no nothing to do with the jacket being too small. his jacket is actually slightly too big. you can get those same fades (but they look different) on jackets with big wide balloon arms like detroits.
its sleeve length + rarely washing + repetitive motion
most denim jackets are tight enough at the wrist that if you sleeves are too long they just stack on the wrist. the more the sleeve is over-sized the more creases you get. the more creases you get the more the sleeve shortens, then washing also shortens it up more over the jacket's life. this is how it sits perfect on his wrists -- it probably didn't when he bought the jacket.
#1 mistake a lot of people make with raw denim stuff is buying stuff that fits perfectly brand new but not understanding how the fabric changes over time. it shrinks and stretches a lot more than common fabrics.

to be even more specific, you do not need the sleeves to be too long to get those fades on jackets with slimmer sleeves like a levi's type ii/iii but it will give you more of the arm ripples. if the sleeves are sized right they'll be more localized to the elbow and wrist but if the sleeves were originally too long they'll extend up the whole arm like the OP pic.
on jackets with more balloon shaped sleeves like lee and carhartt jackets then you pretty much do need the sleeves to either be too long to get them.

If you put that same outfit on a dude who was a minimum 7/10 with a nice jawline, thick stache and wiry framed body type with abs, it would look good or at the bare minimum it wouldn't look bad or unnatural. I've worn a large amount of the Jap made 2 pack tees. Out of all of them, I think whitesville is the best. Yes, the Real Mccoys 2 pack is super nice, but they actually are like 1.5-2 inches too long after washing, so you'll need to get them hemmed. Whitesville tees have the best, most universal cut with very comfy fabric, and the relative value is pretty much unbeatable for something jap made. If you want something slightly more heavy feeling with a tiny bit more texture, Real Mccoys 2 pack is great.

I cannot stand naked and famous. All their denims are gimmicky and their cuts don’t look as great as any standard vintage 501 repro. Go with the Fullcount 0105 or 1101 in their 13.7 oz denim and thank me later. It’s extremely soft, breathable denim, and their cuts are actually based on vintage 501s which are going to offer more leg room and mobility. If you go with the 0105, it’s considerably wider and the denim has some elasticity to it so I would suggest going with your standard US vanity sizing instead of the recommended +1 size for most jap brands. If you don’t like the Fullcounts, go with TCB 50s (pic related) and call it a day

I've worn both the 634 and 1955. I have an athletic build and prefer the 1955 slightly. The higher rise and slightly larger thighs allows for more mobility and comfort on my part. I like the 634 for what it is, but I have no clue why Iron Heart was so insistent on making the rise LOW. They could easily add another 0.5 inches to the rise and be well within the ball park of an actual 60s repro cut. Beside that, they have some weird insistence on adding weird, completely unnecessary modifications to their cuts. For example, the absurd magnitude of taper on the 1955 below the knee was completely unnecessary. The cut is essentially a legit 1955 cut, but they were like, "lets appeal to all the aging millennials and gen x crowd by making this a 'tapered' cut". It would look a million times better if they reduced the taper a significant amount.

Currently rocking their 0105 in the 13.7 oz this summer. I started my raw denim journey with heavy weight stuff, but after wearing in some Fullcounts, I could say I would not be disappointed at all if strictly wore their jeans and nothing else. The fades are really balanced, the denim is silky smooth, and the cuts are really functional. Absolutely no gimmicks.

I'm excited frens. I wasn't looking for this specific pair, but I have wanted a raw, un-sanforized, natural indigo, straight leg pair of jeans to finish out my denim collection for a year now. I've got this pair coming now and if the one-wash measurements are close they should be an almost perfect for me. I've been working to really try and fade in 2 pairs from Shockoe Atelier and Sugar Cane but they might have to pause for a while.

Western brands have more "technically correct" fits, like the top block actually fit well almost like the 13MWZ. Japan repro cuts seemingly lean more into a "slouched" fit, which is personally what I like more. All that said, IH seriously needs to do something with their cuts so that they actually make sense, or they need to make a completely unadulterated 40s/50s repro cut without any unnecessary bullshit like a super low rise, massive degree of taper, etc...

The 1101 has a relatively slim top block. If you size up on the 1101 to a thigh width that is slightly larger and then just wear a belt, it ends up being better. You get some relaxation or slouch, but it’s not anywhere near the enormity of the 0105’s top block. I wear a 33 in most American brands, a 33 in the 0105, and a 35 in the 1101 for my desired thigh width. I can post a fit pic of the 1101 later if you’re interested.

