thoughts on eros energy?
>>18464729
>>18464745Basically, probably going to stay a pillar Eros release for some time, but they completely scuffed the release and therefore lost the opportunity to build hype from the general public so it’s never going to be a huge seller.
>>18464739It's okay, but it's a big departure from the rest of the Eros line and a lot of people who are accustomed to that don't initially love it. Like
>>18464745 mentioned it obviously takes after Aventus but I think it smells more akin to a candied Cedrat Boise, especially once it dries. A customer told me they suspect once the price sinks and you can get testers of it for cheap it'll probably be a hidden gem for some people.
>>18464751good, I don't wanna cross paths with another giant orange when Im wearing it

>>18464774It doesn’t matter, it’s an AdP and from the blue line at that, meaning nothing you do is going to extend the longevity past… 4? hours, tops.
Still, if you’re actually going out somewhere I wouldn’t go less than 10 if you want to smell it after you arrive at your destination.

>>18464812can't imagine wearing this in high heat
it's a weird and ballsy fragrance in general to have as a signature. it's good, but unhinged.
>>18464773I'm a Tauer shill but you just got to try it, don't blind buy. It doesn't work for me but I see why people love it.
>>18464773it's a 3/10 cumin frag. you'll smell like lentil curry served on a cardboard plate in some side street in bangalore
>>18464818>t. bullied noselet
>>18464788>Imaginary AuthorsI think this is a scam brand but the waffle cone is kind of accurate but I can't imagine anybody wanting to smell like that. The quality is just trash.
>L'OccitaneWhich one do you have?
>>18464819seethe harder hype victim
Very interesting concept, though I'm not sure I like it enough to justify the purchase of an entire bottle. The opening is a little abrasive, you get hit by a large dose of coffee/burnt sugar, liquorice and some booziness, after which (past the 15-minute mark) it settles down into a subtle citrusy muskiness/silkiness, with spicy and ambery accords. In the drydown the coffee note is still there, subdued and faintly sweet, and there are some woods surrounding it as well. Moderate longevity with soft to medium projection.
>>18464796Second Rien (and Intense Incense) and Sauvage Elixir (
>>18464797) but also Bois Imperial, Tonnerre, Hyde, Tyrannosaurus Rex, A Whiff of Waffle Cone, Etruscan Water… I think that covers most.
I’ve had Mousse Illuminee really hang in the air. Ganymede has the same effect as well.
>>18464808Very good. I use it as an alternative to citruses in extremely high heat and its performance is usually better anyway. Had two different people tell me (unprompted) how “it just smells like clean skin”.
It’s completely linear and fairly safe/boring, but that’s basically what I need it to be. I’d agree with
>>18464811 and give it an 8/10, which is about as good as you can get with high heat viable frags. Could see other people rating it 7/10, but anything below that they’re just rating it lower due to differences in personal taste.
>>18464812>>18464814 Is correct. It’s not versatile enough to be an everyday frag. That doesn’t mean you can’t do it, but there are going to be a lot of days in the summer where anyone near you will be disgusted by you.
>>18464818>I don’t like it so it’s bad. Ignore the contrarian. You don’t have to like LADDM, but anything that draws that much attention is worth sampling and finding out for yourself.
>>18464821To each their own. They’re like any other niche brand in my opinion, some really great scents, a lot of mid filler, and a couple real shitters.
I’m not opposed to sweet gourmands like a lot of people here, and anytime I wear it it’s hilarious how many people nearby will say out of the blue “Do you smell pancakes/syrup/breakfast food?” and absolutely love the scent.
>L'Occitane Which one do you have?Eau des Baux. It’s my only scent that I really save for special occasions, mostly the occasional interview or formal event.

How do professional perfumers deal with olfactory fatigue? I can't believe nobody has solved this weird problem to this day.
>>18464973Completely bullshitting here but, work in smaller volumes (their sense of smell is more acute, so they don’t need massive wafts to get all the minute details) and just take breaks to recover from the fatigue. It’s their job, they have the time.
>>18464977Sounds terribly inefficient to me: you pay the guy a full-time wage, and get an output equal to just an hour or two of work given nobody really works 8 hours a day anyway. And meanwhile we have all those mumbo-jumbo magical drugs that affect the processes we don't even fully understand, like many psycho drugs, but nothing to sniff and get the receptors to work again. Strange.
>>18464978Unless they are in-house they a salespeople who hawk their formulas to different houses until they find a buyer. They are not paid for their time but for their product. If they are successful enough they probably have helpers so they can focus on smelling.

