today i tested out Alessandro Manfredini:

>Top:
Rosemary and Star Anise

>Mid:
Green Cyclamen

>Base:
Ambergris, Cedarwood and Tonka

it is a very sweet and seductive scent with a hint of herbal notes in it, i like it and i think it is a great way of starting the captain fawcett collection. i will see how it weighs against others soon.

I find itโ€™s a little more rich and earthy in the opening, and the longevity is a bit better, but neither of them last particularly long.
Itโ€™s also a bit annoying the vintage juice is yellow enough to stain a white shirt, which is exactly the kind of shirt I would want to wear with it.

Totally depends on the frag since some ingredients are more volatile than others. Citrus and lighter top notes become almost unrecognizable in old fragrances. Oxygen oxidizes. In the end time makes fools of us all.
Anonymous No.18482110
just had the first whiff from all of these, i think triumphant was my favorite it had a very green and citrusy lime scent to it, nebula came in close second with the citrusy and slightly fruity scent, booze and baccy was good but the smell of alcohol and tobacco isn't really my thing. maharajah was my least favorite, i was expecting musk scent with spicy notes on it but i didn't really get anything out of it.

Dior launches its new fragrance Sauvage, with the name originating from the fragrance Eau Sauvage from 1966, although the two donโ€™t belong to the same collection. Sauvage is inspired by wild, open spaces; blue sky that covers rocky landscapes, hot under the desert sun.

Dior in-house perfumer, Franรงois Demachy, signed this creation. The fragrance is announced as radically fresh, raw and noble at the same time. The composition is reportedly prevalent with carefully selected natural ingredients. Fresh top notes of Calabria bergamot encounter ambroxan, obtained from precious ambergris, and its woody trail.

Dior Sauvage comes out in September 2015, advertised by actor Johnny Depp. It is available as 60 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Number one is equaly as enjoyable, more tonic, less soapy, enjoyable pissy note, my nose pick up that rose, apple, honey, moss, it mixes beautifully with my sweat
I'm not disapointed, feels classic, something that I already smelled somewhere in time, feels familiar.

I got a bottle of Frederic Malle's Cologne Bigarade. It's not what I expected, I was expecting a typical cologne with juicy citrus on the top followed by a refreshing scent. Instead the bitter orange top is... bitter, and very dry. The whole fragrance is dry, I don't get rose but I do get a little pepper. Mainly what I get after the bitter orange is a very green grassy scent which makes sense for the hay note. For me it's not the damp smell of dry hay but a green hay and with the pepper it's a bit spicy. It brings an image of a horse but not a stinky horse, a frolicking horse on a meadow. It would definitely attract a horse girl. Instead of a playful fresh scent it's very somber, instead of shorts and a t-shirt, it's slacks and a blazer. As someone who enjoys fragrances with mild longevity this one really pushes the limit. I don't think anyone looking for more than a literal couple of hours should look at this. At least you can spray to your heart's content and it's great on clothes. In my collection it's great for a cologne when I don't want the fresh juicy casual summer fragrance. It's a nice all purpose scent so it would be great to be known for it and a good default when you don't have something specific in mind. I think it would work in all seasons but clearly it wont project much when it's cool.

YSL just completely changed the smell of it. Aside from a faint whisper of the Y dna they're diametrically different fragrances. So different that they changed the bottle too. Something about the old Parfum smelling too similar to their bestseller EDP I guess.

It's still pretty damn good in its own right but in a different way. It's definitely overhated by fans of the old formulation. Having tested the original line and landing on Le Parfum as my favorite and the only full-bottle worthy fragrance from the line then months later buying something that smells nothing like it took me time to adjust to, that's all.

Eau sauvage (the 1960s stuff, not Sauvage), acqua di parma colonia, guerlain vetiver, nicolai new york, chanel pour monsieur
Basically stuff your dad wore if your dad happened to be rich and stylish, but which is still elegant and timeless. Can't be old money without the old. Aventus is almost the definition of a new money fragrance.

โ€œBlue fragrance,โ€ referring to the category started BY BDC, essentially boils down to what, citrus over ambroxan? And among the competitors which basically only consist of the Sauvage, YSL Y and Luna Rossa lines plus like Dylan Blue, NONE of these have actually surpassed even the original BDC, much less the Parfum which remains the pinnacle of the genre, imo

is not old money, it's just old. Every poor person knows someone who wore one of the thousands of identical smelling fougeres and they only smell like an uncle or a grampa. While we're on the topic of Bisch, is Sel d'Issey any good? Looking for a summer scent I can just spray on whenever and have it be fitting every time. Closest place that has it is like 3 hours away and I cba if it sucks.

While I'm there I plan on trying L'Eau d'Issey too and making a judgement maybe. Is either of them worth the 3 hour car ride?

My favorites are:
- Tom Ford Noir Extreme <- my personal favorite but doesn't last too long (doesn't smell like a typical Tom Ford perfume)
- Porsche Design 180 Silver <- got most compliments for this one, a strong and long-lasting perfume
- Mercedes Benz Club Black <- a cheaper alternative, smells also great but is weaker

I personally know not a single person owning one of these and where I'm at I never smelled anyone wearing these.

Literally the best private line out there, you really can't go wrong with any of their classics.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you asking this makes me think you'd blind buy but I would recommend getting like 1-2ml samples of most of their most popular fragrances, based on her note preferences (e.g. she likes vanilla -> Spiritueuse Double Vanille is the best vanilla on the market or Neroli Outrenoir if she's a fan of tea notes).

I highly doubt there's a single fragrance in this line she wouldn't like, but I also guarantee that she'd be head over heels in love with at least one of them which would make your gift all the more special and meaningful. Yes it'd kinda dampen the surprise but that's a fair trade-off imo.

Iconic Harmony would be your best bet because it both offers an extra gift for her in the form of being able to test 8 different fragrances from the best line in perfumery. It'd also allow you to plan for a future gift in a full bottle of the fragrance she likes most.

I'm still a fan of getting decants from a reliable place for her to test but I'm also surprised at how good the set is. Only staples it's missing are Tobacco Honey, Fรจve Gourmande and Rose Barbare (and maybe Iris Torrรฉfiรฉ if she's an iris girlie).

I say definitely pull the trigger on the set and get her whatever she liked most from it at a later point. If you can also somehow get your hands on the three I mentioned, even better. Godspeed

Oud minerale is definitely not what you're looking for. It's stinky seaweed in a seaside dock. Strangely alluring, very much so, but it's the exact opposite of pleasant, classy, and smooth.

Phenomenal scent but even though it's not skanky, I don't think it has the elegance you seek, it's more about raw masculinity to me, like a leather armour.

It can be used for any brand anyone dislikes, and it's only used here due to contrarianism.
