I'm someone who has raw stats and no finesse, but I've never understood sports on an emotional level.
I remember my Mom (who isn't really into sports btw) trying to motivate me to enjoy the Superbowl when I was 6, and I was confused about why people watching the tv were referring to the players on the screen as "we". It gets under my skin to this day.

They want to associate themselves with winners because of normie posturing. That's why they hide themselves when the team they cheer for loses but take out the jerseys and beer when the team wins. Listen to them talk about whatever team they cheer for, when the team wins it's "we won" and when the team loses it's "they lost"

Kinda, I never wished I was good at sports, I just wish I was socialized better at a young age so I wouldn't be so socially stunted and be more confident. I was mechanically good at sports but I had none of the IQ to know what to do and none of the confidence to even try.

I'm slow, easily fatigued and short tho so my ceiling was pretty low anyways so I don't regret it too much.

probably some kind of b8 thread but i'll take it seriously.

yeah I regret it. I'm not even necessarily bad at sports by comparison to other adults, but it's more about the social aspect the establish in your youth
>do team sports in school
>your brain develops in an environment where everyone around you is more or less your buddy (unless you're shit at the sport)
>your brain develops in a "I'm liked and people like the things I say and do" environment, making you a more pleasant adult
>lower stress hormones => healthier more aesthetic body
>get invited to team activities and parties => meet girls that don't suck, learn to identify girls who do
>consequently learn how girls and women think and behave, you're not taken by surprise as an adult
>you're used to being part of the "in" group when you start working, so you're able to identify who to stick with to progress professionally
>you learn to identify and make fun of losers to make yourself look better
Not doing team sports is a terrible idea as a kid
>be me, non-childhood-sports-doer
>only did shit like karate, wrestling, YMCA basketball as kid
>solo sports that don't involve communication and team sports where your teammates disappear each season
>get to high school, don't know football, join anyway
>establish myself as a fuckup immediately
>low self-esteem => low aggression => get wrecked during wrestling season => look like a bigger faggot
>not even allowed to talk to popular/cute girls => only get to date BPDs and chubsters
>don't know how normal girls manipulate and lie => get cheated on by first normal gf in college right away, still can't talk to normal girls without being introduced
>never learned the benefits of being a bully => make friends with losers => lose out on girls and work opportunities
tl;dr: make your son do team sports, even if he only does virgin shit outside of that

Let me expand on my previous comment

Yeah, I liked playing sports when I was young. I was pretty good and actually had fun. Then at HS age around 14, I stayed a skinny runt while all the other guys got big. Their height, size, and speed left me in the dust and I became useless at sports. I became the typical "obsessed with watching sports but never plays them" loser.

So then I decided to get into refereeing because I figured I should try to do something interactive with sports. So I've been a ref for three sports for a while now. And while it is somewhat enjoyable to do, I can meet people, get exercise, keep my mind sharp doing it, etc., it does get really depressing because I referee youth quite a bit, and seeing all the kids have the great social aspect of sports, the feeling of achieving something in the game, seeing the boys and girls teams occasionally play after one another so one team is watching the other and you see the camaraderie between the genders, everyone having teammates as their friends, it makes me think about what I have missed out on my entire life.

Yeah, this is more or less the difference between me and my younger brother. We were pretty close growing up and both stayed into anime and nerd shit as we aged, but he played football and I didn't.
Fast-forward 20 years later and he's socially well connected with a great job that pays crazy well, a great fiance and a large social circle, after partying a bunch in high school and college. Literally the textbook Chad meme.
Meanwhile, I'm socially isolated, trapped in a dead-end job, and my only real relationship was 5 years ago and ended with her cheating on me. Literally the textbook virgin meme.
Crazy how life works.

Stories like this are why I’m sort of happy to be an only child while a complete loser. Being an only child sucks but at least I don’t have a very successful sibling to be compared to and reminded of all the time, and seeing how we were both raised in the same environment yet he became successful and I didn’t do clearly everything is my fault

Well obviously I can’t speak as to what it’s like having a sibling, and I definitely get that point of view. But I’m just straight up a complete failure of a person. I feels terrible for my parents that their only child ended up completely worthless loser whose only accomplishment is not ending up a criminal. But I feel like if I was like this but also has normal or successful sibling(s), it would feel somehow even more horrible. Like if I was to become an uncle like you, having a nephew/niece get older and ask why you’re a loser, etc. In fact that’s why I stopped going to thanksgiving like 5 years back, the only time I ever see/talk to extended family. I’m too ashamed, embarrassed, and humiliated. I had three cousins in the single digits of ages who have now had 5 years of growing up and are preteen age, and I just want them to not even remember that I exist

