>>18496470word to the wise, arabic clone freshie, might be nuclear but it'll last at least a few hours
>>18496459Chanel, Dior, Hermes are all around 125-150 with a select few going up to 250. Chanel once said that she would invest all money in the juice, making it inimitable because of the price. Tom ford is around 100, as is byredo. Creed and Xerjoff are 150-200. Creed puts particular importance on making the concentrate as inexpensive as possible. Their batch variation (some batches being smokier, more pineapple forward etc) comes from the fact they constantly give out contracts to the compounders that can do it for the lowest price.
The most expensive materials for creed and Xerjoff are usually the Capua EOs. Boclet and Piguet I don’t know exactly, but I would reckon that they sit in the higher bracket of pricing. In regards to the smaller brands, it would be pure guesswork for me to assume any prices.
Guerlain on the other hand, has always sat at the upper bracket. For a select few I would guess the price goes up as far as 300/L.
>>18496478Whats your personal favorite frag in terms of
>history>scent>technical compositionCan be one that fits all, or several, one for each
>>18496478Fascinating, what about say Penhaligons or Maison Crivelli?
>>18496483I’ve always been quite fascinated by the history of 4711. Despite it being quite a simple fragrance it is nonetheless extremely important to the history of Perfumery, so much so that the word cologne derives from it. Not to mention that it has been worn by some of the greatest historical figures the world has ever seen.
In regards to scent and technical composition I would naturally say that I like my own creations the most, but since this is the Internet and I am not allowed to reveal my own works, I will have to default to a very well-known commercial fragrance, or more specifically a collection of fragrances. The desert gems from Frederic Malle. In my eyes they are the best westernized interpretation of oud fragrances in that they are both very multifaceted and inexpensive, and yet so complex from an olfactory standpoint
>>18496486It depends on the collection but penhaligons is very middle of the road when it concerns bulk pricing, I’m not allowed to divulge anything on the other one.
>>18496478Neat, thanks.
Do more expensive ingredients even smell better, or are they different, easier to work with or what have you, but not any better or worse?
>>18496486>Maison Crivelliprobably on the lower end of the spectrum as it's a slop house posing as niche
i just sprayed sauvage elixir and now women are keep asking to have sex with me
>>18496502many such cases
>>18496502Can I have sex with you?
>>18496496I'm a bit worried for them in a long run. I have a bit of an emotional attachment to the house since they were the first frag I got and my grandfather used to wear Blenheim Bouquet as his signature.
Ever since getting bought out by PUIG it feels like they lost their way; all they've released the past 5-6 years have been one middle eastern spice bomb after another and when they do try to do something different they're halfhearted flops.
>>18496495What is your view on Ambroxan? Is it the devil incarnate or does it get undue hate? Personally I don't think haters dislike Ambroxan specifically but the common profiles it's associated with like gourmands and ambers. I myself dislike scents that overstay their welcome so I put Ambrox in the same category as vanilla. I feel they lose the plot of the base and heart notes to become inconsequential just to satisfy incessant demands for eternal longevity.

>>18496241>how do you guys hold back on spending hundreds of dollors on frags? Why would I hold back?
>>18496452 (OP)A fragrance won't fix your appearance or your personality
>>18496463why prissana specifically, and not prin? he puts his expensive ingredients in prin frags, not prissana. i reckon the first version of aksum is the most expensive, in fact he can't put a price on it because the aged oud (the main ingredient) was gifted to him
>>18496495you should be wise enough that 4711 stole valor from farina
>>18496531you should try tabac tabou
>>18496545Yeah but they dont smell right in the winter either
I think Im becoming of the opinion that only deoderant and a few select fragrances truly work for summer
>>18496517Unfortunately, a lot of fragrance houses that are slowly declining in value and market share start embracing the latest trends believing that they can get a slice of the pie, not realizing that they are abandoning all their uniqueness and market identity in the progress. It has happened time and time again.
>>18496526Ambroxan in its many forms is bordering on omnipresence. It’s material that you can find in almost every commercial formula available, ranging from technical to fine fragrance. It’s an excellent fixative and base note, and the only reason it is even mentioned so often is because of terminology like “ambroxan bombs”. It’s not a bad molecule, neither is vanillin. The only reason people tend to dislike these molecules is because of their age, with vanillin being synthesized in the 1800s and ambroxan in 1950. If you would like one molecule to rag on, go with Ethyl Maltol, as it is singlehandedly responsible for creating the gourmand category of scents.
>>18496552>get into fragrances>start showering even when I don't need to so I have a blank canvas for scents>start progressively dressing better to match my fragrances>find more and more opportunities to be out socializing just to wear more of my collection>have another topic of conversation and people think I have another interesting hobby>ego boost from knowing more than the average person about perfumes>learn about more about luxury brands, business, chemistry, perfumery, labor, geography, and ingredient production>my mood has improved and my job is getting better>more great things on the horizon all because of smelly waterTLDR: you're doing it wrong
>>18496557>Ethyl Maltol>a common flavourant in some confectioneries>It is a white solid with a sweet smell that can be described as caramelized sugar or as caramelized fruit.>Ethyl maltol is often used in perfumery to create gourmand scents.I was right!
>>18491480
>>18496557Fair point although therein lies the conundrum. Penhaligons by modern design is very reserved and traditionalist English; they have tended to let others pursue avant garde concepts and refine the motifs into something more suiting their style which is more skin close and tactful compared to say an arabic clone house.
And its not like they havent tried to lean into the British identity, but those that have whether its their Belgravia Chypre (Fredric Malle Portrait of a Lady dupe) or Roaring Radcliffe (Better TF Tobacco Vanille with rum) have been discontinued. They just keep leaning into those middle eastern spicebombs because they seem to sell but all their English minded scents are done halfheartedly.

