Whenever you're going to alcohol instead don't.
Simple as that.

For me it's having about 500ml of ethanol inside my body. Until then, I guess I'll drink.

Half a litre of vodka is kinda whack anon. Like drinking 10 pints of beer equivalent in terms of drunkenness.

I used to do that regularly. Most weekends, sometimes even after work. I then started pounding tallboy cans of beer on my workbreaks and toilet breaks. Then I almost lost my job. Got fat, became horribly depressed and lost everything, almost died too

Then I got sober. Rock bottom awaits

Honestly it was too tough for me, I just gave up and went to a psychiatrist and a combination of me being accountable to her and naltrexone finally did it. It's also helpful to mentally reframe it as trying to drink more water and get more exercise rather than thinking of it as "giving up" something you like if that makes sense. Also, look into getting another hobby you're really into since most of the time I was just drinking since I had nothing else to do. That's about all the advice I have, I've been sober for 13 months but I know it's tough.

Naltrexone won't fix the underlying issue, but it worked great for me in terms of shutting off the self-destructive daily drinking loop. If you're in that "can't have just one drink" phase, you're at the point where chemical intervention is preferable to trying and failing with willpower alone.

I used it daily for about six months and then was able to phase back into occasional social drinking without binging. I still keep a bottle in my travel pack as I travel frequently for work, and sometimes I'm stressed out and lonely in a hotel room with a minibar staring at me. Good for those situations.

I haven't had alcohol in over a week. I just stopped one day, and you can do the same. Remember, if you don't buy it, you can't drink it.

If you truly have the disease then I don't think you can unless something more or less forces you to.

I escaped and it was only really because I had to but I will spare you my blog.

My advice is generic and worn out: admit that you are powerless over it (step 1 in AA?) and don't be afraid to treat yourself like an idiotic child. Go to AA if you can but likely you won't until you hit rock bottom, such is life. A practical step I took was essentially to make it much harder for me to buy alcohol, for example I reduced my free income considerably to the point that I couldn't afford alcohol. I did this by increasing my mortgage repayments but you could set up automatic transfers to investment funds or whatever. There are other tricks you can use to stop yourself (at least initially and then it becomes easier) but they would obviously depend on your personal circumstances, the point is don't be afraid to control yourself and 'cheat' your way to sobriety, don't get hung up on the pride of wanting to do it through willpower or imagining you will find some real reason to quit, you already know there are enough reasons to quit so just do it in whatever way you can.

being in lock down due to covid stopped my drinking, you have to hate it more than the buzz it gives you, my hang over's last two days now, and going to work the next day is pure torture so I don't do it anymore.

I hit rock bottom and kept going. Nearly a bottle of vodka in total every other day. Wound up in the ER after falling down the stairs. Heard people lost their desire to drink after starting ozempic. Got a grey market vial and immediately lost the desire to drink. I generally don't even have the desire for more than half a beer now, half a beer used to mean a week long bender.
