>Who is /fat/ for?
For gummi gluttons working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

kidney beans have 8g of protein per serving. that's 28g of protein per can. beans are good because they have both carbs and protein and they're low calorie and filling with plenty of fiber. not everyone wants to eat tons of animal protein for every meal, it's expensive and women and vegetarians prefer not to eat that much meat usually. also, a can of kidney beans is $1.

protein powder is very expensive, especially compared to chicken and ground turkey- which are both low-calorie, with plenty of protein, and zero sugar. your protein powder is probably great (and not cheap). but when you recommend to a fat person that they should drink chocolate milkshake protein powder instead of eating lean meat, then they are going to run off to walmart and buy the cheapest, shittiest, most chocolately protein powder on the shelf and they are going to binge on it.

it's for people who need extra protein because they work out all the time. it's not a good choice for fat people trying to lose weight. the number one problem with protein powder, is that it doesn't leave you feeling full and that's the most important thing for someone who is new to fitness and overweight.

Iโ€™ve had the opposite. Multiple clean wipe yet pebble poops.
You donโ€™t need more than 30-32g fiber bros. DESU you can get away with 25.
If youโ€™re going to a beach day or doing a photo shoot for the gram/dating apps Iโ€™d recommend dropping it for a week or switching to MRMโ€™s organic fiber mix. That one doesnโ€™t cause me farts or bloat. And it kind of tastes like apple sauce?

It's insane how much food you can eat when you priorities lean protein and are careful with your carb and condiment choices.
The difference in volume between the 1500 calories of junkfood I'd have once a day before vs tracking smartly and eating normally is crazy.
Also turns out eating more than 100g protein isn't a meme, I feel so much better.

Thats exactly what they are. Some of them have ludicriously big rosters like the pendulum 20th edition which are my favorites. They have quest modes, battle colliseums, multiplayer, and very in depth evolution mechanics. Here's a sample roster. This is just one of 10 eggs on 1 of the 2 versions of the pendulum 20th. The other one has another 10 eggs.

Not quite, but there are palette swaps in the anime and games. There's also alt versions of digimon. For example Agumon, ToyAgumon, and Agumon X. If you ever want to try the virtual pets out, I recommend buying a Digimon X virtual pet. They're affordable, have a lot of features like leveling up and a quest mode, and really cool rosters.

DIGIVICE 25th Color Evolution. It's not a tamagotchi though. It's more a step counter game. You don't feed this one or put it to bed like the actual digimon virtual pets.

>not really my thing but sure I'll remember that. good for you though, it's good to have hobbies.
That's cool. I used to love these as a kid and got really into them again like 5 years ago when I first started getting /fit/. Was a good way to pass the time while walking to lose weight and in between sets at the gym. They've been with me from the whole journey, being morbidly obese to having abs. This is my second time being this lean (first time was march last year), I just came back to this thread after bulking and I'm pretty much done cutting again. Two months before I go back to japan lol.

Just do it properly. Don't use it as an excuse to eat like shit. If you're a weak-willed noob, slowly increase your fast durations. Plan your meals AND activities. Drink coffee and/or tea to blunt hunger if you have a tough time. You get used to it quickly if you're even vaguely consistent. Ignore the losers saying it doesn't work; your (potential lack of) discipline is the only thing that could make it not work, and the reason they say it doesn't work is becaused they lack discipline to not shove food in their faces regularly.

People like YOU are the reason broccoli is so hated I swear to god. Broccoli on its own is okay, but not great. It's amazing at soaking up flavor though, sear it for a roasting flavor, fry it with some garlic and a sugar starch broth, add oyster sauce, for the love of god give it flavor.

Because there majority of people don't enjoy it by itself.
Granted, they might be used to the horrific crimes that are done to most broccoli (boiling it in water until all flavor, color, aroma and nutrition has left it) but I had so many people who tasted my cooking remark how good the broccoli was and that they used to not like it as much. I suspect they are victims of these broccoli rapists that boil it for hours on end.

How much you like Broccoli is heavily influenced by your TAS2R38 gene. To some people Broccoli is bitter, to others its incredibly bitter akin to eating charcoal, others will say it tastes like nothing, while others will say it isn't bitter at all and has a good taste. It all comes down to your TAS2R38.