If you absolutely love the fit of the TCB 50s, the Real Mccoys Lot 001xx is almost the same exact same cut. It’s been in my main rotation the last few months and it’s realistically the best cut I’ve ever worn. The most technically correct fitting top block ever made with a perfect leg width. I measured the dimensions of them and realized they’re basically the same as the size chart Redcast Heritage provides for the TCB 50s. The problem is that Real Mccoys just restocked them this year and increased the price like $110. I bought them last year for $380 which is already really expensive for a pair of repros. All that said, they are allowed to price in such a crazy tier because they are essentially the closest thing you can get to an actual pair of 501s from the 50s. Beside those, I highly recommend Freewheeler’s 1947. SOLID quality control and my second favorite cut ever. The stitching work is the cleanest I’ve ever seen

Here’s my autism rant on the 1101 vs the 0105:
Pic related is the 1101 sized up to a 35. I could do a size 34 for a better fitting waist, but the 1101’s top block is pretty slim for a 1947 inspired cut, so i preferred sizing up for extra leg width to accommodate my slightly larger thighs. Compared to my 0105s in size 33, I prefer how these look. However, there is a slight restriction of mobility in the crotch area. In order for me to elevate my legs without tension in the crotch, I need to pull up the legs of the jeans or pull the waist up to my hips, which is counter to how jeans will naturally rest slouch below my hips. It’s not a crazy amount of restriction, but it’s noticeably more than the 0105. Even though I prefer how the 1101 looks relative to the 0105, 90% I will reach for the 0105s because of how incredibly comfortable and functional they are. Pure unrestricted mobility. This may not be a big dealbreaker for you, but I personally place a huge factor of importance on how mobile a pair of jeans are in the crotch area. If I can’t easily elevate my legs, it drives me nuts.

Fullcount’s philosophy is comfort. The 0105 is based on a pair of 1953 repros, but they intentionally made the cut more wide to provide maximum comfort and mobility This isn’t to say the 1101 isn’t comfortable, you just need to know that it won’t be nearly as comfortable as the 0105, especially if you have athletic thighs like myself. If you’re a slim dude, you should have zero issue with the 1101. I think the ultimate reason to buy a pair of Fullcounts is for comfort. The relatively loose weave denim with Zimbabwean cotton paired with a wide cut is what does that. This is why I reach for my 0105s way more than my 1101, because they are fundamental recipe of Fullcount’s philosophy. I never even really liked how the cut looked, but because they feel incredible, I look past their appearance and instead just enjoy wearing the jeans themselves.

Its why I can't do a lot of slouchy jeans- there isn't enough extra room in the upper thighs to offset the lowered crotch, and I end up getting less mobility, not more. My SC1947 are like that. I did a 33 in the 001xx. I referenced the size charts on their actual website as opposed to other retailers. I think Rivet and Hide is carrying their new restock though. My other jeans are:

The Freenote cut looks a bit more wide which would probably look best since it would likely fit slightly more cropped. Because the RGT jacket looks slim, you’ll need to size up which will increase the length of the jacket. Generally, jackets like that look better when their length is more balanced. If you like the japan-made and/or workwear-oriented stuff, I'd recommend leaning more into actual vintage repro style. You don't need to go full blown coal miner railroad conductor depression era autism mode, but start browsing the catalogs of companies like Real McCoys, Buzz Rickson, Warehouse, and Freewheelers. You can grab vintage pieces from these companies to put together a casual outfit with some elements of modern streetwear fashion. A lot of times I'll search specific pairs of repro jeans on instagram and then browse all the worldwide posts of dudes wearing those jeans or some other piece of interest within the context of a full outfit. A lot of them are very autismo larp, but some of them are fairly well put together and casual/natural looking, especially those from actual Japanese instagram users. Leaning more into a repro-inspired style will be more classic and timeless, which is a pretty safe bet if you're already in your 30s. The issue with companies like Freenote or especially RGT is that they are stuck in the relatively short-lived 2010 millennial era where all their jeans are either pretty slim relative to an actual vintage 501 cut, or they have an absurd amount of taper which makes you look homosexual. Things like heavy weight denim, tapered cuts, slim cuts are extremely millennial coded. Yes, you are a millennial, but the fashion that millennials were known for arguably looks awful especially compared to the classic american pieces of clothing that were tied to counterculture and rebellion in the 40s-60s.

with nu filson i wouldn't trust any new or imported products unless you can try them on in person or return it easily. they still make some of the classics as well as they used to with an inflated price tag but the imported stuff is hit or miss some is good some is mids.

Not the biggest fan of the top block fit because its too droopy to properly tuck a shirt in, but they're basically sweatpants level comfy so I still keep them in the rotation.

Objectively I know that, but I really prefer the 60s-80s fitted top block style denim fit over the more traditional workwear silhouette. Think Springsteen in his prime or Swayze in Roadhouse. Its just a massive pain in the ass to find a pair that fits that way so I end up settling.
And the Wescos are great. I very quickly went from one pair to four (black cxl mr lou- pictured, black waxed olive mr lou, black cxl boss, burlap boss 7500) with a fifth on the way (umber cxl). I find them comfortable, but Ive also been wearing leather footwear the majority of my adult life with just one painful break in across dozens of pairs so I may not be the best person to gauge comfort off of.

you can just get 60's 70's and 80's jeans dead stock or lightly worn and they're not even very expensive or hard to track down. ESPECIALLY if you venture outside of the realm of Levi's, who are sort of mids anyways. Prices or rarity only starts to get ridiculous when you go 50's and older.
just be aware: 60's and early 70's is the same quality as japanese repro stuff. early 70's and on the fabrics decline in quality (still great by modern standards) and you have to start careful of polyester blends. if you see a deadstock pair cheap thats sitting that may be why.

I hate the idea of tailoring jeans. Dunno why but something about it sets off my tism. Maybe its because I hate the idea of having to jump through hoops to get pants to fit. That said I do want to visit Blackhorse Lane at some point and have a fully custom pair built out.
