Skinny jeans became popular in the early 2000s in California. At least half of the school I went to was wearing skinny or a variant similar to skinny jeans and wearing a studded belt. They shopped at Hot Topic, Zuimez, PacSun, Vans, and Tilly’s. Relaxed fit was like 1999-2004 when everyone was still into South Pole and JNCO. By 2005 everyone was told to stop immediately or else be ostracized.

No. That bullshit like Parkway Drive and Weezer was a literal who subculture and retarded shit from Ohio. Ohio is irrelevant and should stay irrelevant. I don’t care what Gen X has to say, when 99% of the world thinks emo, they think of all black with skinny jeans, white belts, and melting skull prints on striped tees. When the majority of the world thinks of emo, they think of Hawthorne Heights and My Chemical Romance.
In 2001 everyone was wearing baggy jeans and tee shirts beneath open button-downs.
