>Who is /fat/ for?
For hydrated heavies working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I haven't been to the gym, but I've been doing calisthenics since I began losing weight last year and I am very happy I've been doing that especially the more weight I lose. Seeing muscle development as I lose weight has been a strong motivator for me to continue with my efforts.

this is why i always eat two bowls of cereal the night before a weigh in. first of all i wake up immediately against the clock. no rest for the wicked as they say. after laying down my first mulch poo i'll have about 10-15mins of movement before i go back in there for some extra tipping. after being up for half an hour i have dressed the toilet bowl down pretty swell and am ready for the stage

He means in the long term. Fasting, like most crash diets, isn't sustainable and don't teach healthy practices. No one goes into fasting as a long term solution to manage their weight, they do it to shed weight as fast as possible and then try to figure out how to eat right once they're skinny. Then they invariably yo-yo the weight right back on because they skipped over the learning how to eat properly part.

Healthy habits is a meme aswell. Fat people who have tried to lose weight for a long time know very well what foods are high in calories, protein etc. But it really doesn't matter because eventually conscious decision making is overriden by bodily cravings and you eat 10,000 calories in a single day.
There was an interesting trial once where they only accepted people in a Mounjaro trial if they managed to lose 5% of their original weight without any help beforehand so as to find highly motivated people. The treatment group lost a huge amount of weight, as expected of course, while the placebo group gained some weight.

I mean it does make sense to talk about the pros and cons of fasting. If you're young and extremely obese, not diabetic and your cholesterol is under control, fasting for multiple days with a high protein diet in between can be highly beneficial. If you're old, frail, thin, diabetic and have sky-high cholesterol, don't fast under any circumstances.

If you're in this thread, it means you're fat, which means that you can't control your food intake and don't have healthy eating habits. Going from eating too much, too frequently, of the wrong things to starving yourself is not a great way to develop a healthy relationship with food.

In a rut bros. Iโ€™ve gotten sober and now I have nothing to look forward to. On my off days all I do, and want to do, is lay in bed and look at stupid shit on the internet and browse four channel. I was able to force myself to play vidya with the boys while they got drunk and high. The whole time I just was waiting for it to be an appropriate time to log off so they dont get upset that Iโ€™m a super fucking boring person now. I had to quit drinking for my health and now I basically just want to kill myself lmao Iโ€™ve stopped caring about losing weight, riding my bike, rooning, vidya, reading.. my life is literally go to work, sleep, go to work, sleep; with no fun or social aspect to it whatsoever. I just had to eat less. I use cronometer to track my food and it automatically updates my goal calories based on my weight. My scale syncs with it so it automatically updates when I weigh myself.

I set it to 1000 kcal deficit, my TDEE is 2161 kcal not counting exercise, so I've got a daily limit of 1161 kcals I can eat. It sucks, I know some anons tell you not to add exercise calories to your daily limit but I do, if the machine tells me I burned 611 kcals well I can eat 1772 kcals today.

Overrall my diet used to have more variety, but as I got closer and closer to goal weight it became a lot harder to fit my goals within the allotted calories and I've had to cut out a lot of the sides I was having. Berries, Fruits, snacks of any kind. Mostly just eating some kind of lean meat and a leafy green vegetable everyday now. When I hit my goal weight and start maintance I'll have a lot more calories to spend, maybe not enough to eat a whole chicken again, but I think I might be able to squeeze half a chicken in.

Yeah appetite loss is fairly typical on a 72-hour fast, but I'd recommend eating once 72-hours have passed, don't push it further than 72h. And you should only do a 72h fast once every other week or so. More than that and you start running into issues. Also you'll want protein, eat something light today, like a bowl of bone broth. Tomorrow get yourself a whole rotisseries chicken and eat it with some broccoli an a potato, rest of next week eat maintenance calories, then you can resume eating deficit for the week after that, then you can fast again the following week after that and repeat the cycle.

I know its tempting to do extended fasts longer than 72h but its really not worth it.

Take it from someone who has fasted 10 days before, better to start small.
First day you feel hungry, second day you feel weak, day 3-4 you feel great, 5-6 is fine, 7 you start feeling weak again , which gets worse from there on out. There's nothing worth such extreme intervals unless it's a religious or spiritual thing. Stick to 3-4 days, refeed, then go again if you feel like it.

