Just saying that both are quartz and look 90% alike, one is around 1K (which is already too much) and the other is 15K.

No. The VC has a manual wind movement.
https://goldammer.me/collections/sold/products/vacheron-constantin-2098-square-malachite-1970s
It's 10k eurobucks, not 15k. It's also solid gold and incredibly rare (only a handful of VC with stone dials were made). The price was very reasonable btw. It was up for sale this morning and sold within 30 minutes.
>b-b-b-b-b-but people can't tell the difference
You're missing the point of vintage.

I'm not saying the Dennison is bad btw. I'd probably get it over pretty much anything else in that price point.

I was at my supermarket the other day, buying toilet paper with my 5K IWC pilot at my wrist, and they had a cheap watches display where they also sell vapes and shit, the watches were from 30โ‚ฌ to maybe 150โ‚ฌ max, it looked like picrel.
I looked at it, then at the 5K on my wrist, then back again, it looked exactly like the same kind of watch. The bracelets look the same, either leather or steel, the dials look like dials, the finishing good enough. Then i thought, "if i stay too long looking at this display, people will legit think that i bought my IWC there". So i walked away in embarrassment.

I donโ€™t think it is. They could have done a lot more wrong, like use a bizarre typeface or add an unnecessary logo. As it is, itโ€™s pretty subdued.
Putting the wordmark at the 12 oโ€™clock position would be more traditional, but the off center position is consistent with the 60โ€™s/70โ€™s style of the collection.

Unless thereโ€™s something wrong with it, like being a 42mm square or itโ€™s 15mm thick, or itโ€™s laughably overpriced, this is a fine dress watch that you donโ€™t have to feel bad about not wearing that often.

The newer 8 day hand winding movements are pretty poor.
I have a PAM233 from 2008 and itโ€™s extremely accurate over its entire reserve.
I picked up a PAM992 a couple years ago with the P.5000 movement and itโ€™s been a disappointment. Accuracy is all over the place and gets worse as it winds down.
The 233, despite being a decade older, is clearly the better designed movement.

The P.5000 is from Paneraiโ€™s darkest corner-cutting days.

There is aq4060, which needs no introduction, it's the one local schizophrenic has. In steel, with revolting cum dial, it's the cheapest and the worst.
Then things get interesting. There is aq4091 in titanium with paper dial and it is obviously much, much better, but it has problems i will explain in second part.

And so there is no version with this case shape and paper dial outside of one limited edition.

Picrel is a 2K+ eurobucks King Seiko. The accuracy is unacceptable for this kind of money. Many brands offer COSC certification for this kind of money or even less (Christopher Ward, Serica, etc).
Their most affordable mechanical shitters are advertised at +45 / -35 SECONDS A DAY lmao. Why are people even okay with this?

Honestly if you're short on money just get a Casio or a ~1k eurobucks micro shitter with a Peseux/ETA 7001 (advertised accuracy of 0/+7 seconds a day). Or even a vintage Omega, these watches are indestructible. Even a Swatch offers better value than a modern Seiko.

Seiko really is the lazy man option. You only buy these because they're available everywhere.

Was going to say this.

Realistically, more or less any movement can be adjusted to offer COSC-grade performance, but that takes time and money. Seiko doesnโ€™t bother with that with most of their watches.

The best you can get with a Seiko is to nudge the regulator into acceptable timekeeping. But a full 5 or 6 position adjustment? That requires a watchmaker and more money than the watch itself is worth new.

This is not intended to be a big-selling watch. Itโ€™s more of a demonstration of new and upcoming technologies. In this case, itโ€™s the super-black dial and the quick release strap system, among other things.
This follows the Tech3 and the Tech Gonbessa and the 500 Fathoms.
Iโ€™d be surprised if they made more than 1000 of them.
Itโ€™s like the PloProf or the DSSD.

I think the existence of this new model would be less frustrating if BP could simply make the FF that we all want.

If they took the cool tech, but made it in the classic dimensions, they would have a perfect watch and still be able to charge premium prices.

42mm x 13mm in polished stainless steel, just like 1953, with 20mm wide lugs
No date.
No BLANCPAIN engraving on the side of the case.
Closed caseback (or, better still give customers both, like GO does with their diver)

You want to add cool features like a vantablack dial, solid lume blocks for the indices, sapphire bezel insert? Fine.
Crazy screw bars to affix the strap? Fine, as long as you give customers the tool to change straps.

Bezel is already sapphire across the regular FF range (not on the Bathyscaphe if I'm not mistaken) and boy is that thing shiny. Makes the largter models unwearable even more so than the diameter.

I think when you buy a watch like that, you have to accept that the finish will wear. Like buying raw denim.

Consider how some of the original PVD Paneraiโ€™s look, or for that matter, how an old Rolex President looks when itโ€™s been worn everyday.

Heres my current favorite.

Aside from this one, I had been looking at a tutima chrono (the nato model one) that a shop had listed on etsy for an insanely good deal. I haf to move over money to my bank account which took several days, by the time I had the funds the watch had sold. Raging so hard.

Id prefer having day/date info than some 1/5th of a second meter spinning around like a top, having a moving seconds hand on the main dial is nice too, the small seconds on a chrono makes women think your pp smol

A fit like that is a lot better than a fit like this all day every day. The little vintage watch guy looks like he's comfortable hanging out with his family on summer vacation or on the golf course or something. He's chillin. Oversized pelagos guy looks like he can't wait to take it off because it's too big and heavy to be properly comfortable as a daily watch.
