Bought Toskovat Inexcusable Evil 2 ml sample. Guess it was grossly overhyped by impressionable shut-in /fa/ggots or house's weird edgy marketing and i was expecting something like Laphroaig 10 from the world of perfume, but it smells nowhere like it was described. still talked about here and there as either ultimate dark tragedy esque perfume with some brutal feel of concrete gunpowder you would feel on wounded ww1 vet in a war hospital and blood or unbeareble horror scent that persists forever but irl it's nowhere near either of two and doesn't even wears for long. it's okayish kind of medical soapish church scent with metal and iodine hint. laphroiag whiskey (i suppose you know it if you mentioned it) however delivers these smells of smoke, kreosote and iodine exactly on point, i very much feel like hero from Remark novels drinking it.

I’ve done it one (1) time for vintage bottles of PRPH, APH, and The Dreamer, and it’s not worth the effort. Even if you get a genuine bottle, you have no way to know how well it was stored. Not to mention you’re pulling supply from an ever dwindling resource that will never be returned. It’s just not worth it imo.

>>18493980
Honestly, no, I really haven’t seen anything recently. The closest thing to interesting would perhaps be the re-release of Tsar, depending on your interests.

I’ve been kind of holding out hope Chanel is going to release some new masculine fragrance in the next month or two, but that also probably doesn’t qualify as interesting for many people.

I tested 4 fragrances today right after my classes.

>Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka
This one's a bit disappointing. There's unmistakable coca-cola quality but it has that vanilla notes all over the place. The drydown has a weird moisturizer-like scent. Leans a bit more feminine for me.

>Jo Malone Hinoki and Cedarwood
Absolute beast. The notes on fragrantica is a bit secretive but to me it smells resinous more than woody, a bit sweet, and creamy and powdery drydown. IT's masculine-leaning. Oh, and it's perfect for romantic nights.

>YSL Y EDP Intense
I'm devastated that I chose to buy YSL Y EDP over this. It's less fruity, more dark. Reminds me of lalique encre noire in its drydown. If you like sniffing markers like me this is perfect. A more grown-up version of Y EDP.

>YSL MYSLF EDP
This one's a letdown for me. It does smell good, but it's lacking something in its early stages. It's just citrus, neroli, and patchouli. Maybe hints of ylang-ylang. I honestly don't get the hype, in Tiktok this was all over the place and lots of reviews say it smells elegant. Not for me, it just smells...good. That's it. The drydown is interesting though, it becomes similar to Libre.

I was looking for L’Absolu, but they don't have it yet unfortunately.

Are perfume people retarded? They claim to be able to pick out a bunch of individual notes from a perfume but can't tell when two fragrances CLEARLY don't smell even remotely similar. Fellas,

I need some help here. So last Friday I picked up some picrel.
Sprayed it when I got home from work, two on wrist, one on neck, went out for a dinner party and felt like I could smell it the entire time, could even smell it next morning.
Now for the last few days, I feel like I lose the scent within an hour, I understand that nose blindness is a thing but I've asked people within 4 hours of wearing it if they can tell I've got perfume on, and it's a no.
What could be causing this? Only thing different from the first time is I guess I hadn't showered before putting it on, whereas all other times are right out of the shower, is that somehow making it absorbed in my skin? I use a fairly light moisturiser too but still no dice, do I need to use a proper body lotion to be moisturised enough to make it stick?

Genuinely scratching my head over this.

Finally something I can answer with 100% certainty. I studied dermatology for a while and one topic that frequently came up during my studies was how the skin can absorb certain types of chemicals and how soaps and other common substances can affect the skins natural barrier. It sounds bizarre but fragrances last longer on unclean skin. Have you ever noticed that the most unclean types always reek of fragrances the strongest? Having the fragrance sit unabsorbed on pulse points that are both warm and unable to “remove” the fragrance works wonders for projection. If you still want to clean yourself but retain the same effect, rub olive oil on your neck and wrists until it can’t be absorbed anymore and lingers on the skin, then gently wipe it off and spray your fragrance on

