This thread is relevant to my interests so I would like to bump it. I'm not very tolerant of sun these days and I would like a hat that keeps it off of me that doesn't make me look like an ultramarathon dweeb. It feels like there aren't any masculine options, and most cowboy hats are still too small.

Something like this in form that isn't made of shitty synthetic materials seems impossible to find. Maybe I just need to shop in the women's section and see what works?

The synthetic sport material is what makes it look normal and not a costume piece.

You wear polyester so as not to look like you're in a costume, yet costumes are predominantly made of polyester. The dichotomy of fabric discussion is strange.

This is garbage.

For real though, not OP, but how do I deal with the sun? I'm pale as hell and boil alive at 18c, so I need real shit. Is there any kind of hat that has brim enough to shield a guy without making him look like a total autist like >>18486892 ?

Skin has its own mechanism to cope with sun exposure, and that is by tanning. It's obviously not good for the skin to get burned, but it's also not good for the skin to get no sun at all. You have to do the happy medium thing.

Yeah, I guess, but I've never experienced the medium. It's seven months of dull or dark and then five months of burning, and that's what you see on people, too -- tanning-bed-brown or gamer-pallor and then lobster and back again.

humanity got better at catching and diagnosing instances of skin cancer due to modern medicine and awareness. People simply weren't checking for it.

Let me guess you're an anti-vaxxer too?
You also think fluoride in our water is harmful.
There's no evidence of sunscreens causing cancer.
Again we just got better at checking for cancer. There will be another massive jump in the rate of cancer diagnoses because AI has gotten really fucking good at detecting early cancer.

Fluoride is toxic when swallowed, why do we all have to drink it just for children to have a miniscule less chance of cavities? Give every child their own juice pack of flouride if they need it so much
