Let's summon OmegaDrunk.
You know the drill.
This is an accumulation of the Internet's wealthiest and most knowledgeable watch enthusiasts. You can take advantage of that fact by asking niche and very obscure questions, you can join us by posting wristshots, coffee, grail watches and anything in-between, OR you can simply asks us for recommendations and thoughts on X watch.
Keep it civilized, this is a gentlemans hobby after all.

Buy a watch with a hardened or titanium case so it doesnโt get trashed in a couple months from rubbing against building materials. A few good options to check out (in descending order of price point) would be anything from Sinn, anything from Damasko, an Archimede Outdoor (any model) or 200 series, a Dekla Turbulenz with 6steel case, or a citizen attesa in titanium.
You could also go real cheap and disposable by getting something like a timex or Casio f91w or a159wa-nijh

>>18483635It means you're a dick sucking avaturd.
>>18483635>>18483639The star in the triangle? It's just an early indication that the indices were applied, used on the 8970 model which wasn't produced very long. That and the Seikomatic logo (the spinning gyro thingy above the Seiko logo) disappeared with the 8971, but, there were still 8971 models being made equipped with a 8970 dial.
So we have:
8970 dial in a 8970 case
8970 dial in a 8971 case
8971 dial in a 8971 case
All are supposed to be legit, i doubt there would be that many spare 8970 dials around to warrant that many mismatched watches. Plus i personally have a mismatched watch (dial says 66-9880 case says 66-9990) and it's not uncommon.
>>18483639This is the first Weekdater, model J13080. There exists a variant with all the indices the same length. There's also a variant with black 30 instead of blue.
>>18483736Actually nickel plating
>>18483736>Rhodium platedThis was mentioned in the description too, it makes sense, as the star, albeit a bit different, is still used in GS to ibdicate a precious metal dial.

Also, the highest ever Rolex sold at auction is $17 million for some cheesy old actor's weirdo daytona. But the watch of a WW2 general, and fucking US president, which he wore daily for >35 years, doesn't even break $500k? What the hell is wrong with people?

Contrast that with the most powerful military operational commander of all time who would later become one of the most successful US presidents of all time. Don't let weird contrarianism give you buyers remorse. >>18489422I actually enjoy winding it, at least for now

>I don't know about every single morning. If you do it every morning you only have a couple of twists to do. It's not that long. I don't mind, really.
Sometimes I wind it during the evening too just to fiddle with the thing.
As I said, it'll probably become more of a chore as the time passes, but so far it's great.
>>18489428Wearing a tool watch to a formal event is a bigger disappointment than your watches matching. If you were all wearing the same datejust or constellation or tank or calatrava that would be fine, they're good watches AND appropriate for the occasion.
>>18489432I don't know about everyone's morning routine but for me personally. If I woke up and had breakfast with my wife every single morning and I wore the watch to work it wouldn't be so bad, I'd enjoy the days when I could wind the speedy while we're having coffee and pastries for breakfast. But I work in the morning and she has a schedule where she works in the afternoon and evening every day for a week and then she's off for a full week, so on her work weeks she sleeps in while I get ready and go to work and then isn't home when I get home, so we don't really have a time where we just sit and chill those days. I just want to throw my work watch on, got to work, come home from work, throw a play watch on and play, then go to bed when she comes home.
That kind of plays into why manual wind is so great for special occasion dress watches. If you only wear a watch for a day or two at a time a couple times a year you only have to wind it once before you put it away again. It's not a problem at all. But I guess our great grandpas made it work.
>>18489440Don't you get the joy of interaction with mechanical thing? For me feeling and hearing it click knowing that cogs inside are spinning and the spring is tightening it's just a nice thing to do.

The full movement visible via the transparent caseback is a pleasant extra too I guess?
This is all you need. No you don't need a meme bond watch. (moon landing was fake btw)

>you can't
>>18489452Does the speedmaster make big notable clicks when winding? I have the new seamaster reissue and I notice that you can't really feel the clicks and you have to put your ear close to hear it. It's pretty smooth unless you wind it over max and the spring starts slipping(it's automatic) then you can hear and feel it and know to stop. Maybe the speedmaster has more going on.
I like that stuff, but like I said sometimes you're just preoccupied and don't want to take your watch off and fuck with it, maybe you forgot to wind it yesterday and it died and you don't want to fuck with setting it, etc... Eventually

