The quality of the image editing is garbage. The vetiver is the generic vetiver note image from fragrantica and the other materials look like they googled cinnamon sticks and picked a stock image. Rough Opening. Almost scrubbed it but glad I didnโ€™t. The first spray smells like a harsher, dirtier Bogart Oud but the dry down is fantastic. The leather, smoke and resinous notes to seem to bring to mind a tidy garage or workshop in the country.

Every time I read a review of Musc Ravageur I seriously question A) How often the shit from Malle gets reformulated, and more often B) That the vast majority of people just read the title of a fragrance and make shit up.
I got a decanted sample of Musc Ravageur from a legit, tiny family run store that sells high end clothes and what not, they still had bottles of original Synthetic Jungle and Bois d'Orage before it was changed to French Lover, anyway, Musc Ravageur is literally just a bottle of clean white musks. โ€œVERY horny fragranceโ€ is a crock of shit, and thereโ€™s nothing animalic about it.
Has it been reformulated since then? Maybe. But I see too many idiots call something with a listed โ€œAmberโ€ or โ€œAmbermaxโ€ note an โ€œambroxanโ€ fragrance. Pretty sure people just see the word musk and think animal secretions when most musks are clean musks now-a-days.

DecantX is pretty standard pricing unfortunately. I hate that they have so many outdated fragrance brands listed with nothing listed under their link, and several literal-who brands with nothing in stock and have been out of stock for yearsโ€ฆ but if you just want a decant of something main stream so you can test it on skin at your leisure, and donโ€™t want to be fucking bothered by mall sales reps being stingy bitches with samples, theyโ€™re okay. Iโ€™ve ordered a lot of decants from them.

I can also recommend decantboutique as they have a pretty wide selection of stuff thatโ€™s not offered elsewhere, a HUGE selection of what theyโ€™ll put your decant actually into (including roller balls, if youโ€™re into that) AND theyโ€™re actually a little cheaper than most decant sites in my experience, BUT, but but butโ€ฆ their website it utter fucking trash - or possibly their server host. You may have to reload a page like 10-15+ times before it -actually- loads. Itโ€™s a pain in the ass but everything else about them seems better than most other sites.

Surrendertochance is the last decant site Iโ€™ve used to check some rare/older fragrances off my list without buying a full bottle. Only purchased from them once, but it all checked out and was a good experience, so Iโ€™d buy from them again.

I'm just saying that there is a slight animalic note. I understand clean musks. I have galaxolide, habanolide, tonalide, exactolide and ethylene brassylate. I make perfume. I'm an amateur, but I understand and own many of the materials.

Musc Ravageur is a sexy fragrance, and although the animalic notes are mild, they are there and crucial to the composition. It's not straight animal ass, but it smells a little like walking into the taxidermy room at a museum. Like horse hair. Says more about your nose that you can't pick it up.

on my skin dhp was the typical make-upy iris, maybe a bit more floral thanks to the rose, combined with deep chocolatey notes and a bit of leather.
I am looking for something to fill it's spot as I don't even have 20mls left and it is my go to scent for colder weather. As far as combinations go, if it were to go the boozy-iris route it would have to be really good as I already have gentlemen prive and a basement creation of jmp, other than that I am open to sampling anything you recommend.

If the makeup vibe is something you're into maybe TF Noir (not the flankers they're completely different) will scratch that itch, but be advised that it's not the same kind of scent profile as DHP at all and somewhat more old school or some would even say dated, personally I think it's classy. It has some iris and leather too
Iris isn't my favorite but you might want to check out Iris Fauve by Atelier des Ors, it's not boozy since you already have that covered
If you like the sweet leather combo and don't mind amping up the sweetness, you could take a look at Oud Cadenza, it's sweeter than DHP though with the cocoa, dates and cinnamon. Other leather options with less sweetness would be Tuscan Leather which is one of the very few genuinely good fragrances among TF's private blend line, Tauer Lonestar Memories for something distinctly more rugged and "weathered" (it's not an elegant leather like DHP), and Memo African Leather which is more on the spicy side.
None of those are very similar to DHP but I'm just giving you ideas from the top of my head, don't blind buy any of them obviously

How does the iris in DHP smell to you? Because I have a DHI and although it is powdery / makeup-y i noticed that the iris they use has a deep, "carnal" vibe to it? I don't know how to explain it but iris in DHI for me is somewhat indolic and addictive compared to Prada L'homme which is a bit more light and airy.

smells even more "carnal"? to me prada l'homme just smells soapy, clean, loundry like. Meanwhile DHI is the iris that I would consider to be the usual.
>>18519186
I've never tried the orginal noir so will get my nose on that, will check out iris fauve however not putting too much hope in that, I did not have great experiences with atelier des ors in the past something from their dna did not agree with my skin. I like crivelli's ouds but I am not paying 13โ‚ฌ for a 1 ml sample, and neither am I traveling to UK just to test some perfumes.
Other recommendations are most definetely not what I am looking for, but thanks for them anyway.

