I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1,000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Btw, I like to dissect girls. Did you know I'm utterly insane?

>uhh have you tried other things, like salicylic or azelaic acid. perhaps try lower concentration or something
i use drugstore cream that has allantoin + d-panthenol (you can feel how it softens your skin in 3 seconds) and then use a drugstore knockoff of lrp cicablast baume b5+ or whatever it was called. even my gf was surprised how good this combo is

sorry for late response. I've tried salicylic, glycolic, azelaic, anti-fungal ointments prescribed by doctor, retinal/nol (which is good for dealing with the spots that occur afterwards). honestly I don't know if my problems have been caused by shaving. it's probably fucking up my skin. I've only got problems in one cheek too. It's almost like perma redness in small patches and no matter what i do it itches and it's red.
If i shave with a razor, it's bad, if i shave with a hair trimmer, it's bad, if I don't shave it gets too long and irritates my skin even more than NOT shaving. benzoyl is the only product that have sort of worked. I just started using picrel, it works pretty well but it won't treat my main problems.

i've seen this site linked a lot. haven't used it myself. if i was you i would probably use the OTC adapalene 0.1%. not sure if that's also banned in EU, but probably easy to get through a legit dealer like amazon from US.

>>18515721
i was the same. it will come to you. your hormones will shift in your late 20's - early 30s and then it will happen fast. the skin damage you picked up in your youth will start to show because you'll lose fat in your face, thinning your skin. the deeper down discoloration will show, wrinkles will form, and scars will become more pronounced. a lot of people start balding during that too.

25 is a great age to start tretinoin and finasteride.

>>18515732
it takes time for your skin to adjust. you should wait at least 12 weeks to see results. if it's still flaky you may want to move to a lower strength. in the mean time use moisturizer, sunscreen, and stay hydrated.

it's ok if it pops while cleaning, the puss usually surfaces, so it's normal. the goal it avoid damaging the skin in the process, which means waiting for it to surface on its own or with very little assistance.

it's best to avoid getting any actives in the wound because they can cause damage to the skin resulting in scaring. cleansing and moisturizing is fine.

the pimple patch (hydrocolloid patch) will speed up healing. cleaning and sealing the wound will allow it to heal faster.
alternatively you can use an occlusive to seal and help speed up recovery e.g.

--- for the people without access, this is from my derm ---

SUNSCREEN

General Requirements:
- SPF 30 or higher
- Both UVA and UVB protection (broad spectrum)
- Water-resistant for outdoor water activities
- Daily facial moisturizers with SPF do not need to be water-resistant

SPF 30 if the generally accepted minimum protection and it will block approximately 97% of UV radiation if broad
spectrum. Higher SPFs are not necessary but are perfectly acceptable if preferred or if someone is especially sun sensitive
(medication, photosensitivity condition eg lupus). These higher SPFs will block progressively higher percentages of UV.
Higher SPF will not reduce the frequency of reapplication when out in the sun and it is recommended one reapplies every
2-3 hours on dry land and every hour when in the water.

Sunscreen Application when outdoors:
- Most apply an inadequate amount of sunscreen. It should be a liberal coating. 1 ounce (enough to fill a shot glass) is generally required to cover all exposed areas of skin.
- Apply to dry skin 15 minutes prior to sun exposure
- Be sure to include the ears, lips, neck, chest and back of hands as these are critical sun exposure areas that are often missed.
- Reapplication is essential. As above, every 2-3 hours.

Sunscreen Application when indoors and driving:
- It is important to use sunscreen when inside and driving as windows do not block UVA
Anonymous No.18522291 >>18522293
>>18522290
Types of Sunscreens:
- Physical/Mineral -- titanium, zinc and ferric oxide
- Chemical -- Avobenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, mexoryl, helioplex, others
Both types are excellent and provide good coverage. I find that the physical/Mineral sunscreens provide better, broad
spectrum protection as compared to chemical products, and are less irritating. Mineral sunscreens, however, tend to be
more whitish or opaque although some of the micronized versions have become more cosmetically elegant. Chemical
sunscreens have the advantage of been transparent and a little less messy. Individuals that have very sensitive skin, those
with skin allergies to products and younger children (2 and younger) should stick with physical/mineral sunscreens and
they tend to be gentler.

Recommended Sunscreens:
There are many good options that provide excellent protection and higher cost does not necessarily mean more
effective. Most brands make many different versions of their sunscreens, and the active ingredients are listed on
the packaging. These are a few I like but this is not an exhaustive list of all good products.

I'm learning slowly.

