It's important to make a distinction between boomer rock and post-cobain rock.
Boomer rock is about making music, recording it, maybe with drugs and THEN having sex and taking more drugs.
Post-cobain rock is about making a perfect myth for the tabloids, to put yourself in a glossy magazine whilst simultaneously being above it, or, to have 60m tiktok fans whilst being unreachable, it's about making your suicide as self-insertable as humanly possible, to appeal to the youth who are too vain even for suicide but like the idea. It's about dressing up as if you are depressed, but not producing anything in that depressive period which requires a sense of effort. That guy, Lil Peep, he's post-Cobain. Rock music doesn't mean (1) thing anymore, it's Theseus' ship.
That's Post-Cobain, say, "I am for gay rights", you play guitar music, which is incidental at this point, and the crowd doesn't cheer for your music, they cheer for your politics. Bruce Springsteen makes millions every year in concert because he realised that becoming post-Cobain makes more money.
If someone post-Cobain had 130 groupie whores waiting in line, it wouldn't be seen as manipulative because he's for gay rights. That's where it's at now.