Crivelli's full extrait sample set is like 40 bucks and acts like a coupon if you decide to buy a full bottle so if you already know you like them, isn't that a good option? The other extraits kinda suck imo (Hibiscus would be nice on a woman but I didn't like the rest) but if you were fairly sure to get one of the ouds it could be worth it.
>not what I am looking for
Yeah it's kinda tough to find anything that holds a candle to DHP to be honest, especially if you don't like rose. Good luck on your search

Could anyone give me a quick rundown on Maison Crivelli or if you've smelled their stuff and have thought I'd like to hear those too
Anonymous No.18519206 >>18519213
>>18519199
I've only tried their extraits, I would like to try some of their edps like Santal Volcanique but I don't feel like ordering another sample set now
Crivelli is one of those recent houses that ride on the "beastmode" trend, all of their fragrances are extremely (no exaggeration) strong. If you're looking for something light, airy or subtle you might want to check out other brands. They're mainly known for their three ouds (Cadenza, Stallion and Maracuja), which are pretty good
Among those I've tried
>Hibiscus Mahajad
Distinctly feminine, fragtok grifters will have you believe this is unisex but it is absolutely not. It would be attractive on a woman, it's definitely the best of the florals from the extrait sample set. Smells like bissap (the drink) with a hint of vanilla on the drydown
>Tubรฉreuse Astrale
>Patchouli Magnetik
I'll lump these together because they're also feminine florals although I didn't like them as much as Hibiscus, they're also very potent but tuberose and patchouli both tend to have that very thick almost syrupy quality to them which made them almost unpleasant to my nose. Unisex leaning feminine
>Oud Cadenza
The best of the three ouds imo. A nice sweet oud, nothing groundbreaking and probably overpriced like everything from the house but it's still one of those scents you enjoy getting whiffs of all day long. I smell mostly cinnamon, some caramel, oud and leather
>Oud Stallion
This one is just pure oud and leather. Extremely masculine, the most interesting from the sample set. Wore it to the doctor's once and the smell of dark, woody leather filled up the waiting room. I enjoy it a lot but it's pretty situational
>Oud Maracuja
The most hyped from Crivelli, it's oud + passionfruit. It's my least favorite of the three and the most unisex, the sillage is nice but I get tired of that passionfruit accord eventually. If you want a fruity oud you'll enjoy it but don't think the passionfruit makes it "fresh" in any way, it's dense and dark

Hibiscus Mahajรกd - overpowering hibiscus, cold rose, musky vanilla in the drydown, quite sweet and syropy from the start.
Osmanthe Kodoshan - peaches, fuzzy osmanthus and a decent ammount of anise. Doesn't last very long.
Oud Maracujรก - Very clean oud, leather and most importantly sickeningly sweet maracuja, defnitnely on the "slop" side of things but the scent profile itself is decently intresting, fruity leather taken to the extreme with maracuja and clean oud. Also atomic performance, even the most unwashed of arab clones enjoyers wouldn't dare to say a thing about it's parameters.
Oud Stallion - clean oud, boring leather, a bit of saffron and tonka. Bit boring, overpriced but the performance is once again atomic.
Safran Secret - deep drydown of ganymede without it's marine/ mineral qualities, just metalic saffron and suade, also an absolute ambroxan/iso-e-super (ambrofix I would bet) bomb

Can you guys recommend some good high heat long lasting fragrances that can withstand a lot of abuse? I work in construction and a lot of my work is on roofs, heavy lifting, in the sun. I usually wear heavy canvas overalls as well so I sweat a lot and generate a lot of heat on top of being out in the sun. Iโ€™ve been wearing AdG EDP mostly and itโ€™s been great, as well as Le Male EDT which is OK but melts off after too much heat. Before we all got into this hobby and were spraying indolic ouds and niche fragrances with notes of breast milk, this is what you would imagine when someone said โ€œcologneโ€. It smells like the platonic ideal of a mens fragrance.
>Antaeus
Only smelled it once at a chanel boutique. I remember it kind of being similar to Kouros but in a more formal way. Would like to get my hands on a bit just for the culture.

Wow, quite amazing. It starts with such an elegant green scent before it gets really sweet. Once it settles and gets sweet it reiterates my view on sweet scents and gourmands, which is they would be better if they were less sweet. When the caramel notes are not overwhelming you get very elegant woody notes likely from the patchouli. I'm not a regular coffee drinker and while I'm obviously familiar with the smell of coffee I don't pick it up too much other than those caramel syrupy lattes people get. It's funny that it smells differently depending on how you sniff, taking a big whiff you get very sugary honey notes, a gentle sniff gets you more of those fantastic woody notes. The rubber bottle looks a bit patchy, is a pain to press, and drip after it sprays but the green juice looks pretty cool however. Glad I ripped it open but I probably wont wear it more than a couple times a year.

Ended up purchasing the new BdC, will give a full write up later this week. Must say Iโ€™m rather annoyed, they literally donโ€™t do any samples at that boutique (or so they claimed), even when they knew I was purchasing the new BdC. Said they donโ€™t have the containers to make them. Really wanted some samples to test on skin, Egoiste, Pour Monsieur, Antaeus, etc.
As for the people that made suggestions of things to sniff (again, tester strips only since no samples) -

>>18518604
For the brief period I got to sniff Egoiste it was nice, but Iโ€™d need a few real tests on skin to full bottle it. Maybe someday.
>>18520072
Antaeus, fucking kek, that was interesting. Honestly >>18520078 is pretty accurate, itโ€™s in a similar vein as Kouros, but where Kouros is dirty soapy, Antaeus is dirtyโ€ฆ earthy herbal, maybe? Iโ€™m working off memory from several hours back at this point.
Itโ€™s the type of frag where if they made a 10-15ml travel Iโ€™d buy it in a heartbeat and be set for life, but I could never use a full bottle, not even half, in the rest of my life, so sadly itโ€™s a pass for me atm.

Canโ€™t fucking quote more than 5 posts or itโ€™s โ€œspamโ€. Dumb.