>>18464808My thoughts:
Milk + zest + wood.
Somewhat aquatic.
Not actually sweet, in fact almost a bit bitter. And a bit powdery. And floral facets.
Clean and uplifting. Perfect dumb reach scent.
It feels utterly intimate, truly a personal smell.
Smells rather clean, but unlike soap, but it's clearly high quality and it's not a fastidious smell, but rather pleasant and comforting.
Totally unisex, 4-season, exclusively day-time.
Milk gives it a nice pasty feel.
Reminds me a bit of almond milk + citrusy facets, but very light overall.
Smells very simple at first sniff, but the more you smell it the more you realize its complexity.
Bright and refreshing.
A happy scent.
Clean steamy skin.
I don’t pick up vinyl, plastic, or metallic from this. There is a slight metallic note of anything, but it’s smooth and largely overpowered by a slightly bitter, creamy, cleanness with a touch of florals. Dries down to a soft musk.
Don't expect anything mind-blowing, as I said its complexity is subtle, but if you want a neutral dumb-reach scent for summer I recommend it, it just works

How does Bois Imperial compare with the Kenzo Homme line, particularly the EdP?
Currently on sale for £65
>>18465196None of that is true, the only thing reshaping product lines is the quest to make an additional $0.0001 per botttle.
>>18465274might test it as some point
how dirty and animalic is it?
>>18465279correct
>>18465280>how dirty and animalic is it?To me, not very much as to make me want to gag, it's very well blended and resinously aromatic, although the beginning might be a little off-putting to some (which usually lasts no more than a few minutes).
>>18465278Bois Imperial mogs Kenzo Homme EDP
>>18465283>Bois Imperial mogs Kenzo Homme EDPOK, but not really what I meant.
I want to know how similar it is.
In other words, if I love the Kenzo, is it worth blind buying the Bois Imperial?
>>18465263Just filter Indian IP's and you'll never have to read the name again.
>>18465278>>18465285The two scents share some similarities, but they are in no way redundant to own both, if that's what you're asking. BE is metallic and spicy fresh, while Kenzo EDP is marine/salty with a hint of fair amount of leather. I have both and BE is more down my alley, although Kenzo EDP is definitely an unique aquatic frag that's worth the shot.
>>18465278>>18465285The two scents share some similarities, but they are in no way redundant to own both, if that's what you're asking. BI is metallic and spicy fresh, while Kenzo EDP is marine/salty with a hint of fair amount of leather. >>18465293>BI is metallic and spicy freshInteresting, so is it anything like Platinum Egoiste in that regard?
I own both PE and Kenzo Homme EdP, great strong summer frags imo, but I want some more variety for the season.
>>18465294>Interesting, so is it anything like Platinum Egoiste in that regard?I wouldn't say so, Platinum Egoiste is more barbershop-y and an old school type of classic, while BI is more metallic and "wet" (if that makes any sense), it also has more subtle sweetness than Platinum Egoiste (if the latter has any sweetness at all), but the two frags are conceptually way different to even start comparing them. I would describe the "wet" metallic base of BI as abstract and modern/futuristic.
Scent of the night: Drakkar Noir
>>18465294i'll also add that the metallic aspect isn't really metallic-metallic (that'd be ganymede) but comes from the combination of pepper/basil/rapefruit. if you want variety, BI isn't the best choice, thoughbeit i prefer it over kenzo.

BI doesn't have the leather and marine notes, it focuses on a transparent woodiness. I find it difficult to describe, probably because it's all a synthetic and abstract cocktail of woody aromachemicals. but not in a bad way, I quite like it

Independent perfumers? Perhaps a couple.
Humorously enough, see
>>18465773I made a post about this a thread or two ago but Pineward has a small note in his “About” section that his fragrances are not IFRA compliant, he doesn’t use it as an advertisement gimmick, just a statement, and he doesn’t ship intentionally (anymore) so I think it’s legit. Can’t say for certain that any of his fragrances are oakmoss bombs, but its present enough to be noncompliant.
>>18465773Looking forward to hearing your thoughts Anon. Remember to be mindful of the skin stain, they’re not all going to turn you neon green, but if the juice is anything less than crystal clear, stick to spraying skin, no clothes.
>>18465783If there are no houses buying oakmoss to use in their perfumes, then I'd guess producing it is not profitable, and so it shouldn't be possible to get it. No?

Got a bottle of DK Men. I was quite surprised by how modern the smell is because of the sweet woody tobacco. I don't get all the praise I read about the scent, it's not bad but it doesn't seem unique or exceptional. It starts briefly with a sweet citrus note before you get to the fancy tobacco and suede. It settles into a very soft sandalwood. I'm not a fan of sweet scents but this is the limit of how much I can tolerate, the only thing that saves it is that it's a cologne. If it was an EDT, or worse an EDP, it would be too much for me. As it is it's a real lady killer fragrance, something you can wear at night, on a date, that the ladies can't resist. Not usually what I go for but would wear on occasion. The bottle is 10/10, one of the best ever. Pure form over function.
>>18466574Also got a bottle of Ted Lapidus Pour Home. It starts with a blast of aldehydes and citrus, then you get a bit of leather with spices and a green background. It settles into a mossy scent, all very clean, soapy, cleaner, like stepping out of a shower into a freshly cleaned bathroom. The end is similar to Armani Eau Pour Homme with the oakmoss and spices, yet the Lapidus is soapier and smoother, while the Armani has more spices and florals. They start quite different.

