Has tailored menswear gotten too homogenous?
Every "menswear influencer" has almost the exact same style down to the linen ghurka pants and sockless penny loafers, all of them have virtually indistinguishable personalities and vibes, nobody has an interesting sense of character to how they dress

I wish we had more 2010s electro swing hipster types, zoomer y2k guys, people who have a niche (mods, zoot suiters, etc), people who come at it from a different perspective

We need to bring back full cut jackets. Suits are meant to drape over our shoulders and exaggerate masculine features, not round off corners and soften our frame. You don't see photos of men in suits in the 40s that look like scrawny faggots because they understood this.

none of this revitalized #menswear bullshit looks good. it all has a costumey, larpy jaunty air that is extremely offputting. truly good fits are effortless because they are effortless

The menswear meme came from old /fa/ where everyone had this weird scenario played out in their heads where if they wore grandpa clothes they’d get some twee hipster girl approach them at a cafe and talk about art and philosophy while scoffing at people who go out to party. A geeky introvert’s wet dream. I remember everyone simped over Blah while dressing like Peewee Herman.

I agree. I would say just start watching old fashion shows, for mens and womens wear. It is much more interesting than this slop

Would like to see how this kind of build looks in an Italian-cut DB. I think that kind of suit would be most complementary to a broad shouldered and muscular physique, but i would appreciate feedback on these thoughts.

Who even dresses like this nowadays? It looks too larpy outside of special occasions. You can maybe wear one of the items with something more casual, like the trousers and shoes with a plain t-shirt. But don't go for this look

Have you ever been to an airport or anywhere with remotely any money going through it? This is like the uniform of the first class frequent flyer; literal suits might be dead but this look is very alive and kicking.

The only people who dress like this are those who still go to an office involved in advertising. Otherwise, it’s now outdated 2015 shit. Nobody dresses like this when they’re not at work. Not even Italians look like this anymore. The outfit is no different than people who wear suits: it’s for a specific occasion.

That just proves that menswear is for specific situations with a relevant dress code. Dressing smart has also been dressed down. A simple turtleneck is the new meta for looking smart.

West Coast maybe, I haven't seen that become the norm here in the East Coast however; it's still a lot of unstructured sport coats and trousers.

Current fashion is youth focused. Everyone wants to be 20 years old forever. Menswear would have to be dressed down significantly and be minimalist. The menswear /fa/ drools over is old, dated, and too mature.

Menswear today would be a turtleneck, chain, balloon fit pants, shawl neck coat/blazer, and slip-ons. No rolled skinny denim, no wingtips, no redwing boots, no neckties, no plaid, maybe even no belt. Patterns would be 90s geometric patterns IF one were to apply them to a shirt.

If they are "influencers" as their primary income, then you need to disregard them. Fashion is about self expression, social media clout is about appealing to the broadest common denominator. To have an opportunity to grow their "brand" as large as possible, a fashion influencer has to take less and less risk lest they alienate too much of their audience and are then punished by their algorithmic master.

Tend to find that niche online fashion forums are always very, very out of the loop on what's relevant to normies.

It's best to view both sides with caution if you are meaningfully wanting to have a sense of style.