I'm not the anon you are beefing with, and if drugs help you lose weight, go right ahead.
I think it's a lot because people equate a healthy body with a moral character, after all being fat shows a lack of restraint which shows a lack of determination, which is a form of weakness. If you can skip to the healthy body with drugs, then that also means you can skip to the appearance of moral character and that feels inherently wrong to them.
That being said, do you really plan to stay on them forever? I guess this is a personal problem of mine, but the idea of taking medication, no matter which, forever is scary to me. Same reason I never got how people did gear or fin.
Is it not an option to take it, lose the weight, stop taking it and then learn to maintain that level healthily, which is much easier than massive sustained weight loss? Or would that just repeat the cycle?

The thing is, you can take meds for XX years and if you suddenly feel like stopping you can just stop and will still have enjoyed their benefits for that time period. Think of them as a temporary solution that you forget about.
>Is it not an option to take it, lose the weight, stop taking it and then learn to maintain that level healthily, which is much easier than massive sustained weight loss?
Studies show that even the most motivated individuals regain a significant amount of weight when switched to placebo or taken off the drug. The impact on appetite levels is huge with those types of drugs. All those redditors coping about how GLP1 just help them make healthy decisions are lying to themselves. GLP1 makes them feel like they ate 5-10x their usual portions which is how they can't eat as much anymore.

GLP1 have a protective effect on the liver and newer versions like retatrutide have even shown to effectively burn away all fat from fatty liver.
Why do you guys insist that there must be some negative long term effect from GLP1 when it has been used in diabetics since 2005 and been researched since the 1980s. You guys are petty as fuck holy shit.
Should I make a list of side effects from "natural" weight loss? People have died from dieting before did you know that? We should better all stay fat because everyone knows that being fat is just a cosmetic condition.

A significant decrease in anthropometric and glucometabolic parameters, insulin resistance, liver enzymes, and laboratory indices of hepatic steatosis was observed during treatment. Similarly, fat mass and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) decreased over time more than skeletal muscle and free-fat mass. US-assessed VAT thickness and the 12-point steatosis score also declined at T3 up to T12. Liver steatosis improved in most patients (70%), showing a reduction by at least one class in the semiquantitative US staging. Conclusion. Besides glucose control and body composition improvements, Semaglutide was effective in ameliorating the clinical appearance and severity of NAFLD in T2D patients

Went from 5'9 410 lbs to 192 currently

Damn. That's incredibly impressive. You're honestly an inspiration. I've started on a similar plan yesterday, though admittedly my starting weight is a lot smaller. Hope it goes well and I can stick to it.

>But it really doesn't matter because eventually conscious decision making is overriden by bodily cravings and you eat 10,000 calories in a single day.
NTA. Part of learning healthy habits is finding ways to satiate the urge to eat large portions of palatable foods. Theres lots of intensely flavorful and filling healthy foods. Its good to learn what they are and how to acquire them in convenient and inexpensive ways as you lose weight. You can also accept your large appetite and use it to your advantage by lifting and doing cardio to fuel your muscle growth and cardio endurance gains. By all means though, use chemical assistance, I wont judge you for it.

Do you take into account the energy needed for your body to digest the food? I mean, if you eat a diet rich in proteins your body consumes a lot of energy to digest it, so you need slightly more calories

Are you me? It's fucking brutal. I was completely, and I mean COMPLETELY useless for the first month which was first terror, then existential crushing boredom, then total apathy punctuated by random mindfuck sugar craving/binges.

Here is what worked and is still working for me. First I got a dunbwatch with a stepcounter like picrel. I started wearing it everywhere to get a rough baseline of my activity levels because I could not trust my own judgements of it. Buy one and start wearing it all the time.

Second, I stopped eating anything that wasn't meat, eggs, greek yogurt, vegetables, or fruit. Still am. Get cheap tupperware. Shred up rotisserie chickens. Dice up watermelons, cantalopes, strawberries, grapes, oranges, mangos, whatever looks good. Cut up broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, cabbage, onions, peppers, whatever you can choke down. Hard boil a dozen eggs at a time. Get low sugar high protein yogurts like Siggis, etc. Start drinking black coffee. Get good olive oil. Eat whatever the fuck you want but only this. Get autistic.

