- that is the modern detroit jacket. not a j97. completely different jacket.
- the j97 and older detroit jackets had gusseted shoulders tailored into them for extra mobility. there is no reason to oversize your shoulder fit, you will have full unrestricted mobility in a properly fitted detroit jacket even for stuff that requires a high range of motion like swinging a hammer.
- the gusseted shoulder was removed on the modern versions to cut down on costs.
- carhartt dealers used to recommend short guys try on the women's version of the j97 because it's exactly the same but with shorter sleeves and an inch shorter in the body. i know a lot of mexicans who used to or still wear wj097's on the job bc they tend to be short fellows.

its not the same jacket. the carhartt detroit jacket was changed in 2019. the detroit jacket that is relevant for fashion are the ones made between 2000-2019, or older.
