striking with the palm and slapping can be legit ways of striking, but training it like boxing is stupid. palm strikes are better suited for entering into stand up grappling, that's why you see them in old military manuals where the goal is to close distance and take the other person to the ground so your buddies stab them with bayonets. same thing in sumo where they slap and palm strike each other to get into a better grip.
