Italy has always been like this, it's a gritty country.
Even in the 80s, they were the main place in Europe to sell fake Rolexes, fake bags and so on.
People who want real luxury stay away from anything owned by LVMH or Kering and buy clothes from small houses, Cifonelli, Rubinacci, Camps de Luca...
People in the know have never fucked with Loro Piana's Ready to Wear. What made the company famous was their textiles. You would go to your tailor and get something made in Loro Piana fabric. The company was founded in 1924 as a Textile Mill but didn't start doing Ready to Wear until the 80's when the Great Grandsons of the founder took over and basically went scam mode. The Ready to Wear from the moment it was conceived was poorly made crap that was just a means to use up their overstock fabrics. It was never meant for the discerning bespoke customer that ordered Loro Piana fabrics from their tailor. It was meant for NMP's (New Money Peabrainlets).
But the world is full of NMP's and the Ready to Wear did well and eventually LMVH came knocking. This was the real death knell of the company. Up until 2013 Loro Piana still made great fabrics and you could just ignore the kitschy Ready to Wear they did for dilettantes. But after LVMH got majority control of the company everyone knew the fabrics division would wither and die.
So even the people in the know who still used Loro Piana fabrics basically got out over 10 years ago, and switched to other storied Italian mills that have stayed family owned. Nobody who knew anything about real luxury or the Italian fashion industry was surprised about this. Only NMP's are shocked.

people should realise by now that no brand owned by LVMH is actually luxurious. they're infamous for cost-cutting to maximize profit margins
if you need to """flex""" with a famous luxury house, at least buy Hermes or something

I don't expect things to not be made in China. What I expect with a western brand is better quality control and less cut corners than with generic Chinese-made goods.

I'm not complaining about anything. Just letting /fa/ know no one in the know is surprised about this. Also my knowledge of this matter has nothing to do with my background. Which ironically is Old Money but we're talking Asset Rich Cash Poor WASPs. So my family would never spend money on clothes anyway lol. I'm the odd one out that got interested in this subject. Everyone else in my family literally wears Costco brand khaki's and polo shirts.

How fucking stupid do you have to be if you don't know in 2025 "Made in Italy" means Chinese slave labor working in Chinese owned sweatshops in Italy? You are truly a next level retard if you pay a premium for a "Made in Italy" label.

Made in italy meant something different 20 years ago
At worst i thought is was italians doing the slave labour
But chinks!?!?!? yuck i am disgusted by the entire luxury goods industry desu

You should see the exorcist style neck contortions people do when you say you have tailor made clothing. It's so rare now people from other departments at my work comment on it when they find out.
It's really bad and about the same cost as a quality piece plus I know who made it. People don't even know tailors make stuff others than suits.

Why are the owners of these companies fine with just ruining the brand? It's wild that there's just no sense of protecting their reputation and value over the long term.
