This was in my dadโs drawer but the battery was out, so I got it replaced and now I wear it daily, what do you guys think?
How do you feel about vintage watches?
Do you have one? Do you wear it regularly?
If you don't own one, do you plan on buying one someday?
>>18484444 (OP)should I buy this for a 100 dollars. seems like a good deal but its untested. is the Australian dollar especially weak rn or something?
>>18484479I have a bunch and I don't wear them much.
Mainly because I do most of my commuting by bicycle and there are a lot of streets with rough pavement over there, that kind of shake is not good for an older, fragile watch that may or may not have any NOS repair parts floating around out there.
Instead I wear my Casio and my Vostok because who cares if these break.
You can get a new Casio anywhere for less that you'd spend on groceries for a week.
You can (maybe not anymore though) order whatever Vostok movement part you need straight from Meranom.
You can't exactly do that for an Accutron jeweled fork.
I just got my mini grail watch in the mail!
It's so perfect, the dial, the size, everything! Best watch ever.
>>18484479I bought a king and a grand quartz seiko from the 70's, the famous penis watches, as a restoration project, but i never got into it. I am a bit retarded and don't know where to start.

Iโm looking for a cheap watch with strong lume that goes all night and 100m+ water resistance.
Anything on the market thatโs better, specifically better looking than the Lorus Lumibrite?
I like the basic Marathon field watches for their tritium but they seem overpriced. Are there any cheap Chinese tritium shitters?
>>18484503gshock
also, how many times a year do you dive around 100m?
>>18484505Needs to be hands-free operation, otherwise Iโd just get a Timex Expedition with Indiglo.
Iโm in the water enough to warrant getting a watch with reliable water resistance.

>>18484529>>18484551Remember: this is not the thread for bittercelposting. Thanks.
>>18484502Go ahead. Chronoswiss is not a popular brand here (or anywhere else, for that matter) but old catalogs from the dark ages can be interesting.
>Chronoswiss was founded in 1983 in Munich, Germanykek
>>18484559There is a very specific subset of german boomers who massively rate Chronoswiss and Temption as if they saved watchmaking in the 80s and shifted the epicenter of watchmaking from Switzerland to Germany.
When really, all the two did was poach movement stocks from foreclosed swiss factories.
Only reason Chronoswiss is a name you may encounter today and not Temption is that Chronoswiss at least stands out by using modules on their ETA movements while Temption now is what would be considered a microbrand. Except its pricing is not competitive, its distribution is nonexistent and its own website and ordering process is beyond antiquated.

>>18484458yeah good beater for fishing or kayaking
WDYT the price will be few years in? Will it be closer to initial ~15k because it's not Sub/GMT/Daytona, or the integrated bracelet and visible movement will grown on people?
>>18484621It depends on what they do with it.
If they just produce them as-is, then prices will eventually settle down.
If they discontinue the ugly dials in one or two years and replace them with normal dials then the prices for the first ones will skyrocket but the others will normalize.
It also matters how many they make. If itโs always going to be a low production model, then prices will stay high.
>>18484624Oh yeah, I haven't thought about dial change
>>18484621these things could be nice if they get their shit together with the dial.

Can't get much thinner than this
>>18484593I don't want to post my mini grail, i don't want people to comment on it.
It's a vintage timepiece.
>>18484640If they just used a regular glossy dial with regular stick lume markers it would have been so much cleaner and better.
>>18484679I didn't even notice before I hit post because I didn't pay much attention to the diamond set versions, but the one with baguet markers actually demonstrates this. Diamonds are gay but the watch just looks better without the 6 and 9 with just rectangle markers.
Casio is really trying to tell you that these 19mm thick orbital mine looking shitters are in their top 10 best sellers.
I thought I was purely a bracelet guy but after wearing more watches on leather I'm coming around to it. It's shocking how nicely crocodile straps stretch to fit and break in for you specifically. Is this why God created crocodilians? To drop legendary crafting materials on death?
>>18484658Why is it so thin?
>>18484707It's thin because there's not much mass between the bottom of the case back and top of the crystal.
>>18484707Is there a problem?
>>18484732Truly mind blowing
I just bought my first watch ever. It's arriving today, a Seiko Presage Mojito. Green is my favorite color and the dial looks really nice. I'm excited, but even with my novice eyes I can tell that the strap is hideous. I could use some recommendations on strap/bracelet type, etc.
>>18484773I have the same case and it is a bit hard to find a good matching strap. Yours might looks cool with a quilted pattern strap

