fragrances cost 5% of the retail price in raw materials to make. you're mostly paying for the bottle it comes in. most people can't tell the difference between a really expensive fragrance and some shit from the department store.
most men's fragrances are endocrine disruptors that will affect your hormones if regularly used and onions you out. there's a reason most influencers in the space are gay and bisexual.
its just a grift to make you gay and part you with your hard earned money. even diamonds are less of a scam.

I find it rather disappointing how frequently this chat room degenerates into posting such videos. I am sure everyone is familiar with certain ethnocultural practices but I do not desire to see them here. On that note, I find it particularly interesting that the Indian oud variety (for example firmenichs Oud Assafi) seems to have the most intensely fecal nuances when compared to the more floral and fruity Indonesian, Malaysian, Vietnamese and particularly Cambodian oud types, the latter having the most intense fruity and sweet facets. Having composed Oud fragrances myself, I often tend to create accords emulating softer South East Asian ouds, especially since certain floral facets tend to bridge gaps between the hesperidic opening notes. When a more fecal oud note, similar to the Indian variety is required, I often find myself using skatole, indole, civet and other animalic aromachemicals and bases, like castoreum synth or civet synth (kouros). Both aforementioned molecules also lend certain flowery facets at low concentrations. Indole besides being utilized in accords seeking to emulate the smell of death, is also found in jasmine. Skatole meanwhile can be found in the feces of animals and adds floral nuance when dosed appropriately.

Speaking of oud, I don't know why but I can't seem to relate to the general consensus on it as an animalic/dirty/fecal/pissy/sweaty/whateverelse scent, at least in whatever oud-forward frags I've smelled. I find it oddly sweet, somewhat nutty and maybe fruity, and every oud fragrance has leaned slightly too feminine to me; I guess the fact that most of them are built with a strong rose overtone doesn't help much in that regard. Maybe I just really need to smell the real thing.. eventually..

Anyways, SOTD: Interlude

I’ve had two women (one my GF, one a female coworker) say -unprompted- that it β€œjust smells like clean skin”. It will always have a place in my collection. It also works remarkably well in extremely high heat without being an aquatic or citrus frag, which is when I reach for it most.

Tangentially related, but ELDO bottles have fantastic vaporizers, very generous but also a smooth, fine mist.

I believe that as a Perfumer, you must know how to balance creativity with customer satisfaction, the pendulum cannot swing too far to either side without either risking to create something too niche that might not fare well with the average consumer, or creating something so generic that you won’t find customers because it smells too familiar. Fragrances like sauvage, bleu de Chanel and Eros exist in the middle of this imaginary space, they are neither too radical nor too familiar, at least not during the time of their inception. Interestingly enough I have created fragrances that sought to capture the essence of a place before, and despite not being able to mention what I created, I’m nonetheless very proud of my work seeing as the aforementioned fragrances have had remarkable success. Obviously back then I was not given total creative control, as is the case in this hypothetical scenario. If I had to create something for the open market I would seek to capture the smell of oud (also using Indian Nagarmotha), spices and certain flowers native to India. On the other hand, if I created something for the sake of it, I’d definitely attempt to capture India in its entirety.

I'd say it's a "safe" blind buy if you already like 80s-90s old school masculine frags like Drakkar Noir, Kouros and Fahrenheit.
The only thing with Antaeus is it's not very versatile as a casual everyday scent unless you're always dressed up on the job imo. I also wouldn't wear it outside of late fall/winter.

>>18564120
Nah, the new formulation of Drakkar Noir lasts maybe 2 hours if you're lucky. It's been ruined. If you can find a bottle of the 2010 formulation or older, it's fine. But the 2020's version smells significantly watered down and almost pissy. Drakkar Intense and Drakkar Bleu are quite pleasant though if a bit generic and mediocre.

I'd recommend either One Man Show Emerald or Lomani Pour Homme for that barbershop smell (Lomani is pretty mediocre too but it's like $8), or the original Jacques Bogart if you can find a bottle.
