I need a new set drill + impact driver.
Should I go with DeWalt or Makita?

Milwaukee or DeWalt*

Makita cordless sucks for many reasons, mostly poor battery compatibility and planning compared to other brands.

nipkita fucked me on warrantying a faulty sawzall blade chuck on in 1996 on a saw id just bought brand new less than a month before. so ill never give them another cent
i bought a dudwalt flagship drill/impact kit off the shelf at lowes at full rape price summer of 2020 and it was dated 2017. one of the batteries took a shit within 2 months and they refused warranty dur to age. then the drill chuck started seizing and promptly locked up which they also wouldnt warranty due to age. so i threw al that yellow shit out and vowed never to give them another cent
so im team prolapse rose red now and happy as a clam

Makita all the way, the red and yellow shit don't last. There's a reason they don't sell you individual components so you can fix them yourself. Makita on the other hand knows its shit is durable and thus isn't trying to fuck you over into buying a whole new tool when you just need to replace a part. This is also the reason they take their sweet ass time releasing new models. Last but not least I guarantee you 9/10 when a company is the one paying for the tools they will buy Makita because their shit can take a beating; the Home Depot rent tools are mostly Makita, that should tell you all you need to know about their longevity.

Makita has slightly better battery compatibility across the market, lots of aftermarket tools that take Makita 18V. Also you are on a weeb imageboard, so you better buy Japanese tools, even if they suck.

You will never get a definitive answer to this "which brand should I get" question on this board.

If you're not in a trade where you're using this thing every day for work, then just get which ever of the "major" brands you can find the best deal for. For general use they're all fine until you get into the cheap shit.

Not that anon, but a chisel behind the washer will get a bend started and then just hammer it over. Use a nice piece of square stock as a punch to make it nice and crisp at the bend.

If you're a weekend warrior just get that blue shit at harbor freight. Jercules or whatever it's called. Puts up numbers w/ the big boys, and they will reliably honor their 5yr warranty where other brands will fight you irl to try and jew out of it. Life hack my neighbor taught me: write down the year and month your warranty expires, go in one month before it's up and tell them it stopped working, get a new one off the shelf. It's considered the same purchase so you don't get a new 5yr warranty with it, but you get a brand new tool after 4.9 years of use.

Honestly wish I had just bought that shit in the first place instead of starting with kobalt, then jumping to makita during a good father's day sale.

Buddy you're gonna have a bad time. I just had Red Ryobi deny me a claim on my Quik Lok that died on me 24 months into the 3 year warranty. So then on top of being rat fucked out of a $200 power head, I now have hundreds of dollars of attachments that are now useless. And then on top of all that, I am out around a thousand dollars on all new tools to replace the power head + attachments. (Of a new brand, I'm totally swearing off Red Ryobi now)

Oh and, the reason for warranty denial?

Dunno! Their website says 'failed download' when I try to download their report and when I called the sheeboon on the phone had no idea either. She gave me an email to follow up with and they never bothered to respond.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Milwaukee

Milshit makes trash outdoor power equipment, the only good thing they have that stands out from the rest is their 12v lineup. Their weed eater power head in particular had an overheating issue, they've supposedly fixed it in their newest model. I've also heard of problems with the inner drive shaft corroding and snapping on their multi attachment system. These two things are what made me go with the Makita 36v string trimmer. Although their 48v line seems like an overpriced meme, apparently you can swap out the battery cells on the 18v packs to 21700s and get near identical juice as the 48v packs which use them same cells. This is what I plan to do in the future once my batteries inevitably start to die.
