/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - >TRUMAN EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

If the boots are dark enough denim is fine, though you'll mostly want to dress them up with chinos or maybe gurkha pants if you're feeling a bit adventurous

Consider this payment for good advice, anons! One of the Chinese ladies I've been talking up. I thought she was a catfish based on her polished photos (good makeup skills, sometimes beauty filter on) but then she started sending me unique photos of mundane crap around her house out of the blue. Then the unedited photos of herself. Sometimes I get "behind the scenes" pictures like this one or a photo of all the clothing she was to wear for the day. All because I'm a "warm man" that knows a bit of poetry and opened up with some flowery idioms in her dms.

Funny, maybe buying those chink made Grant Stone boots was destiny or some shit

They expectedly dipped in quality under LVMH's ownership, but they're back on the right track with the current Australian owners. You'll know that they're back for good when the MTO program starts back up.

Otherwise your best bet for wholecut chelseas are Viberg and Carmina, especially MTO.

Go for classic English shoemakers for nice Oxfords anon. Some of them are already in:

>>18458780
>Crockett & Jones
>Edward Green
>Gaziano & Girling

but for shoes I'd also add George Cleverley. Skip John Lobb 1849 if you want RTW, because they don't do it.

There are also brands like Tricker's, Cheaney, Church's, Grenson, Loake, Barker, and so on, but unless you're going bespoke with them, they're not going to be the best that you can get.

Bick4 is fine, but really doesn't penetrate that well. It gets the job done and is hard to fuck up, so I used it early on.
VSC is the best all-around.
Renovateur is even better at conditioning but I just use it on my dress shoes because of how expensive it is.
I used the Ashland Tanner's Blend recently because it came as a freebie with my GS Diesels and it seems to perform similarly to VSC, but I can't justify the premium

The blind eyelets Tricker's look nicer than your current pair, but that's likely because your pair could do with some care. I can see that your shoe trees aren't really correct for it either and aren't doing any work in getting creases out.

I think generally derbies look better when not in black calf, since derbies are already a casual shoe, whereas black calf is typically seen in formal shoes. Mixing the two means that you can't really beat up or wear in derbies as much as you'd like. Your pair in its current unloved state would look much nicer in a different leather.

Yeah, that's a picture from the ebay listing I bought them from. I've cleaned them up and put real shoe trees in them, but they're at the cobbler right now getting the heels reglued. I'll post a picture of my own after I get them back. They're 25-30 years old but didn't seem to have been worn often. The soles have almost no wear. I also only paid $45 + shipping for them

I had this when I was still new to boots and unsure of my sizing. After several months of almost daily wear I gave up and decided to finally measure my feet properly with a Brannock device. Discovered that I was wearing a boot a full size too small. Got rid of it, sized up, and the comfort and support improvement was immediate. Years later I have never experienced such horrendous pain again. Much better to discover this earlier rather than later when your collection is larger.

Guys, I lost 40 lbs and my shit is fucking loose now (inb4 "lost 40 lbs? go find it!)
Recommend me some good breathable shirts with some UV protection and new pants. I don't care if I have to use suspenders. I was looking at stuff like Helikon Tex and MAYBE lightweight wool button down shirts? I like to dress business casual enough to blend into office then immediately go to the streams or lakes without having to change. Currently my favorite shirt is a Beretta field shirt that is long discontinued. Helikon Tex seems nice.
As for pants, I was thinking chinos or similar. Something to pair with the brass boots I have.

It works just fine with smart casual fits that have jeans or chinos too. It's why even brogues and derbies have that sole type.

Completely up to you and what you feel comfortable wearing of course. If the noise is a dealbreaker for you then no point forcing yourself to wear shoes that make them.

The eton sole is much more soft than dainite. Having pairs with both, the eton is also quieter by a large margin. The softness also helps with grip in the rain compared to dainite, but I do expect it to wear down faster.

My problem with chinkshit is that they're often made for a client company that pretends that the product isn't chinkshit and charges 10x what they paid the manufacturer. GS is no different.

GS never pretended that their product isn't Made in China. It's on all their marketing and the boots themselves.
At best they can be accused of marketing their product as being Made in China Premium Ethically Madeโ„ข Edition.
Whatever the case may be, the quality is generally conceded to be pretty good, even on their seconds.

GS chink made is of actual good quality. The source of their labor may be captured Uygher children doing the fine stitching work, but that doesn't detract from the fact the boots are well made and of good leather. I love my Brass Boots in Crimson Kudu and the "Made in Xiamen Island" is proudly placed on the inner side of the boot.

You're short of luck then, most quality options start at $300 these days, it would have been a bit different a few years ago. Only other non-chunky (i.e. not Red Wing) option I can think of are Parkhurst Factory Seconds with a promo code - and even then, sizes and colorways tend to be limited.

the reason vince hates truman boots is his market share isn't growing. he's not growing the brand and getting new customers, but his boots are getting more and more expensive for reason mostly out of his control, which would prevent any new customers from buying his brand
and of those customers he does have, it's the reddit types that see one single stitch that isn't perfect and they return the boots and demand an exchange and make posts on reddit about how band the QC on their pair was. he hates those people but those are who buys his boots

the wax isn't going to penetrate as deep, so areas that flex will "push out" the wax with use so reapplication is necessary. as for actual water resistance i can't say for certain because i don't have a/b testing but my pair of vibergs that i waxed with obernauf LP is pretty water resistant. you absolutely will need a hair dryer/heatgun and nitrile gloves
