depends on the person, everything is pretty much pseudo science until proven otherwise.

jap studies say they have the best posture, but there are also those african tribes where you sleep natural (slumped over on your side) and they have pretty much no posture issues either.

If you're sleeping on your back your tongue is relaxing into your throat causing you to choke and you probably wake up multiple times doing it in the night but if you say side sleeping does it too >>76272704 not entirely sure if you havent tried stomach sleeping. There's a lot of other factors you'd have to take a look at your o2 levels, breathing ability, diet you could be regurgitating stomach acid into your throat while you sleep. My advice from when I used to work as a medical tech troubleshooting stuff like cpaps and oxygen machines is to figure out the actual cause yourself and get off of them as quickly as possible.

Any machine you have to use for something you should be able to naturally do will make your body dependent on the machine as time goes on, you probably realize this but the main thing is there's something else going on than you just not being able to sleep through the night without many interruptions. This particular thing I found is very hard to diagnose I actually would recommend you record yourself sleeping one night to see what you're specifically doing like
>coughing
>clearing your throat
>snoring very loud
>wheezing
This is a good basis to work from imo and then you can branch off into figuring it out more

>inb4 fat

It doesn't matter.
You can take your reddit cope somewhere else.
The single most common factor greater than 9/10 cases of sleep apnea is being higher BMI.
Your body fat doesn't matter, your body cannot support your mass any longer.
Even if it is all muscle you've lost the ability to naturally lift your chest up and breathe because fo the sheer amount of weight of your chest cavity.
Which causes your chest to be pinned to the bed, so when you breathe and your neck lifts up slightly it constrains and chokes you.
Cope somewhere else you need to lose weight.
Even 10lbs overweight is enough to cause sleep apnea.

Adding to this too, the only time I ever found someone in the year I was working in the med tech that 100% needed to be on supplemental oxygen was an old aluminum welder where I could hear his lungs were shot from breathing in that shit. Im sure there was a few others but everyone else was either obese or didn't seem to understand they didn't have to take the devices if they didn't want to. A lot of the patients were just getting blanket treatments of oxygen for being old and having a cough. I just assume most people don't care to figure out what's actually wrong with them and just want someone else to do it for them so anyone reading keep that in mind that docs deal with patients that will just accept any treatment

True for most but not always. Skellys can get it too. Its just anatomical bad luck.
In my case 10 years ago I was 250lbs with no sleep apnea. Cut down to 180lbs or so at 6'2" then started roiding. When I hit about 220lbs I developed sleep apnea. Neck size and the mass in my chest and shoulders prevents me from expanding my chest to breathe when I sleep.
Lean roiders have it worse than natty fattys because with regular fat people all the mass is lower in their abdomen.
I also have a deviated septum which is another risk factor.

tdlr most sleep apnea patients are just lard asses but skellies and muscular men can get it too. Its caused by a lot of factors.

Dude it's great than 9/10 cases.
>but hungry skeleton can get it
okay so they are like 0.5% of all cases.
Like i'm not trying to be mean here dude.

The single largest factor in putting sleep apnea in remission or curing it is losing weight.
Second by doing rib cage flare prevention exercises.
>TLDR due to compensation from sheer amount of weight the ribcage lifts up at the abs since it can no longer dynamically expand in a three dimensional plane any longer

Why do I know this? because I am a skinny person with abnormal obstructive sleep apnea.
Guess what still helped symptoms though?
losing even more weight.

Your body has an absolute limit to what it can support.
Your lungs can only support x mass, your heart can only support x mass, your liver can only filter a specific amount of blood at X total mass.
Any mass above these factors has clear health negatives and that is what sleep apnea effectively is a symptom of. Too much mass.

There is a reason every meat head has to use these machines.

I highly doubt he is 6'5''.
I highly doubt he is 196lbs of pure lean muscle.
I highly doubt.

Even if he is an inch and a half shorter, which is probably very likely. 196lbs would put him into low-overweight BMI.
Which has a risk factor 10 times higher for sleep apnea than high-healthy BMI.
That risk factor only goes up as you move into medium-overweight into high-overweight and eventually into low-obesity.

High-Healthy BMI is the most body mass you can have without having a clear risk for sleep apnea, heart disease, etc, etc.
This is a clear and defined correlation AND causation.
Once again your bodies organs can only support X mass at any given moment.
Just because some bloat lords body can support his body mass doesn't mean your organs can support yours.
There is also the possibility that, THAT ANON holds all of his weight in his upper body namely in the chest/shoulders/neck.
Which if this is true he still needs to lose mass in this region as part of his rehabilitation.