When you really think about it, if you lose weight just by walking 3 hours a day then you havent really fixed your eating habits and when you approach your goal weight you will still need to walk that much all the time. If you stop walking then you risk gaining the weight again.
Thats why a lot of pro athletes gain weight after retirement. You dont lose those extra 1.5k cals by training hard and its hard to adjust. Happened to me when i stopped practicing basketball everyday.
If you plan on walking for the rest of your life its fine i guess but i dislike walking cause i live in commie blocks and outside looks horrendeous. If i was by some lake, river or forest i would absolutely do it though

If you aren't active you need to eat less. But it's a lot easier to maintain your weight, you don't need to be in a deficit forever.

Say you reach your goal weight and over the next 6 months you gain a couple of kilos. You cut down for a few weeks and you're good. The real issue is when you let go for too long (like me) and you need to lose 20+kg to be normal again, that shit takes months of high effort.

There is something to that, but realistically to maintain cardio and muscular health you should be budgeting in at least 10 hours a week of working out. Most of this should be walking or LISS cardio, but you should also have a good hour of Zone 3 and Zone 4 cardio, and probably a couple hours of resistance training.

As someone who used to eat a 150-200g bag of chips or peanuts, a big Snickers and a liter of non-diet coke in a single evening (and that's AFTER eating three square meals a day with lighter snacks in between), the cravings were almost debilitating at first and still they haven't completely gone away in ~8 months. I've also only lost 10 kilos from peak (7 from actual persistent weight) in these 8 months, but my deficit isn't particularly large.

modern day processed food sloppa is designed to get you to consume as much of it as possible. realistically, and assuming most people won't totally abstaining from consuming them, how are you supposed to manage cravings for these sorts of hyper palatable food items, especially if you were raised by sloppa eating parents who turned you into a little sloppa eating consumer child?

there are studies that say you don't need anything. One fed people non-caloric slop for a pre-workout and there was no difference between the control group and the no calorie group. Other studies confirm there is a difference between eating something and eating nothing. If you are like me and knowing the situation and no access to non-caloric slop I recommend upping your daily intake to feel full at the gym. Best to target things that make you feel full rather than target high satiety.

I've got to start eating vegetables. Growing up or now, I was never into them because they usually taste dull and are either soggy or crunchy. I'm fine eating very little with very little calories (drinking lots of water helps with that), but I need more protein and a healthier diet, not just full grain bread, soup (and now protein powder) every day. And making several hundred grams of chicken every day seems both expensive as well as a lot of effort to make and clean up.

Budget 1 hour each day for walking, and then on two separate days of the week say Wednesday and Saturday add 1 hour for resistance training, and then on two other days say Tuesday and Friday and about a half hour for Higher Intensity Cardio. Plenty of water for volume, Soup if you need it to be flavored. Make sure the dish within your kcals that you make is both flavorful and enjoyable to eat to limit cravings. If satiety is the issue, physillium husk powder will make you giga satiated.
Unironically making the food and diet enjoyable is a far too overlooked aspect. I'm eating like a king, just not in terms of amount.
My main dishes are all strongly spiced for that flavor hit, for a treat today I drank some homemade iced tea (sometimes homemade mate soda) and as dessert as a treat I've made some ice cream in my ninja creamy.
Handling cravings is a mind game for sure, but if your meals aren't enjoyable you're stacking the deck against you for no reason.

Isn't that unironically the reason behind onions existing? IIrc it was some tech bro who said he hated eating and just wanted the easiest way to ingest the required nutrients quickly. Not that onions is good at that, but I think that was the idea.

You sound like me lol. Got 3 days left in my 10 week diet and it was a breeze to lose 20 pounds. Only got challenging this final week. I also spiced the shit out of my food and made sure it was full of fiber to make it intense tasting and filling. This was literally the easiest diet Ive ever had to do. Granted its also the least Ive had to lose, but you learn a lot from past diet successes and failures. Hell this time I regained weight on purpose knowing it would fuel my lifting and that I could lose it.