For now, just focused on rebuilding my skin barrier as much as possible in-between monthly microneedling sessions (at-home).
Took out tret and vit C out of my regimen, all exfoliants, and only use La Roche Posay gentle cleanser once a day, at night.

Current routine, morning:
>Wash face with lukewarm water
>Vichy 89 HA
>Moisturizer with B5
>Sunscreen

Night:
>La Roche Posay cleanser
>Vichy 89 HA
>Moisturizer with B5
>Cicaplast B5 Baume

Seems to be working alright so far. Haven't had irritation from any product in 2 weeks. Still thinking about when to add back in Tret, C, and use Lactic Acid after this Saturday's MN sesh.

toners can add in some moisture and ingredients, but are mostly blah, not really needed. i throw some on right after a shower, which seems to help retain moisture.

>Moisturizer with B5
B5 is a vitamin, not sure which moisturizer you're using.

i will say give it a few weeks after you think your skin is good to try to start adding back in other products. just because the skin barrier is thick enough to stop the hurting doesn't mean it's thick enough to handle actives being thrown at it.

you may not need a exfoliant at all. if your skin barrier is naturally thin it won't help you anyways. especially if you're already using tret. shaving is also physically exfoliating. i think a good rule of thumb for exfoliants is, if you're not sure or are worried about it, you don't need it.

that comes from clogged pores
usually tret would be the best option. are you sure you were using it correctly and giving enough time? it will take a few months of 4-6 days a week to start seeing results.

don't know your gender, but women can get them from hormones.

another thing, you could be having a reaction to a specific product you're using. for instance ILLIYOON Ceramide Ato Lotion breaks me out even though it's great for most people. just because something is noncomedogenic, doesn't mean it will be good for you specifically.
you can use https://incidecoder.com/ to try to sus out specific ingredients or just rotate through different products.

>Cicaplast B5 Baume
you might also want to back off occlusives for a couple of weeks to see if it clears up. unlikely, but possible.

if all else fails, you'll need to stop everything and start adding in things back in one at time.

efficacy of an ingredient comes down to concentration and formula/vehicle/ability to penetrate your skin (and probably a few more things). i prefer og vitamin c formula that was confirmed to work but there are obviously new formulas so you need to dyor to see if vitamin c in your all in one product does anything, or do they just smash that name on a package and add 0,000000001% of it (which means its for marketing only)

So how exactly are you supposed to shave without clogging the pipes? I use cartridges and shaving foam and rinse it under the tap. I shave frequently too so it's not like there's a bunch of thick hair that can form big hairballs, and I tried running hot water for a couple minutes after having to help clear up grease or whatever at the advice of some internet searches but that doesn't change anything. Do I really have to rinse it in a bowl or something? I admittedly haven't tried to before, but it feels like it won't rinse the blades as well as the tap
I'm at a loss but it's become a pretty big problem and using those chemical solutions to clear the pipes can't be good for long-term health

Common denominators across all three

1. Heavy use of silicones (Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, etc.)
These create an occlusive layer. Not inherently comedogenic, but on acne-prone or clog-prone skin they can trap sebum, bacteria, and sweat, worsening breakouts.
Especially relevant if you use other occlusive products underneath or don’t double-cleanse.
2. Film formers / polymers (Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer)
These give the β€œsmooth, blurring, gel-primer” feel. They can increase occlusion and contribute to clogged pores in some people.
3. Chemical UV filters (Octocrylene, Homosalate, Avobenzone, Octinoxate)
These are in all three except that EltaMD uses zinc as well.
Some people find Octocrylene and Homosalate irritating irritation can trigger acne-like breakouts.
Avobenzone is unstable unless well-stabilized; breakdown products may irritate sensitive skin.
4. Hydration + occlusion mix (hyaluronic acid + silicone)
Hyaluronic acid draws water in, but if combined with heavy occlusion and not balanced with exfoliation, it can make skin feel congested.

Likely culprits for your breakouts
Silicone-heavy bases + film formers trapping sweat/sebum.
Octocrylene/Homosalate/Avobenzone combo potential irritant breakouts.
Layering with other products (esp. rich moisturizers) may worsen pore clogging.
If you’re acne-prone, it’s often not one single β€œcomedogenic” ingredient but the overall occlusive, film-forming nature of these modern, invisible sunscreens.