Since the only proven way to put sleep apnea in remission is by lowering body mass. Since it drastically improves mobility, while lowering heart/lung effort.

I'm obese, got sleep apnea.
Solve it by sleeping on the sides.

Protip, you need to tilt your body up so head isn't below level/below your heart or in a way so blood pools up in your upper body.
More volume of blood in your neck, more pressure on the breathing apparatus.

Your nostrils, in a majority of people, alternate between blocking one off to moisturize it. If you have one side that is more blocked than the other, sleeping on that side usually is worse.
For me it's my left side, also puts more pressure on my heart. This leads to me getting less oxygen, resulting in nightmares. To solve that, I prop my back up with an extra blanket so I can lean less on the side and the pressure is less and works just fine.

Nose tape would probably fuck you up in the long run, drying them out. Nosebleeds, maybe even less smell.

OP, I've read the thread.

Anon, you and I are very similar. I'm 6'4", 225 lbs, and 11% BF. I do three days of HIT cardio a week and run 10k with less than 4:15 minutes a km. Everybody telling you to lose weight here is a fucking retard.

I got diagnosed with OSA in October. Nasal strips, septum surgery, changing positions, changing diet, has all done jack shit.

You have two options: oral mandibular appliances, which may work if your OSA is mild to moderate. Ask your GP for a referral to a clinic that can fit you for one. Otherwise, CPAP is the gold standard, and all the literature supports it. There are a variety of sleep masks, some nasal cannulas, and some full-face face. Find what works for you. It's worth it and life-changing. This is the best advice you will receive. The risks over the lifespan are immense.

t. otter anon with cpap and a real background in medicine.

FFMI interpretation
The calculated normalized ffmi can be interpreted using the tables below. You also need to consider that the interpretation for men and women will be different, so there are 2 tables.

FFMI score for men
FFMI Body fat Description
17-18 10-18% Skinny man
18-20 20-27% Average man
19-21 25-40% Fat man
20-21 10-18% Athlete / Intermediate gym user

So that is BMI = 23.6
If you go up to 156lbs you are overweight.

Your Fat free mass index is 20,030 which barely puts you in the athlete / gym user category

Do you know what this means anon? If you where to gain 10lbs of muscle you are considered overweight category of BMI.
If you gain 5lbs of muscle and 5lbs of fat you are considered overweight. You are probably lying about your stats but the point remains.

Lets say you gain 5lbs of muscle and stay at 15% body, you will be 20,579 which is still withing the average gym goer category.

I've been approximately your size before, about 6'4" 200lb, and now more like 330 with no noticable difference in sleep quality, even though most other superheavy guys I know use a CPAP. So I don't think that it's as simple as absolute weight, muscle or otherwise.

OP I saw this thread yesterday and wanted to reply but I was too lazy. Okay, so I am a turbofat and leaving my sleep apnea untreated is what got me to be 400 lbs.

My advice is you get a nasal pillow mask and surgical tape (other tapes are not suitable for contact with skin and leave a difficult to remove residue like duct tape) and tape your mouth. The first few nights will leave the inside of your nostrils raw so apply vaseline before bed and after you wake up. Apply to the inside of your nostrils. Alternatively get the pic related map. Also there's an Aussie guy on Youtube that talks about sleep apnea and related treatments. Check him out. I think it's CPAP reviews. There's an open source program calle OSCAR download that and learn to use it, it will tell you in detail how your sleep is progressing. You'll need to take the microSD card out of your machine and put it into your computer to get the data. Also try a nasal spray with azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate. This can really open up your nasal passages.

I haven't tried but apparently something called an O ring is called for measuring the oxygen saturation of your blood and that will tell you how good your sleep is.

I've read the other posts here and you are not fat but you might have some wrong with teeth and jaw, and/or your septum being deviated. Really look into fixing the core issue. Another thing to do would be is to increase your metabolism. How many calories are you eating a day?

>y-you just have no muscle!!
>*gut jiggles*
>VICTIM WEIGHT!!!
Yeah I'd be pretty built too if I had to carry my own fucking body weight + 20lbs 24/7
Too bad nobody can see it under all the blubber. Also we already established that muscle isn't any less stressful to the body than fat, so if you aren't even cut enough to see it, it may as well all be fat, it's just making you look fatter and straining your heart.
