/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - >TRUMAN EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

Consider this payment for good advice, anons! One of the Chinese ladies I've been talking up. I thought she was a catfish based on her polished photos (good makeup skills, sometimes beauty filter on) but then she started sending me unique photos of mundane crap around her house out of the blue. Then the unedited photos of herself. Sometimes I get "behind the scenes" pictures like this one or a photo of all the clothing she was to wear for the day. VSC is the best all-around.
Renovateur is even better at conditioning but I just use it on my dress shoes because of how expensive it is.
I used the Ashland Tanner's Blend recently because it came as a freebie with my GS Diesels and it seems to perform similarly to VSC, but I can't justify the premium

The blind eyelets Tricker's look nicer than your current pair, but that's likely because your pair could do with some care. I can see that your shoe trees aren't really correct for it either and aren't doing any work in getting creases out.

I think generally derbies look better when not in black calf, since derbies are already a casual shoe, whereas black calf is typically seen in formal shoes. Mixing the two means that you can't really beat up or wear in derbies as much as you'd like. Your pair in its current unloved state would look much nicer in a different leather.

I like to dress business casual enough to blend into office then immediately go to the streams or lakes without having to change. GS chink made is of actual good quality. The source of their labor may be captured Uygher children doing the fine stitching work, but that doesn't detract from the fact the boots are well made and of good leather. I love my Brass Boots in Crimson Kudu and the "Made in Xiamen Island" is proudly placed on the inner side of the boot.

Contact the manufacturer first before ordering, moron. Send them your specs, send in photos of your foot on a brannock, an outline sketch of your feet even. That's what I did with Grant Stone and got the best fitting size recommended to me and they fit quite well out of the box.

You're short of luck then, most quality options start at $300 these days, it would have been a bit different a few years ago. Only other non-chunky (i.e. not Red Wing) option I can think of are Parkhurst Factory Seconds with a promo code - and even then, sizes and colorways tend to be limited.

the wax isn't going to penetrate as deep, so areas that flex will "push out" the wax with use so reapplication is necessary. as for actual water resistance i can't say for certain because i don't have a/b testing but my pair of vibergs that i waxed with obernauf LP is pretty water resistant. you absolutely will need a hair dryer/heatgun and nitrile gloves
