Why does everyone on this board pretend 225lbs on any of the lifts is nothing, as a natty? That is legitimately weight that you can hurt yourself with or even die from, and I'm speaking in terms of being natty, if you're a roider then don't talk

Genuinely curious why the moment you say you bench or squat 225 for a few reps max, you get called a jeet, third worlder etc.

Cuz if you lift or put in any effort you'll realize how pathetic those numbers are.

I was 5'11 150 pounds, only able to bench 95 pounds for 5 reps and squat 135 for 8 and unable to do a single pull up. Completely out of shape nerd who just played video games for 10 years getting 0 exercise. It only took me 8 months of 6x a week PPL to get to a 215 X5 bench, and a 240x3 squat and I can now do 16 full ROM pull ups.

Any amount of dedication for less than or around a year should put any young adult close to or above those numbers.

2pl8 bench is solidly intermediate. 2pl8 squat is the high end of novice. 2pl8 deadlift is nearly untrained. The fact that most normies will never see these numbers in any of these lifts just proves the average person is subhuman.

Well it certainly isn't the big number that beginners think it is. I'm literally at 1/2/3/4 all 5x5 now and I still look skinny

They're good lifts sure, and you'll be stronger than probably 80% of other gym goers, but it's nothing amazing. I wouldn't say you're truly a big dog till you can bench 3 plates (as long as you do so without being a 300lbs lardass)

Because they are regular gym goers and have inflated expectations. 85% of people don't go to the gym. 75% of those that do go just run on a treadmill or fuck around with exercise machines with no real plan or drive. A 225lb bench easily puts you in the >95th percentile for strength, because actually showing up to the gym and staying consistent with your program is extremely difficult for the general population.

This is completely true. However, OP did say "any of the lifts" and 225 on squat or deadlift is not impressive. You should be able to reach 225 squat within like a month of competent training, and a typical man should be able to deadlift 225 untrained, in all honesty. At most just needing to show him how to set up and pull it.

But to your point, this is why we really should make a differentiation between proper training and "fuckarounditis". Yes, most people in the world don't exercise whatsoever, and of the small portion that do, most don't bother with any proper programming, don't care about the main compounds, don't care about learning proper technique, etc. But lmao2plate bench is still an INTERMEDIATE milestone, because it's something that is very attainable to any guy who actually spends just a little time practicing and training. The fact that the overwhelming majority of people don't bother doesn't change this.
Anonymous No.76264589 >>76264612 >>76265251
I get that statistics say like only small percentage of all gym goers can bench 225, but it's a shit comparison.
Like others have said, most gym goers are quitters, complete retards with no idea of how to work out, you have to compare yourself to dedicated lifters which probably is like 10% of all gym goers. Don't compare yourself to gray masses, compare yourself to people with brains if you see yourself as someone with a brain. Then 225 becomes pretty mediocre. Intermediate. I was able to bench 225 for 3 in my first 4-ish months of lifting @ 6ft1 195lbs.

Anyone with any sense realizes it is easier to squat 750lb ass to grass than it is to shoulder the weight of our feelings. If my 120lb squat looks light, then that's because you can't see I have the weight of the world on my back too.

You can run from the truth, but can you shoulder it? Most go to the gym because they can't. Most power lifters and body builders are actually the best cardio athletes. You didn't know that? Well, they've been so unwilling to consider their hearts, they've been running from them their whole lives.

>You should be able to reach 225 squat within like a month of competent training,
If you start at 115 and add 5 lbs a workout and squat 3 days a week it should take you 18 workouts or 6 weeks. A more realistic rate, squatting twice a week and maybe adding 10 lbs the first couple workouts instead of 5, would be 10 weeks. So 2.5 months for a normal guy who is committed to it.

where in his post did he mention ohp. Not all muscles are created equal.
If your legs have weak lifts something is wrong.
Your legs literally hold your body up they should be strong.
OHP and upper body lifts not being comparable is normal

if you bait people like that they'll go up too quickly
maybe like 2 squats a week 1 deadlift a week for 4 months would get you there...

I was 195lbs when I started weightlifting and hit 225 bench for 3 for the first time. That was like march(?) last year.

I stopped going to the gym for a few months at the start of 2025 due to overwhelming things going on in life/work and now started back up.
I'm 210 rn (95-97kg fluctuating). I do 112.5kg 3x8 flat bench and 42kg db incline bench (30deg) for 3x8-10 currently.

I did gain a bit of fat and lost some of the strength I had, but I've gained it all back by now. I'd say I'm far from fat. I look pretty skinny. I just have a bit of retard strength I guess.
I don't think someone who looks like me should be able to push that much weight. I see bigger looking men struggle with 225 for 5 while that's just part of my warmup.

>100kg is intermediate
Delusional. You should look up the word "intermediate." Because you are currently implying that benching 90 kgs/200 lbs is "beginner" and that means you are retarded.

NTA but I think it is a beginner weight?
My first day at the gym I did 70kg 3x6 bench and I was VERY weak.
I had this excel file where I was keeping track of my workouts. Have a screenshot of it.

26 - I hit 1pl8 OHP
35 - I hit 2pl8 bench.

I was chasing numbers like mad tho, doing low rep ranges (4-6) just to get to these numbers.
Anything that can be done within first year is very much so "begginer" tier, no? Assuming you lift for life.

Most men should be able to bench 90kgs for 1 rep unless they are completely onions, desk job IT nerds and their starting point is 40kg.

It's a matter of perspective. 225 bench is nothing to me, but then in my adult life I've rarely weighed less than that. Anything less than your own body weight is not impressive (unless you're like obese or something).