What fragrances do you like smelling on women? I've smelled a lot of things but haven't smelled many feminine fragrances and it's harder for me to figure out what I might actually find interesting. Some that I've tried that I liked are Salome, Mitsouko, Bal a Versailles and Opium. I'm not looking to wear them I just want to sample things outside of my wheelhouse.

>>18496826He's right you know. Orpur exists solely for Givaudan to profit from new brands in their attempt to legitimize themselves just like they bring in some "big name" perfumer. You will never in a million years differentiate between a note labeled oupur and one that isn't. You don't even know the quantity it's in. If the reason you're buying is the label and the perfumer you're just a victim to marketing and shills. Don't forget that to make those 10 notes they advertise they need to use hundreds of individual ingredients. 4 of them having a made up certification is literally a drop in the bucket.
>>18496785People ask me if they should buy an "Arab clone" of a fragrance they like, or why they smell the same perfume everywhere because they trust me and they know I'll have an answer for them. That's just normal human conversation and interaction. I hope one day you too are seen with respect and admiration by your peers.

>>18496498The quality of a fragrance is always the sum of the quality of the molecules. I could go on about isomers etc, but instead I’ll leave it at this: the better a material, the greater the purity and the easier it is to achieve the desired effects without a ton of modifiers etc
>>18496531Ambre Russe and Cuir Ottoman are my least favorite from them and they're the ones I hear about the most. My favorites are Azemour, a really natural citrus oak moss, and Fougere Bengal, which is like honied immortelle and hay

>>18497027I didn't like 1740 at all but it was really early in my frag testing, so maybe my tastes changed because I saw it was somewhat similar to bengale.
Yeah they're kind of mid, but I had an obsession with HdP after trying Azemour. Just like a sweet dried fruit kinda waxy smell, but Aziyade has cumin or whatever.
As far as la cri, I just had no idea when it was appropriate to wear. Too waxy. for the heat with the iris and too piercing with that raspberry rose for the cold
>>18497027I was out of the country for a few years and haven't tried the new ones yet. What do you think of bel amour?
>>18497041i like it a lot, it's really summer in a bottle in a very good way, it also performs really well on my skin
>>18497034>1740it's a pretty mature frag imo, give it another chance
>Le Criprobably spring-fall office/general wear for me, we'll see
>>18496982I was unimpressed by the Parfum or the Elixirs, but I have the original EdT which is nice, but I have two flankers that I think are both actually excellent and much better than the current shit:
1) In the Navy: is a mint aquatic with vanilla backing. It was gone in like 3 months in like 2018. No one talked about it, but it's Natalie Cetto and Quentin Bisch before he became famous. It's good and clean and works well in the heat.
2) Airlines: MFK himself came back to do a spice + vanilla and this is much better than the Parfum. They're trying to do the same thing, but this one is much less cloying and ends up being an incredibly smooth vanilla amber. It's like getting MFK grand soir for $50.