From now on, I'll spray 2-3 times on the back and 1-2 on the front of my shirt. Pretty cool right?
Dior Sauvage body spray has 1 minute of spraying time.
>>18466660Pretty cool, just remember that fragrances last longer on clothes so you don't need to spray as much. If you have sensitive skin don't spray your chest or neck. Stick to the inside of wrists, elbows, and clavicles.
Fragrances can smell different on skin and on clothes however.
On skin they combine with body heat so the evaporation effects the fragrance, plus they combine with your own body chemistry.
On clothes the fragrance can last longer, but some elements of the fragrance might not be as pronounced.
This is somewhat generalising, but I find the opening and drydown are longer lasting on clothes, while the heart or the core of a fragrance is more influenced by the individual's skin, body temp, chemistry etc.

Dior Sauvage
The opening of Dior Sauvage greets you with a wash of bergamot so vague it fades almost as quickly as it appears—a polite yet uninspired overture that lacks any memorable spark. As it evolves, a robust flicker of pepper emerges, intertwined with a softer echo of citrus. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill pepper note, but a layered, almost tactile peppercorn accord that hints at green stalks and spicy warmth. Yet, for all its rugged masculinity, it never quite finds its moment of sweetness or refinement. There is no gilded elegance here—only a straightforward, uncompromising boldness that, while pleasant in passing, ultimately leaves little desire to revisit.
Dior Sauvage Elixir
At first spray, Sauvage Elixir assaults the senses with an unusually sharp union of pungent pepper and licorice—an abrasive duet that, frankly, repels rather than intrigues. I found myself recoiling from its acrid intensity.
Yet, as the scent settles and time weaves its alchemy, a dramatic transformation unfolds. The once-harsh top notes soften, giving way to a rich, dry warmth that feels unapologetically masculine—an “alpha” male in olfactory form. Subtle threads of sweetness begin to seep through, delicate but undeniable, lending a surprising lift without diluting its raw strength. In its perfected drydown, Sauvage Elixir recalls the noble spirit of the original Sauvage, yet surpasses it with deeper complexity and a more sophisticated finish—no longer a jarring intrusion, but a masterful crescendo of spice and warmth.
Sauvage: 3/10

I don't know any indians, but are they really using this?
while nowhere as aldehydic (don't think it has any), it reminds me of chanel no. 5, or some other old women's frag.
It is just full of powdery flowers. The citrus opening is too short, though was way more aggressive than I expected. The drydown is kind of 'nice', but the only "flower heavy" comparison I could make is to chanel antaeus, but that one definitely feels masculine compared to this.
I have no experience with florals, so maybe that's why I think of this as what a 1800 prostitute's place would smell, to hide all the other animalistic scents around her.

>People still can't smell it
>Got compliments from cute girls in the past
>Remembered the girls were either hugging me or right on top of me
I'm about to start fucking doing 20 sprays a day on this shit because I'm sick of people not being able to smell it. I understand when you have so many scents in the air and different colognes mixing with each other it probably messes it up, but goddamn it I want some compliments. I just can't believe it's COMMON to spray like 20-25 times EVERYDAY of designer cologne. You know how quickly you'll go through a bottle at that rate? Fucking $150-$200 cologne bottles? Holy fuck. You might as well get a cheap powerful cologne and bathe in that instead. Hell, you could get fucking AXE bodyspray and go PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for like 90 seconds every day at that point.
Fucking hell. Anyway, I just wanted to ask if it's common/okay to do 20+ sprays a day? I think it's fucking stupid that I need to do that much to even have a chance of someone smelling it, guess Bleu De Chanel isn't very powerful from a distance. When I visit my parents I know my mom can smell the cologne from at least a good 1-2 feet away, so maybe it's just my environment I'm in, like a stronger cologne will overpower the other. I'm assuming D&G and Versace Eros are stronger than Bleu De Chanel, which would make sense. I personally think I'm too old to wear Versace Eros, was thinking of buying it, but I'm 32 years old. It seems to be labeled a "clubbing cologne" or something popular with 18–25-year-olds at best.
>>18466981I think he does make fun of Turin for being treated like a fountain of undisputable wisdom while he's really just some guy with connections who writes reviews consisting of one sentence and a random score

