Honestly you're probably better off looking at vintage stuff because all muh microbrand divers are at 38+mm
You can probably find some old Certinas or Tissot Seastars for not that much. Or if you have a bit to spend, you could get lucky on an Eterna, some older models were smaller before they got chink'd and stopped making the Kontiki in any size but XXL.

This is also wrong. "oh you can get x shirt for 10x cheaper" will other people notice? No, but you will. You'll notice the seams, the density of the fabric, the pilling, how it wears... Etc etc.

If all you care about is the look or the logo, then that's your prerogative and that's fine, my boss likes some of his reps more then his gens, but if you pretend is the same thing you're wrong

Watch looks nice, have you tried messing with the strap so that there isn't that much hanging off at the top? It detracts from the look and makes it too bulky, imo. Though some people like that functional esthetic, so it's up to you.
Also, wear it higher up, I suggest putting it on/above the little wrist bone, not so far down at the hand. It helps avoid hitting the crown and just plainly looks better.
And finally, when taking pics of your watch - actually get the camera to focus on it :D

It will last far longer for the money, and will look far far better the entire time. Cheap shit rusts, bends, chips. Good shit doesn't. So it's smarter to buy good shit.

Companies often misrepresent the meaning of full-grain to make it sound like a premium grading or descriptor. This means they're using it in their marketing in a misleading way, using it as a marketing term.
There really isn't any way to make this any more clear. You're either being purposefully obtuse, or you're just genuinely slow.

You will notice, if you care to read through all this conversation again, which I don't blame you for not doing - but rest assured it is true, I have not once said that Full Grain is an indicator of quality. It is an indicator of which part of the hide it is from. But a marketing term, it is not. Sure, it can be used in a shady description, but if it doesn't include the top grain they are just lying - not marketing.

Anon, I suggest you take a seat on the toilet before reading this next sentence, for what I am about to tell you may just shock you to your very core and cause you to shit your $80 Supima cotton pants.

A term can be both a real categorization with real meaning, AND a marketing term at the same time.

In fact, most of the time this is the case, since in most 1st world countries there are indeed corporate laws in place regulating the use of common marketing terms and what they actually legally mean.

I've had "luxury" brands. The sub $500 market is where the fun and value is imo.
It's not fun having a watch your constantly worried someone's going to try and mug you for or your afraid of scratching. Even a Sub $2000 watch at least your not thinking "shit is this an insurance claim" you think well maybe I'll get that repaired when I get it serviced. Also what nobody tells you about your $5000 watch your going to end up paying $100s per service and that's before parts.

I have a question for anyone who owns and/or has owned gold replica watches, and particularly the higher end reps costing €£$300 and upwards.
How's the gold plating?
I'd like to buy a two tone DJ but I'm afraid the gold plating will get abundantly scratched and come off with everyday use, though this fear comes from my experience with a pair of cheap plated cufflinks and I don't really know whether the same thing should be a concern with a half decent watch as well.
Also, is the plating on the strap generally going to suffer more than that on the crown?

I don't.
I just ask myself how muchwrist time a new watch would get and the answeris typically "not enough to justify a purchase"
I've already burned myself a bunch of times getting cheapo watches that I barely wear after one or two weeks.
So now, every time I see a new shitter or even an adequate watch, I think of how often it would get picked over just grabbing the two or three watches I always wear, and nothing has an edge over them.
It's working so well that I'm gradually building a good budget for an fancy watch, and looking at them I still don't find one I'd realistically pick over my usual rotation.
It's the opposite of a vicious circle : the less I wear my meme-tier shitters, the less I want them, the more money I keep for a proper watch and the less I feel like pulling the trigger on one.