Knize Ten came in today. I like it. I haven't really tried any leathers except the Tom Ford ones so I didn't really know what to expect from something like this. I got a lot of sharp, bitter greens and herbs off the top with a softening floral character. Parts of it reminded me of Versace L'Homme, but with that bitter greenness of Grey Flannel, though still with it's own uniqueness. There is a sort of motor-oil greasiness underneath it all but in a pleasant and quiet way. It's clean, but also a little dirty, and warm. It changes from one sniff to the next, which I have personally noticed is characteristic of castoreum notes. Very very good fragrance that I'm excited to wear.
>>18497385Oh, I also wanted to mention that the bottle of knize also is reminiscent of the bottle for L'homme, though it's probably a coincidence. They do share a lot of notes though.

Musky wife who sleeps with the gardener. Or your friend’s mom who drunkenly makes a pass at you. Idk why you guys love this so much. Still nice though.
>>18497755High quality scents, some pretty wearable, and some too out there for anything but an open air swingers party.
>>18497751That's probably it. I find anything with amber listed as a note sickening. Doesn't matter if it's Axe, Afnan, or even Baccarat Rouge 540.
Anything really sweet with amber (vanilla, benzoin, and labdanum) as noxious as hell and smells like a school locker room.
>>18497755amateurish pretentious overrated gothic sloppa

>>18497762There's two types of amber accords that I notice, the first one is the soft, luxurious one like the ones they use in some grand soir, orchid leather and some older arabslops. The one in BR 540 and black afgano has a dry dusty quality, like breathing in an old varnished room. I dont particularly hate it but it overpowers some other notes for me when I smell it.

3 feels like Terre d' Hermes but I think you have high school taste so it's probably not that. Maybe another Loewe so one of those overpriced LV frags. (BTW all of them should be $60.They are not worth $350+. Only basketballs stars buy those because they don't have to think about money anymore.)
4 Feels like something from Bond 9 or an Aventus absolu clone. Or maybe something from Loewe again lmao. I want to say aventus-esque because of the blackcurrant, but there's no pineapple, so i'll say the green Loewe bottle.
These are all light youthful freshies. I would recommend: Polo Red EdT (more complex than you think), Montagne Palisade / Mind-Games Blockade. H24 EdT. Parle Moi de Parfum - Wake Up World. TF Soleil Neige. Montblanc Individuel. Mustache EdP. John Varatos Artisan Pure. and Montblanc Legend Spirit.

>>18496453From that list, how many have had reformulations? Or to be more specific, reformulations that made the cologne ass. I used to have a couple on that list around 2019, so reformulations after that are what I'm asking. Thinking about rebuying the follwing (if still available):
>Spicebomb>Cool Water>Pure malt>Pure havane>D&G The One>Aqua di Gio Profumo>montbland individuelNot bought before, wanna try:
>L'air du desert morcain>Oud Wood
>>18497834>>Pure malt>>Pure havane
>>18497792>overpriced LV frags. (BTW all of them should be $60.They are not worth $350+. Only basketballs stars buy thoseReddit is full of people buying them, not as a status symbol but as a way for outcast to buy merit and belonging into the group. It's weird as fuck to spend money for the same exact bottle as everyone else, almost cultish.
I wish TF would release Oud Wood into their normal collection so the price would drop. It's a great scent but I'm not paying 250 for a 50ml (and considering the shit performance, 50ml probably isn't even enough)
>>18497853There are so many dupes of it by now, just pick the best one and be happy, even if it's not 100% perfect.
>>18497834The only two out of the first list that are legitimately worth having for actual use are AdG Profumo and Individuel. Both great colognes for people to actually wear. Not just wild smells to owns. The One is actually very nice too, but it's quite limited as a sensual smell. Pure Malt / Havane are long discontinued, but this cheapie is very close to pure malt and smells amazing:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LNP1W1V
L'Air du Desert Morocain is another art piece of a fragrance. Dry, dusty and spiced. It's a niche verson of the spicebomb you want up top with more layers of spice and a more interesting blend. Oud Wood is a designer-ish clean oud. It strips out all of the funk of oud to leave a very clean corporate oud smell with something like fig in the back. The guy from American Psycho would wear this because it's the "right" think to wear, but it's actually a great smell (although you're paying the TF premium; get a 5ml decant at scentsplit or perfuum for $30 and consider it bought).
>>18497875What's the best one? I don't want something close, I want something that really does smell like OW
>>18497821This is Jazz Club isn't it?
Other variations:
Nasomotto - Baraonda: Realistic smooth whiskey
Dior - Tobacolor: Dense rich tobacco and honey
Navitus - Xenial: Lighter fresher honey tobacco and whiskey
Navitus - Splendour Absolu: Light Rum, chocolate and driftwood (wood + oceanic salt)
I can easily recommend all of these, but they're all pricey.

