/carve
also, don't be a pussy
the only disks that can remove fingers are the ones with teeth, STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THEM
the steel cutting disks might explode if you use them like a retard, but if you wear glasses who cares

Glasses don't protect the face, just the eyes. I wear a comfy Jackson style face shield instead which clears prescription glasses and ventilates well. I use a tinted face shield for gas welding and cutting.

Much love for my Makita angle grinders. They've made those a very long time. I've a 6" corded and 4-1/2" cordless with a 6" guard so I can use 6" cutting discs for the faster edge speed and depth.

6" work great because they use 6" cutting discs while being able to run all smaller diameter options. My welding instructor was a pipeliner and boiler welder (many welders teach at local cc's when taking time off the road) who showed me why he liked them and I've run them ever since. 6" disc edge speed and depth of cut is much better than 4-1/4"
