The Globemaster is the single most disappointing watch I ever owned. Omega just fucked so many things up with it.

I absolutely loved the looks (I had a blue dial version), and the accuracy, the jumping hour complication. The lume lasted forever.

The problems were the proportions: the lugs were short but stuck straight out making the watch feel thicker than it was. The caseback showing a machine finished movement actually made it thicker than it needed to be.
It didn’t have a screw down crown. Why on earth not?

But the thing that killed it for me was the bracelet. That was the WORST bracelet I’ve ever experienced on any watch. Thick, heavy, non-tapering, sharp inner edges, absolutely no micro-adjustment or even any fucking half-links. Why?!

Another nitpick, that didn’t bother me much, but I wish it wasn’t there was the name. I know the story behind Globemaster but Constellation is one of Omega’s pillars. Call it the Constellation Classic or something if you want to differentiate it from the Connies that the Asian market loves. (Obviously just put Constellation on the dial, not Classic)

>Is the globemaster considered an expensive watch?
That depends entirely upon your discretionary spending budget.
It’s not cheap within the Omega catalog. The Rolex Datejust it is positioned against is a little more expensive.

The issue is that it is quite a bit more expensive than other similar Omega watches that have the same movement and similar features, vis-a-vis the Aqua Terra.

>>18512101
This is a fair assessment. I can only sort of agree with the bracelet part. The lack of micro adjust or half links is annoying but I have a bigger wrist and found a good spot. It can be a little loose sometimes but as soon as I start using my hands or go outside the wrist fills it up nicely. I don't feel the sharp edges you mentioned though.

To each his own I don't get the name hate. It doesn't actually mean anything to me beyond the story.

What's funny is this is the only style from Omega that I liked besides the heritage Seamaster 300.

Expense is a relative term. Relative to most watches the Globemaster is quite expensive. They've upped the MSRP to $8,300 but I got it for $7,900, which is probably $600 more than it should be. It is priced comparatively with the Rolex Explorer 40mm.

Wearing an old Seiko carries no more or less risk than any other old watch. The movement itself is quite simple and robust for an automatic integrated chronograph and most independent watchmakers can service it and replace parts as needed.
If I bought one and had it completely overhauled, I’d have no issue wearing it as a daily watch.

Hamilton Khaki Field was my first but I ended up losing it. It's best selling point was the features you could get for the money. Back when I bought one it was like $400 and you got 10 bar, sapphire crystal, and a good enough Swiss movement. It did magnetize really easy. At the current $800 is that watch still worth it? Not saying I wouldn't get one but a lot of that is branding and artificial scarcity for NPCs. If you are wearing a Rolex, and you aren't an old man, my first thought is you either paid scalp prices for it because you weren't deemed worthy by the store or I would wonder how hard you sucked the retailers dick to get it.

This really isn’t true anymore. It’s not 2022. The wait lists are just for a small handful of models now. (The ones you don’t want because they’re just for hype beasts anyway.)

I frequently come into contact with people who wear “luxury” watches and my findings concerning who wears which brand so far have been:

Rolex: people who don’t know anything about watches but they want to flash their money. They’re usually fine people who don’t mind they’re just paying for the name. If they have a collection it will be primarily mall shitters they overpaid for.

Omega: generally cool people and more interested in talking about watches than the other luxury watch owners.

Breitling: Asians and pajeets. They’re generally very stuck up, particularly the Asians and they both treat their belongings very poorly.

IWC: douchebag pilots generally. They’ve got their nose up their own asses.

Panerai: I’ve only met one Panerai owner and he was a bigger douche than the IWC guys. My sample size of one is inclusive.

Frédérique Constantin: businessman generally and generally very easy to get along with.

They're poor as fuck and they saved like years for it, and it's a shit watch that would be good if they just asked me what I wanted but now I have to wear it or it will be "I didn't eat for 2 years to get you this" and they're going to die soon and it's so fucked. The bezel insert is "gold capped", meaning it has a nice layer of sheet gold on top of regular metal.

In fact, there's a whole ranking in nationalities, you can mostly buy from Japaneses (when they sell in your area), Germans, Dutch....

Spanish always lie about where they got the watch and the condition of the watch.
And when they are buyers, they try to pay nothing for the watch, because they are broke as fuck. Horrible people all around.

About Italians, you have good ones, in Milan or in the north of Italy, and they actually have money and know what they are doing, but Italy is also known for counterfeit products, so you have a 50/50 chance that the seller is a crook who "found" the watch. Also, aways buy with box and papers if you want to avoid problems.

Depends. Some companies, like Omega, have different SKUs for the same watch but different straps. Other companies don’t change the model code based on the strap option. I don’t know what Sinn does.

If I was buying a watch on a strap and noticed that the full product code was for the bracelet model, then I’d know something was up.

The original Panerai was 47mm. The first modern dive watches in the 60s (Submariner, Seamaster 300, Fifty Fathoms, etc) were all between 40-42mm.

They made skindiver watches too once the fashion for dive watches was established, those were typically smaller but also less capable, sometimes being water resistant to only 50m.

This is a detail that’s been lost to time. The scene with the Submariner in “Goldfinger” is meant to illustrate Bond’s cockiness. Someone wearing a tuxedo would never wear a dive watch and a little detail like that could compromise his cover, but he doesn’t care. Bond’s nihilism has been part of the character from the start. Some of the films have parlayed that into cockiness bordering on sloppiness.