>>18497758big note: if you smell anything at the mall you're smelling your frag + the last 30 that were sprayed in the air because no mall has enough exhaust.
Spray it on your own skin and then smell it again in fresh air. A lot of your descriptions don't make sense but may be due to contamination. TdH Vetiver is clean and earthy; there shouldn't be any salt smell. Habit Rouge is citrus forward with rose in the base so if you didn't smell it, that's wild.
>>18497607Retro hippie? I think this is patchouli territory. maybe with rose
My vote would go to Noir de Noir
>>18497897I don't really care what you think I just want a cheaper Oud Wood
>>18497925nta but the cheaper clones aren't that great. there's oud noir from versace i hear is decent, though i havent tried it. the clone is Woody Oud and i threw it in the trash and swore off dupes after this one.
better alternatives, in the sense they last longer, are Carved Oud and Kredo , but they're not cheap
>>18497937I mean if OW was beastmode I'd spend the money, but I don't spend money on frags with poor performance anymore because it's a complete waste. I want something that lasts. Might try the Nishane, why do Thameen bottles look so cheap though? The plastic cap is Zara-tier

I found a black afgano dupe that smells 95% to the original. They used vetiver and castoreum for the weed skunk effect.
>>18497983Are you going to tell us the name ?
>>18497965Cool Water is garbage now too, Anon. It lasts for maybe an hour and smells like Windex.
The classic 80's scents are all ruined due to reformulation. Drakkar Noir has basically no moss or patchouli anymore and smells like a bergamot soap after the dry down, and it lasts maybe an hour. Gone are the days of 3-4 sprays lasting 6 hours. Already mentioned Cool Water. Obsession and Eternity don't last past like two hours either.

>>18498020Azzaro pour Homme is safe... right??
>>18498033Maybe, but new batches of Chrome are significantly worse so I'm not sure.
At this point I'm usually buying clones and over spraying or reapplying. I'm fine buying Drakkar because Guy Laroche stuff is cheap enough at discounters. Azzaro isn't too bad either, but I can't imagine spending $150+ on something that's been ruined.

>>18498253>how do I stop buying samples?Samples are a straight up scam. They only made sense when you could get an infinite number of them for free. Paying for samples is just throwing your money away even when they give you a discount on the bottle. There can also be variance from sample to bottle so you can easily be misguided into a purchase. When you finish a sample you are left with nothing but missing money. Even if you get a bottle you don't like at least you are left with an actual bottle you can sell, gift, save, collect, or just experiment with. Of course blind buying is daunting and can go terribly if you don't learn from your mistakes. The early stages of experiencing perfumes are the hardest, you really need to hone into what you like and don't like so you can eyeball the notes, accords, gender, perfumer, etc.., and have a good idea what to expect. It's not perfect and it takes time but I find it a better experience and less of a gamble than samples. Everyone is different of course, and 2ml might be enough for some but it's not enough for me to make up my mind. I can get an impression from smelling something once but I don't get an accurate picture until I have worn something at least a couple times on different occasions. I have regretted all my blunders with samples but I have never regretted a single blunder with a bottle.
P.S. Spraying on paper is BS too, skin or bust.

Do I need anything more, politically speaking?
Does anyone love smelling the cap of the fragrance but hate wearing it? Can someone explain why this happens
Turathi blue
in the opening it smells like ultra cheap lemon flavored cleaning liquid. Very chemical. Also nauseatingly sweet. Somewhat like Invictus or Phantom but not really.
Then it becomes lemon/grapefruit + blue fragrance (I definitely see the comparison with Bleu de Chanel). It becomes more musky and even somewhat ambery. Definitely loses the initial impression of lemon scented window cleaner.
It focuses on the facets of citrus zest I think.
It tries to be sexy and enticing with its profile, the blue accord.
Also tries to capture an elegant and sharp look.
Still, it's pretty universal. Great gym scent, and also good for dumb reach or homely use.
It smells pleasant but also very cheap unfortunately. Very synthetic.
Let's see if it improves after I let it masturbate for a couple weeks.
Still, I'd say it's worth it for the price.
PS: dunno if it smells like tygar, never tried that one, but supposedly not at all, it's just in the same family
>>18498526So basically, it's better to 'rent' than to sample?
>>18498343Boss Bottled is an easy one all year even winter. Light enjoyable with a sweet woody touch that works well in the cold with the apple and plum notes.
other options:
Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EdP is an incredible frag. You can choose the Intense for a spicy/lighter or the Extreme for a heavier/powderier version.
Pour un Homme de Caron le Parfum works all year round but it's THICK with lavender and vanilla so it's great for winter.
Mancera Cedrat Boise is a loud Aventus variant that focuses 100% on wood and citrus and works great in the cold
Rouge Derviche II is musky and sweet which is crazy in summer but great in the fall/winter
Terre D' Hermes EdP Intense came out recently and is one of my favorites for colder times and easy to try at the mall.