What happens will suck at first because like withdrawing from the sauce, you have to withdraw from "normal" food and all the horseshit in it. But you'll cut over in a week or two, and you'll feel it.

When you do feel it, time to literally fucking walk everywhere like a homeless nomad. This is your new "drinking" habit. You are a force of nature, part of nature, sent by God to collect random information about anything and everything. Walk through a park. Walk to the store. Walk through the store. Walk behind the store. Walk by nice houses, walk by shitty houses, walk to a school, walk near a creek, walk by a busy street, walk down a country lane.

Think about what you see and periodically summarize it to yourself. This way when you get into a conversation, you have an easy topic for autism
>yeah been walking a lot, step 8742 so far
>creek's looking pretty high
etc. Also 20mg melatonin @10pm + NA IPAs = almost real beer

Fatty Contest

179.2lbs

I feel like its basically time for me to drop out. I have a small bit of fat to lose, but I don't think my weight is really gonna go down much more, but more important I don't know if it should go down more.
I've hit the point where people I know keep doing the, "whoa dude, you should eat something" "you're like crackhead skinny!", which is hilarious when I still have little bits of fat on my stomach and legs

Either way, I appreciate all the help here, it was a massive reason why I actually lost all of this weight, so thank you. truly WAGMI/WMI

My kidney problems really have me spooked. I'll go to the doctor on monday so I'm not sure yet, but kidney stones seems like the most likely diagnosis to me right now. This has totally ruined my diet because basically everything I've been eating other than meat, eggs and quark is very high in oxalates.

Dark chocolate, matcha, berries, beans, dates, anything wholegrain, it's all on the lists of foods to avoid when you're prone to kidney stones. Also Coke Zero due to the phosphoric acid. Amaranth is ABSURDLY high in oxalates and I eat it basically every day, albeit only about 10 grams daily.

I think I'll just go full carnivore for a week or so and try to think of other things to eat in the meantime.

Finally got my rabbinic rites for future skin surgery... BMI papers pre-weightloss to prove it.
I went from 109.8 to pretty much hovering 99.5-100 range now.
So far just eating less and eating cleaner. (No snacks, sugar and stuff like that.)
Added some basic dumbbells no guides, just doing what I kinda saw others do on TV as a kid, curls lifting into a T pose and above my head, basic stuff. Only 3kg each hand cuz I only have muscle on my calves.
Now the issue...
WW3 is coming soon TM.
Any reason not to stop my health improvement journey? Currently I got hernias and shit too which I'm trying to fix.
I'm in Hungary and I'm afraid of getting drafted desu. as there is no age limit and I'm only 29 anyways.
Been unironically considering eating myself to death after the Iran happenings last night, but so far I didn't.

It doesn't help that I saved up like 6-7 months of my meager wagie earnings which amounts to like 5k โ‚ฌ. Most money I ever had since I was a complete NEET from 18-27.
Now they say digital money is coming with an expiry date, I already had to download some digital citizenship app for some health related stuff...
Considering blowing it all on a new phone, crap ton of hard drives and a NAS to hoard digital stuff before they censor the net. I'll never have a comfy commie era "Kรกdรกr cube TM" with a rose garden in some rural village where I can be a hermit by saving up anyways.
Only positive news is that I at least feel somewhat of an improvement, but not too much.
I expect it to be mega noticeable once I'm closer to 90 or 85kg. Not visually just general well-being.

I'm demoralized as hell and I do believe for good reason.
How do you guys keep motivated with your goals when shit is actually fucked?

I posted it this way because when I previously made a post about wanting to regain weight fast for a doctors visit some anon called it rabbinic rituals or whatnot.
Basically I needed to be officially weighed so once I'm done with the whole weight loss the healthcare I pay for will cover the skin surgery.
So the proper documentation is the "rabbinic ritual" here. Just a joke.

Maybe if they don't end the world in like half a year or so I will be fit enough to escape to an old abandoned building with some supplies.
So yeah losing weight might end up being the safer play.

You weigh the chicken raw always.

With fish and seafood it's slightly more difficult because it has a water glaze often.
Personally I just log it raw, my assumption is that the kcals at the back are for the raw shrimp, unless otherwise specified (like how sometimes it specifies the kcals are for the drained contents if liquids are involved).

