if you walk for 3mph for the entire 16 hours you're awake, you'd walk 48 miles and burn about 4800 calories. idk if ancient armies did that much but I remember hearing that people were really impressed that the army of alexander the great could sustain 30 miles of marching a day for weeks at a time