>>18467015I guess I kind of get what you're saying, like is the compliment geniune or only beecause people didn't have a choice but to comment on it. I hate to admit I'm jealous, but why wear cologne if people can't smell it? D&G and Versace just seem to be very powerful compared to Bleu De Chanel, like if 10-12 sprays of Bleu De Chanel can't be smelt easily then it must not be very powerful.
I know the girls don't hate the D&G and Versace scents because I've heard them compliment the guys at my job and say things like "Oh I like how that smells!" and "Oh, I like that." but I'm not getting shit for compliments. I even had one girl tell me she couldn't smell my cologne at all. I've just come to the conclusion that it's not as powerful as other colognes, granted those other guys are doing easily 15-20 sprays every day, and I know that because one of them fucking told me he does like 20 sprays a day. Insanity.
I don't want to give people headaches or wear cologne that smells bad, but I do want to wear powerful cologne that smells good and that people can easily smell. I need to look for something that is strong and still smells good. Versace and D&G seem to do both of those, especially Versace, though I hate to jump on the Versace bandwagon as it seems to be the most popular cologne for younger guys. I don't really want women to think I'm wearing an "immature" or younger cologne to cope or something.
>>18467004You’re right it’s not powerful, and it’s just a pleasant, unremarkable scent. This is my retarded take on ‘blue’ fragrances - hoes probably think it’s the smell of hair gel or something. It’s like when girls wear lipsticky iris smelling perfume, it’s a nice girly smell but you’re not gonna notice it to the point you compliment her on the faint smell of literally any girl that applies makeup. You send off the signals to whoever’s smelling your bdc as ‘okay, that’s a clean man’ but not ‘oh somebody smells like a flower/lumberjack/dessert/honeyed cigar etc’, something interesting enough for them to point out their pleasure of it.
Or you just need to be more approachable/inviting and drink more water for the scent to project better on skin.

Bought this due to reading comparisons w/ Costume National Homme, which is getting harder to find now. While it does share some spicy notes and its sandalwood base with CN Homme, the Ferragamo leans more green/woody and uses spice for complexity rather than getting attention. SOTD: Boss Bottled
all these years later is still 100% works. It basically disappears onto you when you spray it, and you get whisps of thinly woody sweetness. The fragrance basically fucks off and just reminds you and everyone around that you smell good every minute or so. The intense may be more loved, but the original works in more situations (like summer).
Pumpkin and ginger.
A surprisingly interesting fragrance in which you truly perceive both the sweetness of pumpkin and the spicy zest of ginger—a sweet and spicy contrast that evokes mustard without that “jammy” texture. It’s bright and invigorating, like an electric shock that gets you moving; complex like a blend of ripe vegetables and almost “edible” without veering into gourmand territory, irresistibly captivating even though it’s not a perfume I would personally wear. In the background you can detect herbaceous notes of pungent, freshly picked garden spices, which heighten its intensely spicy character; every facet of pumpkin—what you love and what you don’t—is here, in that balance of sweet and savory, of spice and starchiness. In my opinion it doesn’t recall gingerbread because it doesn’t smell like bread: it’s neither gentle nor comforting, it doesn’t invite hugs but rather a slight state of alertness; someone who wore this scent might seem a bit eccentric but undoubtedly interesting to spend time with. It’s a memorable essence, perhaps musky, perhaps ambered or vegetal, rich, complex, and almost annoyingly cheerful—like an exuberant woman passionate about a rustic lifestyle, devoted to all things natural, wearing Crocs and collecting crystals, or like the smell of the pantry where grandma’s preserves and garden vegetables are stored. It certainly isn’t a “clean” fragrance, nor is it relaxing, but it has a bold, original personality that’s easy to appreciate, even though it isn’t “sexy” in the traditional sense: it’s feminine, lively, self-assured, lighthearted, and playful.

Personally I love all the history he gives on stuff and is what keeps me coming back, but the other thing is he does a really good job of viewing things from multiple perspectives, acknowledging things like how most mainstream guys aren’t into florals, other similar things that I’m currently blanking on.
My complaint for him would be he does get a bit tangent-y, like completely unrelated to frags, but he gets back on track eventually. Also also, while I think he has a great nose for notes, I think it’s a double edged sword and makes him over estimate the longevity of frags for most common noses. In other words, he claims that so many things last for 8+ hours when most people are realisticly only gonna get 5-6 tops.
>>18467069Interesting, I’m not sure if that’s new, or if possibly I had just completely forgotten about it. Regardless I think it has always been a random mix of 20 samples from a possible ~25 options. If you count the current list is actually 21 frags, and Marquis de Sade isn’t listed which I know what in my kit. Prob phase some out as they release new stuff.
Thoughts on Bvlgari Man Rain Essence?
>Gentleman EdP Boisée
I like this. Is anything else in the current Gentleman lineup worth a try? Note: I already have the 70s original, and I tried but didn't particularly enjoy the Reserve Privée.