I'm not going to argue because I don't know you or your situation anon, but there is a strong correlation between not existing IRL (staying at home, chilling indoors, not having social contacts, not having hobbies outside your room) and dooming. Personally I think if you try to improve your life - in terms of physical fitness (weight, muscle, cardio) - but also mental fitness (working towards a goal, being balanced from day to day, not being depressed, having a social circle, getting therapy if needed) you'll be happier for it. And I promise a lot of the problems that seem so real and important right now will fade in importance.

The kcals aren't given by god, they are measured in a lab - and for that they use the base item (usually raw).
That means if they measure how many kcals 100g of raw chicken have then that's the measurement.
As you rightfully said, if you cook chicken it loses weight, mostly water. That means the weight of the chicken goes down, but the caloric content doesn't - after all what left it is water, which has no calories.
So if you use the cooked weight as a measurement you're going to overshoot.
The reason they use raw as a base is because "cooked" has too many variables - what if I cook mine shorter or longer than you? That would massively change the weight, but not the calories.

Forgot to mention - if the item is pre-cooked from the packaging plant, so for example you buy chicken strips or something like that, then of course the base information is for the cooked item not the raw one.
The variability issue doesn't exist here because the average amount of done-ness is known from the factory, so they can give you a pretty good estimate.

So you mean that even if I get the calories for the cooked food (usually comes with the method i.e. boiled/grilled/roasted/etc.) and I cook it without any additives it still isn't really reliable enough and I should instead weigh it raw first before cooking?
What if I'm cooking in batches, do I have to weigh the raw chicken first, then the cooked, then figure out the ratio of the weight lost and adjust my portions (counting the calories by the raw weight) by that ratio?

It would be preferable and more reliable, yes. Then again it's up to you if you think that deviation is small enough that you don't care.

>What if I'm cooking in batches, do I have to weigh the raw chicken first, then the cooked, then figure out the ratio of the weight lost and adjust my portions (counting the calories by the raw weight) by that ratio?
Log the ingredients raw, cook it, then divide the end result by amount of portions. Getting it gram accurate after cooking when logging it raw is too much tism to be maintainable.

Just total the calories for the entire batch and then divide it by however many portions you're making. It won't not be 100% accurate for each day but it will be over the course of the week.

because it makes retards seethe, here is a reminder of why fasting is good for you:
When we eat:
>food spikes insulin, which regulates how food energy is processed.
>carbs are turned into glucose and immediately used by the body's cells, excess glucose gets converted into glucagon, and once the max has been stored, the rest is turned into fat (de novo lipogenesis)
>proteins are broken down into amino acids and absorbed, excess is turned into glucose
>fats are directly absorbed and have the lowest insulin response, can be absorbed in fat cells or the liver

when we fast:
>insulin levels drop and the liver releases glucagon to supply energy to the body. the stores are depleted after 24-36 hours
>the liver will then break down amino acids and produce new glucose (gluconeogenesis), enough for the body's needs
>low insulin levels stimulate lipolysis and triglycerides are broken into glycerol and fatty acid chains, which are used in protein synthesis and gluconeogenesis
>fatty acids are also used to produce ketone bodies, which fuel the brain. two types are produced: betahydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate
>human growth hormone (HGH) levels rise, which protect lean body mass
>blood glucose levels are maintained via glycerol and gluconeogenesis
>the majority of the body's fuel is supplied by the breakdown of fatty acids and ketones
>norepinephrine levels prevent a decrease in metabolic state
>some protein is lost but it wasn't being used anyway

when you fast, your body breaks down triglycerides into glycerol and ketones, which it uses for energy
when you fast, your BMR doesn't drop
when you fast, the body preserves LBM and muscle
when you fast, HGH rises and adrenaline is used to release glycogen and facilitate fat burning
if you're concerned about gallstones, then just do shorter fasts (>72 hours)
there's no reason to dislike fasting
there's no reason to be afraid of fasting
except that people can't use it to make money off you

How do you all faggots+ deal with the mental fog? Like the stomach cramps and shit from hunger I can deal with. It taking forever to fall asleep I can deal with, but the fucking mental fog is killing me.