>>18498706Yeah, modern compositions are very top heavy because they need to make the sale on the first sniff. I prefer vintage perfumes where you might have to suffer through some rough parts but I find the base notes more interesting and unique. asked both ChatGPT and Gemini, for recs for my grandma's 100th birthday party. Location will be a humid, "almost by the coast" little town, in mid August (temp will be around 95 F/33 C, humidity around 70%).
Only caveats I put were 'no marines nor gourmands' and that it could designer slop easily tested in any Sephora and the like.
Both recommended Terre d'Hermes Eau Grivee as number one.
Gemini rec'd Dior Homme Cologne and CAH ed Blanche for citrus, Guerlain Vetiver and TF Grey Vetiver for green freshies, and Prada L'Homme and BdC edp for pure slop. (BdC won't last even 30 minutes in that weather)
ChatGPT went both more mechanical and out there in its recs (still designer only): Guerlain Vetiver, Bvlgari Eau Perfumee au The Vert, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Prada L'Homme, Bvlgari Man Wood Neroli, Voyage D'Hermes, Agua de Loewe, Dunhill Icon (wut), Montblanc Starwalker, Hermes Eau de Citron Noir, AdP Colonia
I'm amused it recommended Pour Monsieur, but not Eau Sauvage. Or how Gpt seems to love Hermes and Bvlgari.
Of my own little collection, I was between platinum Egoiste and Vetiver
Anon, what would you wear for your granny's 100th birthday?
>>18498851Voyage d'Hermes is a very underrated frag and imo leagues above TDH and flankers. Also surprised DHS 2021 was not mentioned.

>>18498856Hermes is interesting in general. As one anon said some weeks ago, it is the only designer that is not blind-buy safe. I liked the original TdH, but didnt like H24 and its flankers. Haven't smelled the others.
>surprised DHS 2021 was not mentionedI guess Gemini tossed it up between that and Dior Homme Cologne. Based on how the citrus evolves, in my opinion CAH ed Blanche > DHS = CAHS Cologne > DHC. The middle of DHC reminds me way too much of a citrus dish soap. I used to hate CAH ed Blanche, but now I can smell all the details; maybe that will happen with DHC.
> Oud Satin Mood ExtraitThat will sure leave an impression. Oud still filters me sadly.
>>18498865>it is the only designer that is not blind-buy safeGucci isn't either imo. All designers have some frags that aren't mass pleasing, even Chanel and Dior
>CAH ed BlancheWhat about CAHSEE? Too gourmand? I mean you can't go wrong with any of them anyway.
>Oud still filters meIn general? Some ouds are pretty safe and clean
>>18498827None of those, other than deodorant, should last more than a couple minutes after you leave the shower and deodorant doesn't project unless you raise your arms. So it's not a big deal.

>>18498894He asked what YOU would wear, not what your granny would wear
>>18498872Haven't smelled Gucci except Guilty Absolute. I agree with a lot of people, I like it, but no idea where/when I would use it.
It gives me a situational vibe similar to Antaeus and Fahrenheit, which I assume aren't the mass appealing frags from Chanel and Dior (not counting their private lines). For those, though, I wonder how much is due to being a product of their time (like Kouros for example)
> what about CAHSEE? Too gourmand?EE is actually on the border of what I can tolerate on sweetness, and at least for me, it doesn't get too cloying even in hot humid weather.
About Ouds, I've only tested TF Oud wood, Alexandria II and Guerlain oud essentiel. The weirdest one was the Guerlain. I live in a hot and humid area (hotter and more humid than my grandma's hometown), and I find them too intense, in your face, 'weird', even oud wood, the safest of those.
Again, may be part of the journey. I only started wearing perfume 1 year ago. Before that, I couldn't get near the perfume section at a Macy's without feeling overwhelmed by all the 'chemicals' in the air.
>>18498894Maybe my grandpa wore something like that. (I bet it was just Old Spice or Brut)
>>18498341So some skin moisturizer and then put perfume on where I put it? I heard about using vaseline but will it really last that much longer?
3 Extrait de Parfums coming out this year from Parfums de Marly. $500 for 100ml.

