Yes, you don’t need to dress well to show you’re intellectually or physically capable of doing a job and doing it well, but you know what dressing well does signal? That you’re reliable. That you do what you’re told. That you’re diligent. That you do research before you make decisions. They you’re likely to take things seriously. That you understand presentation and thus customer service and making your boss look good. That you won’t leave right away because you’re dissatisfied. Al these matter way more than how well you can do some task. For these reasons, the best strategy for getting a job is to dress up.