>Basic bitch Casio
For the mondays when I didn't wear a watch in the weekend and feel too lazy to wind and set the autos.
>Vostok Amphibia
By far my most worn watch. I ride bicycles a lot and on trips I go through some paved streets that shake you pretty bad. With the Vostok on, I don't care if an axle breaks, I can get a new one anyway. Not sure if I could still buy parts straight from Meranom anymore but if so then I can do the repair. So it's the watch I can always have on without worrying about anything.
>Seiko Alpinist
I wear it quite a bit, it honestly has one of my all time favourite dial and hands that I've seen (and I have seen some fancy shit) but it tends to "fall up" my wrist and sit awkwardly with the strap I have it on. Happens with some other smaller diameter watches.

Other than that I have these that I don't wear much and taught me a lesson in not buying everything that looks cool :
>Vulcain Cricket from the 50s
I wear it a fair bit but it's too fragile for cycling and it "falls up" much more than the Alpinist too. It's my de-facto alarm clock though.
>Prim Diplomat, likely from the 70s
Got it as a neat antique more than a wearable piece because it's neat to have a cold war era watch that's not one of your typical soviet suspects.
>Bulova Accutron Spaceview
Fragility is also a problem here, and they eat through batteries so most of the time it sits dead in a dry box until I have a good opportunity to wear it.
>Seiko Flightmaster
I really wanted to like this watch but it has the problem of sitting awkwardly on my wrist, and because the lugs are so short it's hard to put it on any bracelet other than its stock metal one, which sucks because lol Seiko bracelets. I barely ever wear it.
>Xeric microbrand shitter

from what I understand, there's not much of a market for them, so you can get the cool vintage ones for cheap. the really old ones are European, but the American ones from around 1900 that say "railroad" on them were the best of that time. they were built to a stronger accuracy because watches going bad out-of-synch were causing train crashes, so that's what "railroad" means. you can get gold ones for around just the value of the gold.
some companies still make them and presumably the modern movements are probably better? although they're not going to put top-of-the-line movements in something they make to sell to dorks with huge model trainsets in their basement or steampunk nerds to flash at a con, which I'm assuming are the only people buying them these days.

It cracked on my nightstand while I was asleep, I didn't drop it or anything I think it's just poor quality (the dome is pretty exaggerated so maybe it was putting excess pressure on it or something)

The question is strange. You're presenting 4 different watches (all Seiko) which are widely different in style. It's like your motivation is just to have a Seiko, without any real accounting of personal attraction or taste. You might as well have posted the entire Seiko website and said "find me a watch."
It just seems stupid and futile as hell, lacking almost entirely in personal autonomy or preference.

Buy a Casio Duro and stop worrying about this shit.

Anonymous No.18493380
I wish watches weren't shit. Right now I'm wearing my custom build from a few years ago, getting tempted to buy my grail watch (a 200 dollar shitter) but the amount of custom work I'm going to have to do to it to get it wearable is absurd.

First it needs proper solid end links and an decent bracelet, which if I'm lucky is 100 bucks and a few hours of sanding. Then it needs a titanium weight reduction mod and AR sapphire, but this is like 20 bucks and a 2 minute job. Then it needs a bezel redesign that might not be possible to convert it from 60 to 120 clicks, and custom bezel insert work because the stock bezel is aluminum that'll get scratched up over a few years. Oh, and I might have to learn how to do case finishing as well, how fun.

>>18493374
They're all good. The older the better, the 70s stuff is the best, 80s is okay, 90s is serviceable. Main issue is the bracelets, which are cheap folded junk and there's no good source for precise measurements so you can find a modern chang bracelet that works better.

IMO $3-6K
after that it's drastically diminishing returns in terms of aesthetics, quality, & design. I definitely see, feel and appreciate the difference between my $100 Tandorio, $500 Seikos, and my Tudor or IWCs. i keep day dreaming about getting a vacheron constantin eventually, but that truly feels like wasting money at that point. even if i felt like burning up that kinda cash, there's better ways.

if you're one of those people that sees no difference between a Kia or a Porsche, then stick to the $100-250 watches.
