If you want to be accurate you must count the bar and also factor in friction due to air resistance, which depends on atmospheric pressure and humidity. You can use Mentzer's formula

It's assumed to be added because no adult man lifts less than 60kg so we define that as the zero point. Weight on the bar is just a relative quantity. Someone says I bench 100kg or 2pl8 that means 100kg on top of the bar and 1 plate on each side,so in kids or female weights it would be 160kg.

Here's one: do you count your own bodyweight in your squat? If I'm 335lbs and squatting 405lbs, it's surely more impressive/more weight really than when some 170lbs victim weight twink squats the same? 405 + 170 = 575, while 405 + 335 = 740 so I'm lifting more weight really right? Anyone who's done bodyweight exercises above 250lbs can tell you how much harder they are with extra mass, so surely this adds on to your squat number?