>>18484807Why would you think they CAN'T do it? They probably just have people smarter than you in charge of development and marketing who knows just because you CAN do something doesn't mean it's worth doing. 2. Cannot produce high horology watches and
3. Cannot produce compelling n dress watches and
4. Cannot produce beautiful movements

>>18484657Anorexic watch. Congratz, i think it's too thin but as an engineering feat it's admirable.
>>18484854I'm not jacking of Rolex at all. I'm just saying basing the quality of a brand on the complications they put in their movements they make is retarded. The most popular watches in the world are time only and chronographs. That's just reality. Rolex has a choice of either spending millions and millions of dollars and years of development producing a perpetual calendar movement, or saving the time and money and effort and continuing to focus on making boatloads of money selling daytonas and nodate subs. It seems like a no brainer, honestly. I'm sure they welcome you to buy a IWC Portugueser eternal calendar if that suits you better. They're not going to cry about it.
who the fuck asked this avaturdfag to spam his shitter catalog here?
fuck off and die bastard
>>18484823>>18484835I've handled a Chronoswiss Cabrio a while ago. The design is quite awful. Basically, the case is held in the chassis by a horizontal axis at the top. You unclip the case from the bottom, but it doesnโt slide within the chassis (like a Reverso). However, you can flip the watch over and clip it back in, which allows you to see the movement.
Itโs a poor mix between a Reverso and a Tank Basculante. You canโt use it as a bedside watch because when you unclip it, the dial is upside down.
Also, the finishing is cheap and the watch is rather thick because of the automatic movement.
>>18484862Thanks anon. I became a "watch enthusiast" only like 2 months ago, and this is my first $1k+ purchase. I wanted something small, light, comfortable, low maintenance, inconspicuous, well engineered, and elegantly designed for my first serious "daily wear" watch. I really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this, and think it's a neat looking watch. I know people shit on Citizen, but it's not easy to build something like this (It's like the 4th thinnest watch in the world, and the top 3 are all >$500k).

2. Yes, but buying a basic movement from high horology brand doesn't make it better than getting better movement from non-high horology brand
Also somehow I don't feel that perpetual make IWC high horology, same with Hermes
3. Those are dress watches by the fact how often they're worn with a dress
4. Land-dweller looks the same, if not nicer than Moser or GP at that price
>>18484807>>18484854>If the criteria I just made up aren't respected, then I win! Checkmate!kek that's an ad hoc definition of what makes a good watch manufacturer, anon.
Laurent Ferrier, Moritz Grossmann, Rexhep Rexhepi and many more independents have never produced a perpetual calendar nor a minute repeater. Please, go ahead and explain how these watchmakers are vastly inferior to Frederique Constant which does make perpetual calendars.
As for Rolex, they make high quality industrial sports watches. They have no business in the "high horology decorated movements insane complications" thing. It's like saying Hoka makes awful shoes because they don't produce hand-welted goodyear oxfords shoes. That's dishonest and retarded.

Is sapphire crystal really that important
>>18485361It depends. I have watches with acrylic and mineral crystals that I've worn for years with no scratches, but I don't do any kind of work in them so they've never had any real risk of bashing against a cabinet or case or drawer or something. There's no real reason a daily watch couldn't or shouldn't have sapphire though. Maybe if you had some legitimate reason to think you might drop your watch acrylic could be better.

