/fa/ meta thread
I was just reading an old random thread from /fa/ in the archives from like 2015. It seems like /fa/ had much more soul back then. Did it peak at around this time? It seems like there has been a vibe shift since then, and not a good one.

thats the whole internet. including 4chan so yes it was better. people were funnier in general and less bitter, there was lots of shit talking but not because of ill intent. now ppl just seem miserable as fuck

all the /fa/ oldfags unironically left for instagram or discord. now the house is full of squatters clueless as to who used to live there

Maybe it has lost the vibe you were accostumed to. Maybe it has a new vibe entirely which you don't recognize anymore.

Only the old money thread.

/fa/ was probably best the first day it was added to the catalog and has been straight downhill ever since then, just like everything on this site it will only ever get worse.

yes, there is not much of a board culture anymore, just reccomendation threads

i'd take a throwaway light chuckle casemods shitpost thread over another cringe zoomie old money thread any day of the year.

I remember this place used to have more memes back then and more of an identity
everyone was obsessed with wearing all black, tech wear and some select designers that catered to that style
gothninja was the big meme, with Yohji and Rick being discussed a lot

nowadays it feels a lot more fragmented and not as cohesive. same exact thing happened to /mu/, it used to be all about the /mu/core, now it has just a bunch of random people posting about things like K-pop and Taylor Swift, which I can't imagine 2015 /mu/ doing

not to say the changes are all bad or anything, just a shift towards less of a cohesive board identity / groupthink

>tfw too much of an autist to do all the social networking required to use discord
maybe this is a good thing but i do sort of wish it was possible to talk about this stuff to people
maybe it's time to start sewing

i used to browse here in 2015 when i was in college
now as an old ass 30 year old that actually has money to buy clothes i'm back and the place is just a ghost town
i don't even know where you find good online fashion discourse these days (/fa/ was never good), best guess is some invite-only groomer discords or something

the root of the issue here is that nobody posts here anymore. down to maybe 20% of the daily active posts we had in 2015, and of the people still posting here it's mostly just people posting the same dog shit in their general chats. we have SEVEN watch threads open right now.
Anonymous No.18585053 [Report]

we should have 0, watches are retarded

i could write a research paper on this topic lmao. i think the fundamental problem is forums are a superior way to communicate. if two ppl are arguing you can easily tell who is right (fit pics, reputation, etc). threads were used for years. as social media became more popular there was this trend towards temporary. threads are only active for a day before the algorithm shows you something new. as a result questions get asked ad nauseam. why would anyone stick around to repeat the same answer. its only midwits responding. the blind leading the blind. all knowledge is lost to the 1000th person asking if chukkas are too formal for work. in depth discussions are relegated to the second page bc its hard to participate and digest the info being shared.

to the anon reading this that wants to learn look up seenmy or shui tsang. when you find them or ppl talking about them read through and absorb as much information as you can.

>>18584665
even those platforms are mostly dead. last time i checked discord it was just ppl (living in flyover states ofc) flexing their parents base model cayennes.
>>18584872
its really easy to start. just get a needle + some thread and you can taper/hem.

This board is completely dead. I can't even remember when I last found any discussions here interesting or entertaining, and the idea of actually obtaining fashion advice here is incomprehensible.
I think a lot of zoomer fashion is extremely lame, but usually it isn't committing any worse crimes than just being extremely lame. I don't think it's symbolic of any profound moral degradation, unlike apparently a very large amount of the posters here. If nobody is willing to discuss new styles because they oppose them politically then this place is going to turn into Styleforum for 2010s fashion and die completely.
The constant ongoing civil war between schizos, spammers etc is exhausting and makes the board actively, meaningfully worse. It isn't even funny, which would've redeemed it slightly. The bait threads would be manageable if there was a higher volume of genuine posting to drown them out, but there isn't.
And, obviously, you can't have a decent fashion discussion without having people actually posting their fits. This is essential. But there is no reason in the world why anybody would post themselves here. At best you get a few people calling you a faggot, and at worst some schizo decides you're the one getting the Freemasons to beam gay thoughts into his brain and he spams your pictures everywhere for years. There is no upside to doing it. This is the biggest problem and I imagine it is irreversible.
I loved /fa/ a decade ago and now I actually have the resources to dress nice there's nowhere really to post or talk about clothes, which is a little depressing. Reddit isn't insane in the way here is insane, but it's mostly just doughy substitute teachers posting their groomsman suits and "date night with wifey" neckties and so on. Styleforum etc are excellent but devoted to their particular interests. I don't think the situation is really capable of being fixed, which is disappointing.

K-pop threads were already there in 2013 IIRC.
They just weren't as noticeable because the board was a lot faster overall whereas now you can have five k-pop threads on autosage in the catalog plus some split threads for specific groups because the rest of the board is far slower in comparison.

The difference is that Kpop threads back then were about bands with girls. Now it’s about bands with all men with curtain bangs.

The threads have barely changed, the image posting just change based on the flavor of the year band.

there were actually some "cores" and discussion of new styles. Now I only see posts about skinny vs baggy pants

I was lurking and posting in like 2014-15 on both /fa/ and /mu/ where I was originally drawn in by the memes but I legitimately learned quite a bit about fashion and music. It was honestly formative. But now I can’t really see why anyone would be drawn to these pages. Is there anywhere anymore where you can actually have decent discussion about menswear? I tried Reddit but the fits are so fucking atrocious I couldn’t bear it

I remember some legitimately good fit threads back in the day - was definitely how I was introduced to Rick, Kapital, Yohji etc. I recall there was pretty thriving tumblr offshoot too