>>18498913Looks like cheap/tacky Arab designs. Maybe they'll look better in person idk.
>>18498913We need to go further with the perfumeflation
2000$ bottles and horrible clones should be all that exist, no in between
We must accelerate so the market can reset
>>18498913I could not care less
>>18498930boadicea the victorious already exist. such meh frags for 1k+
ugly bottle too
>>18498865>Hermes is interesting in generalMight have something to do with the fact that they are independent instead of part of a conglomerate
>>18498948Clive Christian is another one like that
>>18498913Can't wait for the arab clones,All the PDM that I've tried don't smell bad, but they smell like a normal designer or something you'd find in an Avon catalogue.
>>18498949technically Chanel is also privately owned, but they have put out the safest and blandest crowd pleasers scents for almost 3 decades now
>>18498913>extraitmeaningless, you can literally just dump unscented oils in and say its le hecking 69% perfume oil.
>>18498307I actually just faced this quandary last week. I kind of wanted to wear something like Iron Duke or Tonnerre to fit the theme. Decided against it because it’s hot af here, and knew it would prob be warm inside the venue as well. Was originally leaning toward Missoni Wave but ended up going with Ganymede because my GF loves it and she went with me.
>>18498894>>18498903>I bet it was just Old Spice or BrutThere are probably some similarities. Escada does start with a surprising fresh and clean opening because of the citrus and lavender similar to Brut, it also has that really grampa-ish combo of carnation and cinnamon like Old Spice. What sets it apart is the boozy "cognac" note that permeates most of the fragrance and how it settles into an amazing elegant patchouli-vanilla base. It starts pretty rough but it ends up being really classy and refined.
>>18498906If your skin is dry the perfume will evaporate faster, moisture will make the perfume adhere to the skin longer. I don't know how much longer but you should test it out. Moisturize one wrist and not the other then spray and see which lasts longer.
>>18498253>>18498526I don’t quite get the hate for samples some people have.
I don’t see it as throwing away money and being left with nothing, I see it as paying for an experience. I would liken it to trying a small sample of a very expensive food or viewing a painting in a gallery as opposed to buying it outright. Paying to see a movie in theaters, once, and then I’m good, I don’t need to buy the VHS/DVD/blue-ray and store in in my house if watching it once was enough.
I enjoy the variety, but don’t need to -own- all the variety I like to enjoy. Storing 100 bottles would be a considerable pain in the ass, let alone 1000, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to sniff 1000 different things.
>>18498654I’ve heard people say Fathom V (or maybe it was Acrasia? I can’t remember) is “bottled melancholy”.
Personally I don’t see it, at all, but maybe you’ll get that effect?
>>18498307People at concerts smell like humidity, body odor and leather so using those kinds of scents is redundant, If you want to stand out use something clean and fresh.
>>18498033APH has terrible longevity now, too. 3 hours max.
>>18498056It's really good. You should buy it.
>>18498956That's true, but they also don't pump out endless flankers like L'Oreal brands. Chanel hasn't had a new mainstream release in what, 7 years?
>>18499128>I see it as paying for an experience. That's understandable. I think the divide between sampling and blind buying stems from the experience/exploring vs hoarding/collectability mindset. While I can always rebuy a sample I find it more convenient having a bottle to revisit at my leisure. Other people might have had more positive experiences with samples than I have. While I have had some great experiences with a couple of niche houses I also had some terrible ones that made me feel like I've been scammed. The difference in quality between perfume companies is gigantic to the point I don't think some of these companies should even exist.
I reiterate however, samples used to be free, they still should be, and anybody who charges for samples is a stinking jew.
>>18498652thanks for the suggestions
>>18498461Well, it doesn't snow in winter where I live. I like the smell of Spice Bomb Extreme, on the fence about buying.
>>18497146snagged a full 30ml of this earlier this year. smell great
>>18499147Yeah. One thing I 'respect' about Chanel, even if their design philosophy for scents is too safe, and their reformulations are as money pinching as any other brand, they do not put out useless flankers.
The release of CAHS superleggera felt like testing the waters for that, but I have the feeling it was some kind of emergency formula that they had in case of inventory/supply issues.
Maybe it is the supply conditions that actually limit how big they could go, and are limited to just reformulations.
I'm surprised they have not tried to pull a LV with the prices and exclusivity.
I got an encre noire decant because you all hype it so much. This shit only lasts 30 minutes I swear to god. Becomes a very close skin scent after.
