I'll start, i call it the "1K shitters collector".
He could have had 1 nice watch but instead he chose to get 2 fucking Christopher Warts, one MID-hoe, a fucking Erebus or whatever mystery meat this pink thing is and an ok watch, that is the Citizen.
I give this collection a 3.5/10 (for the Citizen mostly, and nothing is very garish either).

Nothing particularly stands out, no interesting complications (apart from the alarm on the BellMatic), no color, vanilla options. Watches got bigger with time, so probably did the person wearing them.

For many years, my grail watch has been a gold Rolex Day-Date. Now I could finally afford it - but I realize it’s really not very practical for everyday wear. I’d probably end up wearing it once every week or two when going out for dinner or something, but otherwise not at all.
So now another idea would be to get my second favorite watch first, an AP Royal. And then get the Rolex later as a second watch. Sure, professional thieves would still recognize it, but otherwise it’s much more under the radar than a gold watch.
What do you think about such “compromises”?

I would get a stainless daytona over an AP. I tend to agree with you about gold watches I have a gold cartier tank and I only wear it when I am going out to dinner or to weddings.
