Is sleep really THAT crucial? I've been lifting for about 5 months now (still a newbie), and I feel like I'm doing everything right, except sleeping. On weekdays, I only manage around 4–5 hours a night. Just wondering, how much is this holding back my progress?

Anon for fuck's sake...

Sleep is THE MOST fucking important thing in your entire life. It is the basis for everything else and lack of enough quality sleep fucks you over worse than doing drugs and shortens your life like nothing else.
So yes, 4 to 5 hours of sleep is holding you back severely.

I've been wondering the same. I normally wake up after about 7,5 hours on my own, and don't feel the need to go back to sleep again. When I force it and sleep more than that, I feel sluggish the whole day.

So still no answer huh. I make a veeeery slow progress in terms of progressive overload and maybe it's because of bad sleep patterns. Chatgpt says it could be the case

I get like 5 to 6 hours of sleep on average now and try to take naps when I can, I've definitely gained weight because of it because you just replace sleep with eating more calories
you need sleep man

Dunno I feel like sleep's overrated, and the 7 hour of sleep thing is pulled out of the ass. Sometimes I game till break of dawn and get like 2 hours of sleep and feel fucking fine. Sometimes I crash for 8-10 hours and feel equally fine. Most of the time I wobble somewhere between 4-7 hours. There's no real science of sleep so faggoty posts like

can be disregaded. Chronic deprivation is bad for you, obviously, but you know that by, well, feeling bad and wanting to sleep. I just think ideas like sleep debt are retarded, and regular sleep isn't all that relevant. Animals dont sleep regularly, maybe cause they don't need to wake up at 7am and rush to their wagie cagies.

I‘ve been lifting regularly for three years doing everything right except sleep (just have kind of a restless personality, plus caffeine and edging are my major vices) and haven‘t added more than 40 or 50 lbs to each of the major powerlifts. Sleep seems really essential.

Here's another thing I noticed
Many grifters selling people some kind of protocol always stress the importance of proper sleep, then when people complain that their protocol doesn't have the desired effect they can always blame not enough sleep
Because we all know most people don't get enough sleep and stay up at night for too long
It's an easy cop-out and just keeps reinforcing the meme of how super duper important le 8 hours of perfect sleep going to bed at 10pm is

Testosterone reach peak levels at three hours of sleep and then plateaus until you wake up, where it starts to drop throughout the day.

so what the fuck does that mean? Workout after 3 hours of sleep?

Don't know man only thing I realized in this "lifting business" is that it's a lifetime commitment so if I get to my target one year later because of le sleep I'm okay with it.