First, stop using shaving foam, if you are afraid of using shaving soap you can start with good and cheap shaving cream like arko
Second, stop using cartridges and start learning how to shave with de razor, if you want something it take almost no skill and learning try something that set the shaving angle for you like Yaqi Tile (CNC 316 stainless steel, cheap but has better build than Henson made in China) or Henson al13 (expensive, made my cheap aluminum CNC made in leafland by leafs)

I currently wash my face with water in the morning and nothing else. In the evening, I clean my face with some Cerave hydrating cleanser in the shower, wait for my skin to dry, then apply some Cerave night time moisturizer before going to bed.
I'm thinking of getting their Resurfacing retinol serum to help with some leftover acne scars but I'm not sure what's the proper way of using it. Do I apply it before or after moisturizer and how many days between application when starting out?

apply it for 10 minutes before your moisturizer and make sure it's applied on dry skin

start with 2x/week application and see how it goes, if no peeling/redness then increase to 3x and so on, make it gradual

I'd try a moisturizer in the morning too after washing face, or at least a moisturizing sunscreen (aveeno brand is good and dries in 2 minutes with no white cast)

>Treat skin like shit as a teenager and young adult, basically picky as hell. Also had Trichotillomania targeting beard hairs on my face due to tons of unresolved mental issues, cheeks especially affected
>Be mid twenties now, getting untreated mental and physical health issues resolved
>Notice scarring showing up on my cheeks more and more, also had issues with ingrown beard hairs on my cheeks
>Decide to look into it
Alright, so I got the number one rule down as no more picking. What else can I do to preserve what skin I have left? I never really went outside so that worked in my favor but I also have terrible sleep so that probably deducts a few points too. I also have Seborrheic dermatitis which mainly affects my scalp but occasionally has outbreaks around my face too. I have that part generally under control, I've also cleaned up large portions of my diet and lost enough weight to get out of obesity too. It's just that I've been a compulsive picker for the longest time and it was only a few months ago that I finally started getting it back under control. What can I do to control the scarring and help preserve my skin? I don't expect any miracles by this point, but is there anything that I can still do now that could help in even a small way?

I should add that these look fairly mild, all things considered. They aren't really noticeable unless I bring a mirror up to my face. I mostly see icepick scars, with a few boxcar scars, but it is worrying to see them show up

depends on the type of scaring. to get rid of whiteheads you should try a chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid. Try CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser as the cleanser and if that doesn't work try Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant once or twice a week.
you need to be careful not to over do it though, because you can strip away your skin barrier and cause irritation and break outs. if you skin starts getting sensitive you should back off and give it time to heal.

for SPF, slightly but not by much.
you should also check for Protection Grade of UVA (PA) system if available
also if you're sweating, you should try to get something water resistant

SPF 15 blocks 93%
SPF 30 blocks 97%
SPF 50 blocks 98%
SPF 100 blocks 99%

PA+= Some UVA protection.
PA++=Moderate UVA protection.
PA+++= High UVA protection.
PA++++= Extremely High UVA protection.

up to you :) i used different ones depending on the condition of my skin
i will mention that one of those has salicylic acid which can cause problems if over used.

>icepick scars, with a few boxcar scars
these types of scars can't really be fixed without cosmetic procedures like subcision, lasers, microneedling. that can be fairly pricey because they're not typically covered by insurance, but consultations usually are. you'd have to ask your dermatologist.

adapalene 0.3% is the only topical i know has been proven to reduce scars. you should be able to get it through an online marketplace like amazon or goodrx. you could also just get from a derm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7x95CQaMA4

in general, you want to be on a retinoid, like adapalene, at your age because it provides a plethora of antiaging benefits.

i'd also rec getting on finasteride 1mg a day for hair loss prevention. you want to start before it begins.

repaired my skin barrier and getting ready to reintroduce C and tret, doing tret tonight

made me realize now I've also incorporated standalone hya in my routine and had to think about the order for a bit, so I decided to do hya after tret, and then apply the moisturizer a minute later

I think hya before tret makes little sense, since you need to wait 15-30 min for the tret to do its thing

not really. they can't be directly compared because they act differently in the skin.
probably safe to say for acne, OTC adapalene 0.1% is weaker than tretinoin 0.1%, but adapalene 0.3% is comparable. this would really be different person to person and vary on issue being targeted.

they're very similar, so not apples to oranges, but different. other retinoids may be effective at treating acne scars, but i'm not aware of studies proving it.

long story short i gave up and went with accutane, which obviously worked as expected

No idea if I bought to much this is for oily/acne skin care routine for morning and night. I bought a couple more things but maybe next time I'll cut down. I got another cleanser the Rochae posay foaming cleanser if the acne one is to harsh. And the cetaphil gentle clear cream cleanser. And a oil cleanser for the sunscreen which I would put in the night routine. I know the retinol is not something you use all the time either.