I'm self-employed in a field that's fairly mentally taxing, and trying to get 8 productive hours in a day is already ass. But then I get home and my brain just refuses to do anything for the rest of the day. I used to enjoy creating art and playing chess, and if I try either now my mind is just blank as I stare soullessly ahead.

I can do some physical shit, I can get my steps in or hit the gym, but anything that involves using my brain in any meaningful capacity is just impossible. I think this might be what people on antidepressants feel.

Do yall niggers just lay in bed or watch some absolute garbage on netflix for 4 hours a day or what the fuck?

Currently I just drink a "sports drink" that is like 40 calories and I feel more alive than ever each time I have it.

It genuinely makes me feel significantly better. Don't dare to drink them every day though... could be bad for some organ idk.
Any suggestions?

Been fighting to stay below 200 lbs for probably years now. I've made good progress the last 2 months, I think. I just need one last push to get me into the low 170s before I'm comfortable. Pretty much nobody is capable of doing real work for 8 hours, then hitting the gym and getting any actual results, then going home and maintaining a family and staying in touch with all their friends, and then devoting a meaningful amount of time and energy to a hobby like painting and playing chess and studying philosophy, and then getting 8 hours of quality sleep, but yeah I'm sure you can do all that while also starving yourself if you take a multivitamin and drink some Gatorade lol. NO, NIGGA. THAT IS SHIT! You need magnesium and potassium for your brain to work. potassium is extremely difficult to get enough of even if you eat to bulk, but if you take too much of it you may have a heart attack so every supplement doses it way too low like yours there. Get a potassium only supplement and don't exceed the daily allowance. Also get some good quality magnesium like the malate variety, citrus acts like a laxative and is barely bio available but is the most commonly sold for some fucking reason.

6' 238lbs, goal weight: 200lbs.
Lifting 3 times a week and doing cardio sessions 3 times a week.(650 calories burned per cardio session)
Estimated TDEE: 2774 calories.
Daily caloric cap: 2100 calories.
Planned caloric deficit: -674 calories.

Is MyFitnessPal an accurate measurement tool for calories and macros? Could it possibly be overestimating my protein consumption? The reason I ask is that I'm uploading my weighed and consumed food to the platform, but chatgpt and Google gemini are calculating vastly different results.

Food intake:
200g of cooked basmati rice
450g of cooked egg whites
400g of cooked extra lean ground beef

Myfitnesspal:
Calories: 1200
Protein:177g
Carbs: 57g
Fat: 22g

Chatgpt
Calories: 1374
Protein:156g
Carbs: 57g
Fat: 64g

Gemini:
Calories: 1158
Protein:145g
Carbs: 59g
Fat: 36g

my mom got rid of hers by drinking lemon juice mixed with olive oil. she's big on natural remedies. good luck. don't feel bad, it can happen to anyone. you might even enjoy your new diet. also, you don't have to give up those foods forever- even now you can just eat them less frequently or in smaller portions.

don't feel foolish for trying to lead a healthier life. your body will heal and you can still achieve your goals. i remember you saying that you shouldn't be giving people advice about what to eat. i disagree with that opinion. we often learn a lot more from our mistakes than from our successes.

You can buy a $5 cone for a single serving or buy a 1 liter tub for $15. For the sake of eating habits, it may have been smarter to just have the cone and then go home but I thought I may as well buy the tub and stick it in my fridge

I usually lift 6x a week and do cardio 3x a week, Sunday has been my resting day but I've been feeling lonely lately from all the indoor cardio, might go for a walk tomorrow to just look at nature and appreciate the world, only issue is that it's kinda freezing outside.

Fat nigga logic. Spend less if you know you are going to eat it regardless. The moment you paid for it you committed to those calories so why not get less if the goal is to eat less

MyFitnessPal is accurate on the egg whites for macros.

It is not accurate for the rice unless the packaging info is calculated uncooked and MyFitnessPal is calculating cooked.

There is no nutritional info printed on my extra lean ground beef

i decided to eat less meat today and it's been a struggle to stay under my TDEE. maybe you should cook up some lean ground beef or steak with onions and just eat that. that's what i usually do but i know it's best to have a balanced diet and i've been going too hard on the protein lately. it's very satisfying. i think i'll make salmon tomorrow if i can find a good deal on it.