Meant to post this one (2024). You can see IWC dropped from 11 to 14.
>>18485346The problem, I think, is that the concept they're allegedly going for and what the brand does in practice are at odds with one another. They're supposed to be like the ultimate sports watch designed for crazy shock resistance and durability and all that, going to crazy engineering lengths to achieve that. And normally that would be fine, even at the ridiculous price point they operate at there are diminishing returns on making something the best of the best of the best so to a degree you can understand them being expensive to pull that off. But then, nonsensically, they produce watches like this example

New G-Shock
Expected to cost $400 dollars
Solid links and this textured dial has only previously been seen on their four figure watches
This is likely the best value analogue G-Steel to be available

>>18486190Oh good, another 44mm quartz shitter.
>>18486221>quartz shitter.yes a watch which doesn't' lose time or need maintenance which costs more than the watch itself
>>18486234And has no reason to be over 40mm, but it is anyway because reasons.
>>18486231I'm in kind of a ehite dial era right now, I really like how white dials pop. Especially for gold watches.
>>18486238you're under 5ft10
>>18486245Youโre Indian.
>>18486245I'm 6 feet tall and have 8 inch wrists, but keep coping with your big gaudy shitters. One day wearing oversized watches will make you a real man, probably.
>>18486231It irks me to no end how the FOIS doesn't have all metallic hands. I understand why it doesn't, but it's still irritating to look at.
>>18486285It would be fine if the lume was white
>>18486293The lume is fine. The brown-orange contrasts well with that dark blue dial. It's the white bits that disrupt the whole thing. It is supposed to be a more sleek dressy chronograph, but they got too bogged down by le heritage and the "tool" nature of the watch and in the end they kinda missed the mark on both.
I've got to replace the strap on an old Seamaster I've got. Any recommendations for metal mesh straps? It had an Evinger one on it but one of its ends got bent at some point and I don't feel like fixing it.
Does /fa/ prefer smooth or fluted?
>>18486432Smooth.
36 and oyster
>>18486432nasty polishing
would look miles better brushed
>>18486190A dressy integrated bracelet Casio, I'll pass.
>>18486432Smooth & Jubilee. though i'd like rolex to make more interesting dials
> rolex
> interesting dials
>>18486432Fluted. Although it's a bit gaudy it still looks better than the fat rounded glob that is the smooth bezel.
>>18484621pretty shameful that even Rolex is doing cope watches now
>>18486231left has a better dial and hands
right has a MUCH better case and bracelet
Looking for a watch or two, cheap as possible. Something to daily maybe f91w, and something to go with a suit for various occasions. My wrists are thin im a guy. Never had a watch.
>>18486432If we're talking modern DJ, my favorite is picrel.
>smooth bezel>jubilee bracelet>green dial>36mmFor vintage, I like the classic configuration jubilee + fluted bezel + silver dial.
Remember when this oversized and overdesigned shitter was /wt/'s favorite watch around 2022/2023?
>>18486521No, dadwatch, I don't.
>>18486521No, it was one guy who wanted to buy one and tried to prime the thread. Itโs common practice here.
The idea is:
>want to buy a [insert watch name here]>steer thread to talking constantly about how based said watch is, samefagging as needed>buy watch and post it >bask in the flood of positive (You)sbut it never fucking works.
>>18486589Non sub second. More traditional Panerai.
Why would someone go through all this trouble just for a couple of yous?
>>18486596All what trouble?
>>18486596Itโs not so much the yous as much as it is getting positive affirmation from the community that an expensive purchase has improved their social standing.
Look how often someone posts their new watch and then gets immediately teased. Those posters generally go nuts. Itโs a large part of why /wt/ is a cesspit and /nawt/ had to be created.
kofe time, for example, has been spamming his watch for YEARS because no one liked it when he bought it.
What are some watches with fun dials?
>>18486587Nah. The Overseas was immensely popular around 2022/2023 including here. It was a way for tastelets to ride the blue-dial-integrated-bracelet-luxury-sports-watch trend while also being a contrarian (and also because only niggers and kikes like the RO and the Nautilus).
I'm glad this trend btw.
>>18486589I hate to say this but Panerai is slowly growing on me. I like the ones with a rugged look. I usually hate large watches AND fauxtina but you know... It's kinda like being a white supremacist and fucking a black chick once in a while.