Today I weighed in at 175 lbs. Thats like 12.3 lbs in 28 days. I thought I was eating at ~700 calorie deficiet but maybe it's alot more. I have been working out and doing couch to 5k. I was a little worried I'm losing wieght to fast but today a coworker asked if I lost wieght so I am full speed ahead.

I have a similar diet, 1500 calories a day aiming for about 9 lbs per month.

I limit it because I don't wanna end up with loose skin. 12 lbs in 28 days seems like a lot.

Let's say ~5 lbs of that was water loss (I pulled that number out of my ass) which you lost at the start of the diet. The remaining 7 lbs in 28 days would be a deficit of 900 calories which checks out if you take the workouts into account

Could be

I lose a bit more than 9 lbs per month at 1500 calories a day being 6'1 so for someone 5'9 it could be a bit less like 7.

But the exact calculation doesn't matter because you say that you just started therefor you would lose water weight, around 5 lbs sounds right so you're not losing too fast then. You'll be able to calculate exactly how much of a calorie deficit you're at at the end of about 37 days, checking only the last month of it to not factor in any water weight lost.

Keep it up.

he told me to do the abs bicycle exercise and it worked wonders.
i've been off laxatives and coffee for a over a month now with somewhat good bowel movement.
i'll try to do more of the exercise but i'm too fucking lazy. i only do it for 1 minute per day.
i'll try to do it for 2 minutes and report back.

>How do you guys manage to stay in a calorie deficit while dealing with stress?
Firstly, do stuff that helps you relax. Do something good for yourself. Go for a walk, do something you enjoy (not eating), take a bath, whatever you can do to "reward" yourself.
Secondly, if you have to eat, make sure it's enjoyable, this is doable even with low kcals.
Lastly, consider looking up awareness exercises. Avoid self-help gurus and try to find resources that are more medical in nature (therapy related). This should both help with stress management and put you more into control over your instincts.

>Try butternut squash with spaghetti sauce. You'll be blown away.
I will when they are in season. Not something that's at the store year round here.
That being said I like zucchini because it's even less calories and you don't have to cook it before, just toss it in a pan for a bit. With my mandolin and the 3mm julienne attachment it's a matter of 5 minutes to make the noodles, the rest is just the sauce. Pretty convenient, especially because my time management is ass and I usually start cooking when I'm already very hungry.

Two things that help:
- Lose weight, that's the biggest factor
- Do more cardio. You don't have to do a shitton, but get your heart pumping once a day. It'll help with the sweating I promise.

I already atleast 30 minutes of cardio each time I go to the gym.
Though biking to the grocery store is like 10-15 minutes at best.
10 minutes of fast incline walking and 20 minutes on a cross trainer.
No idea if my threadmill goes 5.8 miles an hour or 5.8km an hour.
I am guessing miles, but that might be wishful thinking.
I also bike to the gym and it takes like 10 to 15 min to get there.
And now also the 25 min walk to and from work(50 min) total though I do work part time so it's not every day.
There is nothing left, but to just lose weight I guess.

Doesn't matter how hard or easy your cardio is for the sweating, that's not a function of muscles, what matters is the heartrate you get to. Sounds like you already do plenty and get your heart pumping for warmup, so yeah, losing the weight will be what saves you, not the cardio.

They swell quite a lot, 30g of chia seeds in 250ml of liquid gives you chia pudding in terms of consistency.
Depends on what you're going for. You can just add them and eat them quick and have a little crunch in your quark, or you can pre-soak them, get a more pudding consistency and have them be easier to digest.
Just don't add them to quark, then let it sit without adding liquid, or it'll be a weird inbetween.

It's like eating Physikum husk (powder), they will absorb moisture and swell. This can make you feel bloated and overly full and it might be an issue of you aren't hydrated well. But a reasonable amount for a reasonably hydrated man probably won't do much. Soaked they just get a bit slimy which isn't everyone's taste. I used to rawdog a teaspoon of physilium husk powder daily and chase it with a glass or two of water and I loved to tell the tale - you'll be fine.
With Quark alone, especially Magerquark you'll want to chase it with some liquid to be safe.

a caloric deficit is a temporary state intended to get to a goal weight, at that point you eat at maintenance and don't feel hungry most of the time. if you do just a tiny bit of exercise you can eat even more without gaining fat.

