Japanese Denim
is it worth it to buy one or is it just a ミーム
Anonymous No.18493886 [Report] >>18493887
when you say "japanese denim" do you mean like $800 jeans made by some bearded japanese hipster in kyoto that are cut like actual workman pants from 1910, or do you mean normal ass jeans from denim that was produced in japan?

the latter is definitely a step up from fast fashion crap and is recommended by me. the former, I wouldn't know, but it sounds really dumb, if I was going to blow money on something because thing japan it would be a panasonicu baiku with gokiso wheels

That depends. Personally I'm a schizoid hikikomori. Most leaders tend to be narcissists (also known as the warrior gene) and schizotypial/schizoid thinkers have autistic thinking without the cognitive impairment and for all of human history have tended to be either dysfunctional retards or paradigm shifting thinkers and transcendent virtuoso artists and the likes. My point is, those "chuds" were the most dangerous ones to the agenda behind the janny's. The only other time I experienced the same level of stalking and harassment as I did on 4chan was on 8ch /htg/ when anon discovered the James Alefantis instagram account & I went around warning newfags that Q Anon was a glowie attempt to split the investigation in half to take control of the narrative from the anons who found it and muddy the waters with disinfo.

It depends if you order it from Japan as opposed to paying full retail price in western countries. A pair of $150 jeans in Japan will cost $250-270 in the US/Europe due to import duties. If you order a pair from Japan, you’ll be spending around $150-250 for something that is undeniably way nicer than a pair of mall slop department store jeans, and you’ll have them for at least a few years depending on how hard you wear your jeans. To me, that’s not that much money for something that I’m actually going to get a lot of use out of and that I’m going to thoroughly enjoy more than a piece of crap pair of jeans. However, I can also understand that spending $150-250 for jeans is a complete and total luxury that is unnecessary. This stuff won’t make you more stylish. It’s really just a hobby for people who already like this stuff

i was one of the first english speakers who started talking about denim on the internet and i started the denim general on here.
i bought these jeans all the way back in high school, pretty drippy for a kid in 2005. i have better fits but its a little nostalgic because i've been fading them off-and-on for so long.
a lot of the posts that look like me spamming are actually the other guy just copy and pasting my posts from the archives to try to confuse people and make it look like i'm spamming.

i think most grown adults who care about their appearance are used to spending about $150-300 for a pair of pants.
if it's your first time stepping outside of fast fashion, i would say that japanese jeans are a safe bet for something you will enjoy and get your money's worth from. they're the most popular men's pants that exist and versatile.

>>18493936
agree other than the progress photos part. its nice that you can look up a pair of jeans and get an idea what they're going to look like a year or two later. and it keeps the denim communities active.

>>18494045
totally. american made jeans with jap denim are great as well.

>>18493890
bespoke ones are easily worth $800++
but you are right it would be hard to justify ready to wear.
it's a weird thing to complain about though. high end japanese jeans are one of the least overpriced things in the entire fashion industry.
and the guy buying $800 pants doesn't care how much his clothes cost to make. people buy overpriced crap all the time the entire luxury, designer, watch and jewelry industries are built off of this.
you're not the audience so nobody really cares what you think. i don't say that to be rude i'm not the market for that stuff either.

True schizo behavior is believing that everyone that talks back to you is the same guy. The reality is, every individual I this thread hates you because you're annoying, antagonistic, disruptive, and repetitive. You have nothing to ever contribute but the same two words and when confronted you shy away and call them schizo. We've all seen the picture, we all know you're an underage twinky pajeet that owns no perfumes beyond what your mom buys you. You're dismissive attitude is a coping mechanism. You have nothing and you're ashamed of who you are. A word of advice, don't rape your grandmother because you can't get a white woman, I know you're prone to that, but have a few morals at least.

I own the Freewheelers 1947 like >>18494451 said. They are a very great, straightforward pair of jeans. However, they are one of those really niche brands that only restock once a year and they are currently all out of stock. If you want something solid with a great cut and a relatively affordable price, go with some TCB 50s. If you want something heavier and durable but still comfortable, go with Iron Heart 634 in their 21 oz. Overall, the TCB 50s will look more versatile and timeless as they are a reproduction of a vintage 501 cut and the denim is mid weight with no modern gimmicks. However, the Iron Hearts really do capture the peak of Japanese innovation with denim and arguably capture some of the true essence of what makes Japanese denim great. If you have questions about sizing feel free to ask away

The Iron Heart 634 fits relatively slim. For Studio D’artisan SD-101 is pretty good. I have no experience with Momotaro, but I always hear they take forever to fade if that’s a dealbreaker for you. Other honorable mentions are:
>Warehouse 1001xx or Sugarcane 1947 for very straightforward 1947 repro cut
>Fullcount 1101w for 1947 inspired cut using Zimbabwean cotton for extra comfort and softness
>Samurai s510 for 1960s repro cut using heavily textured denim for sicker fades

get some vintage wranglers/mavericks. don't even cost much more than new ones. hardware and details are nicer, way more fit choices and better fits overall, and you get a real leather patch. fabric's the same thing but with better qual cotton doubt you'll notice but it was usa grown.
only real disadvantage is you can't always get them exactly when you want, sometimes you have to f5 ebay poshmark etsy and the likes for a month or two to find the right size and cut.

You don't even get any fades to speak of when you keep buying new pants. I have one entry level pair of repros and I bet they look better than any of those $400 meme pants because they actually get worn.

i think the best rotation is 1 pair of raws if less active lifestyle, 2 switching off every day if you're a tradie.
and not totally wearing them to the bone, when they're like 70-80% done retire them to occasional wear.
then just rotate the raw(s) you're actively fading with your already faded jeans so you're not denim dan the selvedge man every day.

pbj and iron heart do low waist sizes. and its very easy to find vintage selvedge for low waist sizes like that. other options would be getting 27"s with an alteration (cleaner fit) or back cinch (slouchier fit.)

it was supposed to be a downscale wrangler product line but it wound up being basically the same quality. yeah it's the 70's version of rustler with a hint of orange tab basically. rustler kind of had its own distinctly 80s look while maverick was basically wrangler with an M instead of a W.

There was also Blue Bell too, worth searching when hunting for vintage.
I would also recommend looking into all the mid century jc penney, sears etc brands. They vary in quality and how much $$ they command, but there's some seriously good value gems for pennies because these brands just don't have the hype of the big 3. Quality of the better lines is way above Levi's was back then imo.
Foremost, Hercules, and pretty much anything with the word "Big" in the name are examples of good ones. There's a ton of these brands go look at the catalog scans sometime.

had some momotaros for a while i gained too much weight to keep wearing. two thoughts:
1. the stitching of the button fly just absolutely blew apart on me. they got super frayed and blown out really quickly. i was very disappointed. i had to reinforce the buttonholes several times which i did by hand it was annoying and tedious. never had any other pair of jeans with a button fly do that, just the momotaros
2. they take forever to fade. if that matters to you. if you're buying nice japanese selvedge, it probably does matter to you. but they were by far the slowest faders of any of the jeans i've owned