Holy fuck, Grand Seiko announced a 37mm diameter spring drive watch with a rotor under 12mm. And the power reserve is on the back. And it has toolless microadjust on the bracelet. Is this company actually trying to sell watches now?
>>18487048Oh wow.

>>18487226You're annoying with the constant Seiko hate.
>>18487247Yeah well Seiko just sucks.
They're ugly, badly finished and give off weeb/dork vibes.
>>18487247NTA, but every brand here gets hate. Toughen up, a little, eh? No oneโs attacking you personally.
Seiko deserves plenty of hate, seeing as theyโve been steadily moving upmarket, price-wise, while doing nothing to improve their quality issues. Beyond that, they have a lovely habit of taking the few pieces that they make that actually look good and discontinuing them or changing them for no reason.
>>18487273>NTA, but every brand here gets hate.Objectively speaking Hublot and Jacob&Co get a lot less hate here than Rolex, Omega, IWC or Seiko.
>>18487289No surprise. Those brands are barely even acknowledged to exist here. Same with Franck Muller.

Thoughts on this quartz?
>>18487299do you like it?
>>18487299It's ok, basic.
>>18487048That grey blue/silverish tint and that pattern kind of reminds of the Land-Dweller but toned down. idk if it's an actual trend.
Also, it's a 10K watch, i wonder how many people will consider it at this price when then can have a Yatch-Master or a flutted bezel Datejust at this price.

Shifty way to avoid warranty issues.

>>18487912That's good in some cases.
Trust me, you don't want to manually wind an 8 Days movement through the crown guard.
TFW I don't need a GMT watch as I live in Greenwich and never go on holiday.
>>18487936The thing that bugs me about a manual winding watch with a screw down crown is that you always have to be extremely careful about not cross-threading the crown tube every time you wind it.

Manual wind movement, blue dial, stainless steel. It was NOS so literally 10/10 condition. I've never been able to find another one.
>>18487957This specific one had a gold bezel and crown. Never seen on e like it since :(
>>18487955I've handled plenty of PAMs, new and for repair, and trust me you need to be King Retard of Fat Hands Land to ever cross-thread a Radiomir.
I've seen more broken crown guard levers than broken Radiomir crowns. Which is a surprise, you'd expect to see a bunch of Radiomir crowns getting bumped and bent but apparently not.
>>18487984Iโll take your word for it. My experience with hand winding screw down crowns has been just with old Rolex Oysterdates and such. Those are really fiddly.
If Panerai overbuilt the crown tube threads, then thatโs good thinking on their part.
let me guess... you need more
>>18488038The autodromo I felt was too expensive for what it was, The Seiko SCED001 I got as a bargain and because it was 1 of 250 I sold for a hefty profit (theyr're also pretty poor quality).

>>18488061Okay so no watch in the gym. Let's take that off the list.
What's a respectable watch
>>18488062Personally, i wouldn't go to the big brands for that price. What they offer would be substantially worse than microbrands have. But you absolutely want the brands at least some peole heard of, i quite like new Mido collection, multifort big data and ocean star with textured dial.
>>18488062>>18488025>>18487840gshock is respectable unless you want to get respect for wearing a watch? won't happen. get quartz not auto. it's much less of a headache. or get a metal gshock i guess.
or get a fake rolex

>>18488057You should seriously consider if you actually do want automatic. They require servicing which is expensive and are more fragile, less accurate and will stop if you don't wear it for a few days.
>>18488046>it was 1 of 250Who told you that?
>>18488057Don't listen to the retards in this thread. Very few people here actually know or care about watches. Either get something from a microbrand or a vintage watch.
A few microbrands you should look into if you're looking for something with a bit of originality:
>Baltic>Lorier>Lorca>Nivada>Doxa>Serica>Brew>Straum>YemaYou can also look into well established brands like
>Sinn>Junghans>Longines>HamiltonOr vintage. You can get some deals on vintage Omega, IWC, Universal Geneve, etc. But it can be a bit tricky if you don't do your homework before buying.