I was good at sports but I regret not taking it seriously. I was on the youth teams for my local soccer and basketball teams but I didn't have a competitive bone in my body for most of my life so I treated training and matches as fun. The moment we got old enough that the other guys and coaches started taking it seriously and got mad when I would fuck around during training was when I lost the passion to keep going. I regret that a lot. I didn't have the height to do well in basketball and I didn't have the raw talent to be anywhere near pro in soccer but it would've kept me fit as I ended up becoming fat as a teen and adult. I still play both with friends for fun but I haven't competed in any sport since I was 14

I tried sports when I was in middle school, about 13,14 years old. I was a late bloomer and so I was a little smaller than the other kids on the team. I was never given a single chance to do anything. Even in practice the coaches and other players would basically keep me off to the side and I got maybe 10 seconds of playtime in a game if I was lucky. It discouraged me right off the bat and instilled a bad attitude in my head about it, which made me even LESS willing to try - because fucking why bother? Even when I busted my ass and tried to assert myself in practice the coaches just didn't give a shit. I was just counting down the days until the season was over and I could fucking quit and never try again.

As an adult I'm average sized and I hit this size maybe about halfway through high school. With training and good nutrition I could have been quite athletic at that age, I know that now because as an adult I lift heavy, have great cardio and good all around athleticism.

I have two sisters and they've both been divorced at least once. One of them had a chaotic life filled with drugs and abuse until she was nearly 50 and it's still pretty wonky, the other had a failed marriage and basically got her life on track by the time she was 30, but is still kind of a space cadet still. I turned out to be the good one, went to college, grad school, have a good career and family. I am kind of surprised, given what I was as a teenager, that I turned out well.

I competed in track at a fairly ‘high’ level from the age of seven until I was 18 (although back then you were divided into age groups), but in my country nobody cares unless you're elite, and even then only the bubble who have a particular interest in the sport care. I probably could have picked up a few female athletes if I'd kept competing, but that didn't even occur to me when the other option was to go to bars and clubs or the beach and pick up girls just because I had a six pack. I think even though I gave up sport for a degenerate lifestyle, I still felt compelled to keep a good physique and if I hadn't been fit through sport, I'd probably be skinnyfat now.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Just because someone plays sports doesn’t mean they’ll be successful or vice versa. There may be a correlation of people playing sports to being successful but that usually is some type of thing where people who are a certain way like being social motivated and goal oriented gravitate to team sports and then if they end up successful due to being motivated social and goal oriented it looks like playing sports made them successful

I was junior usta ranked as a kid, pretty decent for my state but nothing exceptional. My middle school and high school didn't offer tennis as a sport so I just dropped it because I didn't care enough to change schools over a sport. Picked it back up in college at the club sports level and got an invite to be a D1 walk on that I declined. Sometimes I think about what could have been. Oddly enough I don't even like tennis, I'd much rather be good at baseball but I was just a bench player for the varsity team back then.

Worded that badly, the invite wasn't to be on the team but it was to try out for the team. Which was still a moderately big deal considering the tryouts were limited, it wasn't an open invite.

I kind of regret I didn't do anything like track & field and wrestling.
Then again, it's a bit of a turn off after seeing all the sports related injuries and sexual assaults in high school and college. Hazing seems pretty gay as fuck. All the guys that played football in HS get fat and have glory days. That's not including brain damage.
Similar to joining the military. 9/11 happened when I was in school, but a few years of news coverage in Afghanistan and Iraq and everything through the withdrawal was a turn off.

Team sports are dumb so are the people watching them (e.g. Football fans). Every time someone says something along the lines "we played good yesterday" I ask "did you play as well?" and they never get it. Also when their favorite team plays badly and lose the game, people do not refer to the players as "we" anymore and now it's "them/they" which is hillarious.

From memory at my school Wednesday afternoons was “sports day” where we would split into our different sports and get on little buses and go play against other schools. When year 10 started there was no sport anymore, they straight up deleted it from the core curriculum and made it an ‘elective’ subject called “Rec” which was some bludge subject where you learn how to be a PE teacher. You could only do 4 elective subjects and I needed to do physics, chemistry, biology, and maths C to get into Uni so I never played sports again.

Private schools had entire programs for rugby union and league and kids got to play sports. I would’ve loved that opportunity or even fucking just any free sport program at all but there was nothing. I’m forever envious of Americans and their seemingly endless access to all ranges of sports
