Why did this meme become so popular? This trash takes a lot more time, cuts easily, requires more repositioning, doesn't shave as close as a good cartridge.

The only benefit is that it costs less, but that's only if you don't become one of these fags trying a hundred different soaps, brushes and so on

You get cut so much with a safety razor precisely because it cuts so close that if you're not careful you'll peel your skin off. And yes, it's not worth it. Even if you don't get any visible bloody cuts, you still get a ton of micro cuts with it, which is why it burns so much more when you shave with a safety razor. That piles up over the years and fucks your skin up, making it look rough, thick and leathery, like your shoe.

it shaves as good an "expensive" cartridge, which are, as was mentioned, highway robbery. You just have to develop the proper skills. Also, to be totally and completely honest, I cut myself at the same rate and exactly the same places than if I were using an "expensive" cartridge. I switched to an electric shaver years back, but I'm back to using these once in a while when I want to have a closer shave.

if you want the less traumatic experience as possible just

>use foam
>shower before your shave
>apply less pressure than you would with regular cartridges.

done. Also, they don't get dull as quickly as the normal ones.

I have been using a safety razor for the last year or so. Finding sharp blades was such a pain in the ass, i tried 2-3 different blades that have a reputation for being sharp and none of them worked for me. Eventually i found some sharp ones but i can only shave twice with them before they noticably dull and i start cutting myself more frequently.

No cartridge razor has ever given me a shave that close. I know the "muh skill issue" cliche is a - well - CLICHE - but it's true.
Good luck with your plastic, single-use garbage that costs you triple the price of a safety razor. It costs me a total of 30 dollars to shave for three years, and that includes the razor itself which is practically eternal unless your deliberately break it.

everything you listed is a skill issue ngl. i used to irritate myself on the daily with the stupid overpriced gilette fusion whatever razors from walmart. I get less irritation and nicks now, and I'd guess it's just because i have to apply less pressure with the blades on my face, and there's less blades running across my face overall. Generally it does take longer to shave, but not "a lot more". I'm willing to spare the extra 5 min to not get super irritated every time. as for cost, my whole setup (razor, 100 pack blades, boar brush, soap) was like $85 and now maybe $20-30 per year in soap and blades, so really you pay more up front and then save over time. I have no desire to ever go back to cartridge slop. maybe id still be using them if my face could handle the torture, but safety razors are just better for my skin.

The humble yellow BIC or bust imo. This single-bladed friend is the only thing I'll use, multiple blades give me ingrown hairs and other nonsense, and these are cheap as chips. I also only shave my upper cheeks and neck, so one of these lasts me a few weeks as I'm not grinding all the thick hair off my face, mustache, etc.

As I understand the single-black safety razor would be about the same (in terms of cheapness and good for sensitive skin) but I just don't see the justification in changing over. I been using my BICcies for years without err

I agree with everything else, but that's simply not true. It definitely gets a closer shave, assuming equal number of passes.
But closer shave = more likely to get cut. That's the tradeoff. It's an inescapable fact of life.
If a cartridge shaves close enough for you, then it's probably the better option, cuz you won't get cut as much. But for me, I prefer a super close shave, so I put up with getting cut now and then.

Some blade recommendations since I've had the same issue with blade dullness:
>Eddison
Good blades, dodgy QC (sometimes an entire packet is shot), made by kikes.
>Parker
Really good blades, less than average number per packet (5 instead of 10), lasts 6-7 shaves if dried correctly (I replace once a week).
>Derby Extra
Turkish, cheap AF, surprisingly OK QC (one bad blade in every 5 or 6 packets).
Dulls more slowly, though highly prone to rusting if not dried).

I usually alternate between the Parkers (very smooth) and the Derby's.

So... Are you saying that I shouldn't use any brush, or that I should use a boar? Because the way you wrote it, it sounds like you're shitting on all of them, but then you say grow thicker skin to endure boar stiffness.

You are retarded. I havent had to spend money on shaving in four years, and I have to shave quite often for work. It takes me five minutes to get a nice clean shave so you must be doing something very wrong. It takes a few weeks to get a hang of it, so maybe you should git gud before complaining.

exactly.. a cartridge razor will not get as close of a shave as a safety razor with even a half decent blade.

You can also buy a cheap plastic double edge safety razor. They're much easier to shave with because they're lightweight just like cartridge razors. Practice using it and then upgrade to a metal one if you feel like it.

Like with all double edge safety razors, you first need to get the angle right. But once you've got that down,, they're easier to handle because when using metal razors a lot of noobs end up pressing too hard because of their weight and cut themselves. But plastic DE razors feel a lot like cartridge razors ergonomically.

Please don't turn this preference into a reddit-tier "hobby"" like everyday carry.
Butterfly safety razors are a bit less safe but shave close because there is more razor blade edge protruding, then come closed comb safety razors, then open comb ones. No need to complicate it further.

This is literal kinder-egg-tier garbage which you can't even keep assembled. This could literally disassemble while shaving and cut your entire face off. I wish I never knew this disgrace existed, you take a proper metal safety razor that can last you several generations and enshittify it to a plastic throwaway doodad cartridge-razor-lookalike, the low quality of which is the prime reason people opt for safety razors.

People who use safety razors have irrational risk preferences. Because with a modern cartridge razor, you just never cut yourself in the course of shaving. Cartridge razors have like a 99.99% no-cut rate.

Safety razors, on the other hand *can* also have a high no-cut rate -- but only under ideal conditions. Running late for work? Just woke up? hungover? Distracting sounds from another room? All of these things can make you less attentive, even just for a moment -- and that's all it takes to angle it wrong and cut yourself.

Yes, I understand the cuts are small and stop hurting quickly. But they do hurt, and they do bleed. To a rational person, that risk is simply not worth the increased "closeness" (debatable) of the shave.

Yeah, if you drop them repeatedly they might bend or break, but this is not ordinary wear-and-tear. Don't do it and you will be fine. I had a butterfly safety razor I got for 7 dollars that lasted me 4 years and then I tossed it because I wanted a differently-shaped one, the previous one was still working fine.

I didn't say cartridges were difficult. They are easy. But it's basically impossible to get a close shave without fucking your face up. A safety razor can get a much cleaner shave with only one pass, with the grain.
