Is it about training harder intensity or volume?
Say 5 X 5 set of pull-ups = 25
VS
2 X 5 in the morning - 1 x 5 at lunch - 2 X 5 at night = 25?
(However with the second method you can get more total volume and probably do like 3 X 5 morning 2 X 5 lunch 3 X 5 night and you are at 40 for the day but no sets to failure?).

I sometimes cycle between styles like this. Sometimes high intensity sets all together, sometimes less reps but with weighted vest, sometimes high volume spread over the day without going to completely failure, sometimes deload and just light sessions and if I can't do any of these properly it's time to rest the body.

A year ago I was still in college, I noticed that I weighted 230lbs, the most I've ever weighed.
I decided to start fasting, I ate around 700-1000 calories every 36-48 hours.
It was a grilled chicken sandwich. I also only drank water.

After a month of doing this I was back to 200lbs, not a great weight but it was my usual weight.
Fast-Forward today. A bit over a month ago I weighed 230lbs again. Ok I'll diet again, also start going to the gym.
Today, 231lbs. What the fuck happened?
I've been going to the gym multiple times a week for over a month.
I do 30 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of weight training.
The only difference between me today and 1 month ago is that I'm slightly stronger.

But I'm still on the deficit, why isn't the gym helping me lose even more weight than when I just fasted?

Yeah apparently I'm fucking myself because I don't really care about being strong or muscle mass I just want to be a skinny nerd.
I just thought that lifting weights and stuff would help me lose weight, my dad used to tell me that for some reason too.
but according to the people on here and some light research I did, lifting weights for weight loss is basically useless when you're a beginner like me.

lifting weights is one of the most important/healthiest hobbies you can have during this era as physical labor continues to decreases, lifting weights also does burn a considerable amount of calories and encourages your body to have a faster metabolism not to mention the more muscle you have the more calories your body will burn

tldr: lifting weights is good regardless of any goal and does also assist in losing fat mass

uh but compounds use alot of muscles. and you don't have to focus that much doing some sets. vs like cardio the same amount of time. you know what I'm saying?
and later the muscle increases your TDEE. so you can eat more.
but don't think the higher TDEE will make you lose weight. it will just let you eat more.

Lifting alone doesn't make you lose weight, it makes losing weight easier. This is both due to physical and mental factors. Your weight loss will have more meaning if you're lifting weights at the same time. You'll get more positive reinforcement when you look in the mirror and think you look swole af, which doesn't require a whole lot as a newbie. You say you want to be a skinny nerd, but I guarantee you'll be pleased when you see and feel the first signs of muscular development.
Buuuut weight loss happens in the kitchen.

I guess I'll try more cardio. I do at least 1 mile on the tredmill every time I go to the gym. which isn't a lot but its more than I did before and I still lost weight then. I also don't any consume soda or sugar in general anymore, just water and chicken like before. Its a little demotivating that I'm not losing weight but I guess I should be happy about getting more muscle mass.

>>76273056
Well I just started using the 17.5 lbs dumbbells for my dumbbell exercises, its a step up from the 15lbs I had been using the previous weeks.
I could probably do the 20lbs dumbbells but I'm trying to go for endurance and reps more than maxxing out.
I also do chest and back exercises, I have a gym friend that shows me what to do.

If you're gaining muscle and staying the same weight that means you're losing fat.
>I guess I'll try more cardio
Cardio is good, but it can't replace a good diet for weight loss. Doing too much of it can actually make things harder as your body will be screaming at you to replace those energy stores. An hour of moderate intensity exercise will burn about 300 calories, a banana is about 100 calories, a normal sandwich with some toppings might be about 300 calories. It's much easier to not eat the sandwich than it is to run for an hour.

The thing is to make the internet inane and boring, so people don't use it to organize. And it's working pretty well. Tbh you only need bots in the beginning, the brainlets will just copy them for fun after a while.

> I don't really care about being strong or muscle mass I just want to be a skinny nerd.

The problem with this line of thinking that's prevalent among fat/chubby men "I just want to be skinny/lean, I don't care about muscle", is that 99% of the time you'll end up skinny fat, unless you're genetically predisposed to it, it's extremely hard to get to sub 12% bodyfat without a decent amount of muscle mass.

Also even a small amount of muscle, say 10-15lbs which can realistically be achieved in 8-16 months for a beginner lifter, will do wonders for your frame, you'll look athletic skinny instead of nerd skinny.

>>76274136
>Similar levels of definition
I'm sorry this is just delusional, Vitruvian physique at his leanest didn't even get below 10% bodyfat. Meanwhile GVS was genuinely contest-level conditioned, well below 10%, probably around 6-7%

Pretty much. While I'm obviously not perfect, I have been lifting for 13 years and I have 3 national championship medals. One from weightlifting and 2 from other single player sports.

I have a pretty good idea on what is achievable naturally and what isn't, thanks to my background in competitive sports and over decade of recreational hypertrophy training. I can give some benefit of the doubt to "freaky genetics". Like if you have myostatin deficiency, absurd muscle insertions and full muscle bellies, it is theoretically possible to look significantly better than someone else as natural. But this applies to practically no one. 99,9999999999999999999999% of social media influencers are just average guys with average genetics, average knowledge, average intensity, average everything, but they take steroids.