I think we’re seeing a big shift in the industry again at the same way it happened during the 1900s, when Perfumery got democratized by the introduction of synthetic molecules and everyone could start affording fragrances. Nowadays the exact opposite is happening where (good) fragrances are starting to become ultra luxury items again. He’s hated for it because he does it most blatantly and is also an eccentric gay British man dressing like dandies of centuries past, and that’s just easy to hate, but he’s just part of a bigger movement. Every luxury brand has started adopting his pricing model. You can’t convince me that something like imagination or ombré nomade isn’t just an even more radical scam than Roger’s fragrances, who despite being extremely overpriced are still well-made.

you say their brand new 300$ perfume line is overrated? unbelievable, surely this could not be the case. next you'll tell me that they forced Hermes to beg France to include them on the list of French cultural heritage because it was the only way to not be bought out and forced to make nothing but sweatshop logo t-shirts forever

So I just worked my way through these samples I got last week.

Chanel Bleu EDT
Dior Homme 2011
Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental
Prada L'homme 5m
Serge Lutens Borneo 1834
Serge Lutens Chergui
YSL M7
Amouage Royal Tobacco
Amouage Interlude Black Iris
Amouage Interlude Man
JPG Le Male EDT
Serge Lutens MKK Vintage

Out of all of them DH 2011 is naturally the clear standout. I have a full bottle of the current formulation which I really love but the 2011 is just leagues above it, real shame they changed it. Will likely buy full bottles of the Intense and Parfum at some point as it's just so good. My initial reaction to Le Male when I sprayed it for the first time was that it smelled like toothpaste and I thought I wouldn't go back to it but honestly after wearing it, it's pretty addicting and I may end up making it my go-to fresh/blue bottle, since it's also available for pretty cheap. All of the Serge Lutens were great, Vetiver Oriental was my favourite for sure, followed by Chergui which I found very cozy and nostalgic. Borneo and MKK were both excellent as well but I don't think I would ever wear them as part of an outfit, they will probably just be something I spray on my hand once in a while to enjoy. L'homme was also nice enough to make me debate on a full bottle but in the end I found it too clean and sterile for my tastes. I'll probably use up the sample but I won't refill it. M7 was alright and I'll revisit it in the winter but I'm certain there are just better ouds out there, but this one isn't it. The Amouages I was very curious about and if I was looking for an very high quality resinous/amber I would be thrilled, but these aren't to my tastes. I could see using Black Iris in a more formal setting in cooler weather as it is a very regal scent but the other two are something you'd need to be a big amber enjoyer to use frequently. Bleu is Bleu, idk what to say about it. It smells like Chanel but Platinum Egoiste is just better.

I once saw a chemist and perfume fan post about how Roja's Enigma Pour Homme's cola smell is actually a mistake and the result of mixing two different chemicals together that are known to degrade or devolve into a Dr. Pepper or cola type smell. Does anyone know anything about this? It was kinda interesting to me.

I once mixed anise essence with my Byredo Gypsy Water and it smelled 99% close to root beer. Probably something to do with anethole but I don't see licorce family notes in there so idk.

>Provide your age range.
26-27 closer in appearance (grooming, clothes, skin quality) to a 21-23yo
>Provide the season or climate you intend to wear the fragrance in.
going back to college in fall, typical daily variation is 0-15 to 15-30°C and pretty humid
>Provide your ideal price range for buying a recommended frag.
honestly, as cheap as possible
>Provide some details on what type of scent you are looking for (favorite notes and accords, hated notes and accords, etc.)
I don't like fresh/citrusy scents and those are all my brother and father have ever put on so I'm not really familiar with anything else
I'd definitely like something more mature, maybe slightly sweet
>Provide some details on your intended aesthetic and setting for wearing a scent (frag for school, the office, dates, casual daily wear, etc.)
casual daily, school too but ideally something versatile (at the cost of not being so specific, I suppose)
my aesthetic is eurostoner gaycel >vaguely hot-topic-ish graphic Ts
>loud, low volume local music group hoodies
>athleisure
>windbreakers
>AM90s
>adidas fanny pack over the shoulder

Ex Idolo's Thirty Three is a pretty solid oud/rose. Also has a reputation for still containing "real" oud but that might just be marketing hogwash. Most "real" oud these days is a subpar product of super young agarwood trees cultivated in Cambodia en masse