should have spent my watch money on hookers
>>18490027Spend the money you don't want to spend on the next watch you DEFINITELY don't want to get next on hookers.
>>18490023What are you trying to achieve?
for me its premium swiss only
>Tissot PRX light blue dial 25mm
>>18490022I don't care what you might think, this guy fucks hard.
>>18490023It's the other way around.
>>18490022>"You can't have a one watch collec-"It's over...
this watch is all I want and it's very stupid it was discontinued and is only available at an even more stupid premium above its original retail than other OPs
>>18490023Rich guys with the most insane watch collections youve ever seen still get pleased as shit with themselves putting on a seiko turtle and mowing their five acre property on their fancy riding lawn mower.
>>18490022Isnโt it inconvenient having to constantly switch out bands for every new occasion?
>>18490334Nice pair, exactly the same as mine, what a coincidence.
>>18490371They're not just for one watch, and no, it doesn't, quickrelease is a blessing.
>>18490304I can confirm, I'm from a wealthy white family ($72k/year before taxes) and I have a christopher ward and a parnis militare and I love wearing my seiko 5 while mowing the lawn, it feels like something a regular, salt-of-the-earth guy would do before going inside to beat his wife
Sup best thread. Enjoy your weekends while they last.
>>18489419Spayed tortie guy here again, how long did you leave the collar on yours? Mine was groggy and disoriented most of the first day but I've been letting her walk around the house when we're here to supervise and she's already trying to box and wrestle with her brother. They say to leave this shit on her for 10-14 days and I don't want to rush her but she's acting totally normal.
>>18490375Unironically, in most of the country that's a good living and a good life.
>>18490372>what a coincidence. You got me hooked on weekdaters a while back and I was lucky to find one with a reddish tropical dial. I got a good deal on the brushed dial one a year go but I don't like the case as much, the lugs and screwback makes it float over my wrist.
>>18490393Meh, take it off as soon as the wound isn't bothering her anymore, it's just there to prevent her messing up the wound.
>>18490425>>18490425>was lucky to find one with a reddish tropical dial.Yeah I've seen a couple of them and other models as well with the same kind of patina, it seems that if they have encountered moisture early in their life the layers of lacquer began to fade. I've seen golden, pink, reddish and even purple dials, often starting in the center.
>but I don't like the case as much, the lugs and screwback makes it float over my wrist.Yeah it is a bit more hefty, it doesn't taper in as well the 8990 does. It does have a small concave section just below the flanks that i only noticed yesterday. I love the sharp lugs so much though, very similar geometry as the Heuer Carrera, the whole case is similar.
>>18490441>even purple dials, often starting in the centerOne of my biggest ebay regrets is not buying a cheap Lord Marvel 36000 with a very distinct purple circle in the dial. I've made some money flipping tropical dial Omegas but the Seikos look really nice when it happens
>>18490441You get more water resistance from the screw on caseback though, 50m!
>>18490443LMs got them as well yes, and some King Seikos too.
Hey Z could you call that shop and say thanks, please? Just say that everything was better than expected and express my gratitude and so on. Could you do that for me please? I think it's appropriate.
>>18490151You taking your mid at best old seiko out of my sight and not have to see this affront to my eyes ever again.

Also no. I'll even let you know that i opted for olive nubuck today, it suits the watch very well.

>>18482660 (OP)Can someone identify this watch please? It's not any Breitling I could find, but it has a very similar bezel to older Breitlings, and obviously the two digital screens.
>>18491092I think the only thing that we and the other thread can all agree on is that you should definitely try to suck-start a shotgun.
Looking for a diver to actually dive with. Narrowed it to these options, but any other suggestions? The bungee strap is a must.
>>18491094Are you absolutely sure it's not some form of Breitling aerospace?
>>18491113They also made some similar watches under the navitimer moniker.
>>18491094maybe one of casio's AW or LCW models?
>>18491104you know you can get invicta rolex meme for $49 right? that seiko is street line, not for diving. seiko diving is prospex now. look into orient if you want. or get a citizen.
>>18491104you know dive watches are a meme right? Just get a Casio f91w or the slightly upgraded version with a better backlight and use a dive computer if you really need that kind functionality. Divers don't wear dive watches they wear cheap ones that work
>>18491248If you're a recreational diver it's fine to have some fun and larp the way they used to dive in the good old days.
>>18491248What level of autism is this?
Can you casio copers stop giving us a bad name?
Have you fags ever gone outside? Ever gone swimming?
Probably not.
Wearing a dive watch while diving = literal larping
Wearing a F91w while gooning = based and legitimate alpha behavior.
Let me gusse you don't like text on the dial or anything over 40mm?
>just hydro mod your Skmei F91w with the residuals from your bitcoin mining linux rig
Haha no thanks faggot, for me, I wear vintage Tag 1000
>>18491276You can wear a dive watch sure but it's an outdated method of keeping track of dive times. Any diver thats serious uses a dive computer. a cheap Casio will be just fine at any depth that's safe to dive at and you don't have to shell out more than 20 bucks for it. win-win imo, why overspend unless you want to signal to other people that you dive. just be honest with yourself anon, it's fine.
t.coastal surfer anon who dives for fun
>>18491248why won't you have a cheap dive watch if you do diving ?
>>18491283you can't time dive time appropriately with a cheap casio
>>18491287>>18491288if you wanna get into the weeds about it a cheap diver isn't a good choice either. Most divers wear a dive computer as I already said, and something like a smartwatch or a G-Shock as a backup in case the computer fails. No one wears mechanical watches for diving anymore unless you're a watch enthusiast. And if you are, any Seiko diver or other watch like it will be just fine. And saying it's a backup is mostly just so people don't look at you like you're crazy for wearing one. I just say Casio because chances are you aren't going to need it if you just want a watch that will survive the water. But if you want to buy a diver and say you went diving with it, buy whatever you like and don't pretend it's for utility. It's for the flex. I have nothing against dive watches, just people who won't admit it's for the style points.
>>18491283Your mother is an outdated method of dumpstering my cum.
>>18491283So you're a gate keeping beach bum?
I wear a dive watch so I can wash my girls pussy juices off in the sink.
Cool story tho, I'm sure you look sick with your f91w on your boogie board.
I wear 300m dive watches to the mall.
For me, its the Invicta Pro Diver 45mm.
>>18491115>>18491113I'm not sure but I searched for like 3 hours for all possible vintage Breitlings and couldn't find it. That was the first thing that popped to mind. I'm not seeing a Breitling winged logo anywhere, and I couldn't find a single one with just 3 and 6 so I don't know.
