I do dumbbell calf raises but I notice literally 0 difference even after weeks of progressive overloading (both weight and reps).
no noobie gains or anything, thinking about just cutting it out because I think mine are already as big as they can be (I used to be pretty chubby so maybe that's why, I was ironically a fast runner even with that weight).

Yes, having calves with more than 10% size difference from upper arm is extremely unaesthetic.

Dorian Yates built 22" calves. He worked up to 1,500 lbs Standing Calf Raises (Machine) for 12 reps. Nothing wrong with Dumbbell Calf raises if you get a good stretch, but I am grip-limited by them without straps.

Yeah but it doesn't do anything really. I haven't really noticed any change.
But I once bulked up pretty good (but not to the point I got like fat) I noticed stretch marks on my calves. Noticed that day that just getting heavier builds them the most and training does like 10% for me.

Once every 1,5 weeks or so to prevent calf aches which I get then and now. Less nowadays because I managed to correct my posture a bit, the calves were obviously overcompensating for other muscles. But it doesn't hurt to train them a bit.

yes last night this woman insisted on dropping me off at my home instead of letting me nightwalk to sober up and then drive myself home, so as soon as she dropped me off I turned around and walked/ran back to where my car was and drove home, took me like 50 minutes and I felt it in my calves afterward

I use the seated calf raise machines at my gym. They dont hit calves as much as I'd like. The best calf raise i ever did was with a little roller device you put under a Smith machine. Then you load up rhe Smith machine super heavy and do standing calf raises there. I think I'll ask the gym to buy one because the seated machines are kinda doo doo.

I do calf raises (on a platform for the extra range of motion) for 3x16 with the same weight I use for squats. While I've definitely build some mass on my once skinny calves there's definitely room for improvement. Clancy Ross incorporated 1 set of 100 reps of calf raises on his program (though with lower weight) and he has some impressive calf development despite having high set muscles. Do you lads think I should give the 100 reps thing a go?

My problem was too weak glutes (as a compilation of all glute muscles) despite having a big ass already so I suppose calves took much of the heat when simply going for walks made my feet hurt. Also some stretches daily or every other day on top of strengthening muscles. I figured that it can't be like this when just taking walks felt bad.

Back doing calf raises, seated calf raises and isometrics on calves and ankles. Injured gastroc and had sore tendons last year so have been a bit cautious reintroducing them. Times coming down but still slower than expected.

True, to a degree. I have big calves from autism and toe walking as a kid. One day I tried the calf raise machine at the gym and maxed it out for 12 reps of 405lbs with no prep or calf training to speak of.

No and they used to be pretty big since I used to run marathons, go running at the beach several times a week and shit like that, but for the past couple of years I've switched my training to more strength, hypertrophy based and less cardio and they've lost some size. Plus I work from home, and I used to be someone who walked a lot as a student. Think I might add some calf raises to make up for those changes.

Yes, and it's the only part of leg day that makes me feel good about myself.

Training legs as a naturally lean 6'3" guy sucks and my squats are pathetic relative to my other big lifts, but at least my calves are strong.

I've actually had a couple of people tell me that I have "very muscular legs" when I was wearing shorts, which obviously means calves because that's what you can see.

It's relevant to fitness because I went from walking all day every day as a student to not walk at all in my daily life from one year to the next. That life style change has a strong impact for fitness.

By far, my calf DOMS are the most painful and last the longest out of any muscle group. That means that they're likely underdeveloped, right? Or is it tender for everyone after a solid calf raises session?

gastrocnemius is wrapped around knee bones when u're doing calf raises - it's visible in this exact moment from side view:
https://youtu.be/PZqW_9Jv1rk?t=65
it fucks up contraction of soleus also because they are cojoined at ahilles tendon

u bend ankle and knee at the same time to work gastrocnemius, like so:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NfwtDIscQm8

>but soleus
knee must be bent to work it, so u stand in front of wall press knee/thigh into wall by bending your ankle, in climbing it's called kneebar move

>I do dumbbell calf raises but I notice literally 0 difference even after weeks of progressive overloading (both weight and reps).
that is exactly what u can expect from regular calf raises, cause u were looking in the wrong place, your rectus femoris certainly got thicker :D