Most digital scales have a memory and won't change the number it displays unless the weight fluctuates past some internal threshold, usually like +/- 5 lbs.

You can usually bypass this memory by weighing yourself, then weigh yourself holding a 10+ lb weight, then putting the weight down again and weighing yourself once again.

They do this because the sensors on digital scales aren't accurate and will otherwise spit out different numbers all the time.

I mentioned around a week ago doing a high carb, high protein, and low fat day for shits and giggles. I ate slightly above maintenance for that one day and ate my normal high protein meals with a bag of candy and a small amount of oreos. Previously, my weight was going down pretty slowly, about 1.2lb a week for the past month or so. After that high day I went back to my normal calorie deficit cardio, lifting, and clean eating, but proceeded to lose about 4.2lb over the next 9 days. Went from 170 to 165.8. It wasn't even a sharp drop over a day or two, it was like .6lb a day everyday. Weird as fuck, but may be worth trying once if you're knee deep into a diet. I did this about 8-9 weeks into dieting. Weird, but not unheard of. I did it after hearing about the sugar diet and it reminding me of a bodybuilding technique called skiploading. To be clear I didn't do the sugar diet, I just did a single high carb and high protein day with low fats.

The idea is supposedly that you're depleted in glycogen from dieting, so in the absence of eating fat the calories in the carbs get stored as glycogen instead of fat while helping to keep metabolism high. Total bro science and is probably bullshit, but it's a common bodybuilding tactic. Here's an article by the guy it's named after, but it's loaded with pictures of junk food. If that's gonna fuck with you, I recommend skipping it lol.

>i think that's the key to all this stuff. when you diet too long, your body adjusts. you've got to trick it into thinking you're going to stop.
Could be that. Could just be water manipulation from the carbs and sugar. No idea to be honest, but it was nice having some candy and not having a melty over it or binging for days. Instead I got to see the scale move down.

that wasn't it. it was something about how spheres of ice don't melt when you shove them in there or something. frostbite maybe? it just doesn't seem like a good idea to shove ice cubes up your ass no matter how smooth they are.

>binging food
ngmi, why? You haven't developed any sort of better habits with food, you just fast then gourge? You will yo yo hard. As one post said, losing weight is half the battle, you then need to keep it off for the rest of your life, and you will NOT be able to maintain fasting and then gorging for the rest of your life. There are a lot of people who start fat, get into great shape, get fat again, then great shape again multiple times, and the reason they yo yo is they never developed a better relationship with food. Sorry, anon, but your "diet" is not something someone can maintain for the duration of their life.

The other anon is right. Losing the weight is comparatively the easy part. Most people can lose the excess weight, keeping that weight off is the hard part. A majority will have regained all the weight they lost in just one year, its even more grim by 5 years the vast majority will have gained it all back and added even more.

The people who succeed at keeping the weight off do so by fundamentally changing their relationship with food and building sustainable habits which they never quit. If you do any sort of dieting that's temporary you're setting yourself up for failure. You want your diet to be something you can live with the rest of your life.

not exactly true. even people who lose weight slowly and "fix" their relationship still get fat. you have to fix your metabolism by reverse dieting up to a higher caloric maintenance and avoid pufa/linoleic acid.

also there are meme diets that actually work like durian rider protocols where you eat unlimited carbs but keep protein kinda low, and fat < 30grams. or you can do true high fat (75-80% cals from fat) keto.

By the time I got out there it was already the next day and now my back killing me despite only doing my typical 10k steps. I give up, you win. Going to rest and only do 10k step daily until my back feels better again.

Yeah protein powder and honey basically. Maybe cacao and milk if you want even more real chocolate flavor keep in mind cacao is calorically dense.

I did low sugar almond milk, rolled oats, greek yogurt, chia seeds, little bit of honey, and chololate protein. This without the protein powder tastes great especially if I add fruit. With protein powder it tasted way worse.

and instead of beef you can do beef broc with pork sirloin or even chicken breast. just slice them finely
