What should I do with my hair? I've already ordered finasteride but am increasingly hesitant about taking it. I'm trying to fix other factors like sleep, eating, etc. with mixed success. I already take biotin and a bunch of other vitamins.

I'm midway through college and have been trying to get /fit/ in order to stand out but the hair loss is really throwing a wrench in that.

Hey, anon. To answer your question, hop on fin (1 mg, 3x - 7x a week based on your own results) if you wish to keep what hair you have. Add min if you see some regrowth. If you don't, you may as well give up on your hair. I'm not saying that's even the wrong course of action, but I don't want you to waste times with ineffective treatments. I had done the same, and it cost me an additional 1/2" of ground.

Rosemary blocks dht production, which is what causes hair loss, if you stop dht production or even lower it significantly you stop the hair loss.

Fenugreek activates hair growth, so if you take a rosemary supplement and a fenugreek Greek supplement at the same time you will stop the loss of hair and, due to fenugreek, cause hair to regrow.

Okay here's some real advice from a boomer who's pushing 40.

The reality is this: no matter what you do, there will be people who make fun of you for it. E.g. if you take fin or get a HT people will call you vain, superficial, insecure, etc... On the other hand if you shave your head people will make fun of you and call you baldie, slaphead, egghead, and so on.

So it comes down to what makes you feel good about yourself. You're young so there's a good chance that treatments can help you but at the same time that's quite aggressive hairloss for a 20 year old. Shaving it might be the best call for you. Depends how badly you want to keep your hair.

This isn't bad advice, as an older anon myself I'd agree with the shaving it route, and accepting what God almighty intends for you. Embrace it and move on, OP - focus instead on the aspects of your life you can control, like improving your body and mind, and save yourself hours and hours of checking your hair, combing it just right, worrying about wind and rain, constantly being self-conscious of it etc etc etc.

I tried the fin route, and ultimately can confirm it's not worth it. Taking these pills is a constant reminder of how vain we are in desperately (and pathetically) clinging onto youth/looks, for the sake of hair that eventually thins despite the fin, and turns grey. Can you imagine how much of a turn off it is for girls to find out you are so insecure that you take a hormone pill for thinning hair? As a 32 year old man with full head of hair, i can understand from my balding friends, how truly cucked being a baldie really is and I will explain why: Basically friend A is very religious Orthodox Christian and he is anti-fin, anti-hair transplant you name it, he is what God gave him but even he, he can't accept it. Listen up man, as someone who starting balding at 16 and i was norwood 3 going on norwood 4 at age 21 and having to shave my head to go to my college classes it was the most humiluating and demoralizing the time of my life. Now at age 24 i have thick full hair and norwood 1 hairline and better hair than 99% of people in public.

You need to do 2 things
1. you need to slow down or stop your balding, and thicken up the hairs in the middle and crown area.
2. you need to get a hair transplant to lower your hairline by an inch and fill the temples.

Some tips for point #1 to stop your balding:
-You need to get your vitamin D in the 40-60 range immediately. And not through pills you need to be walking in the sun all day without wearing a hat for hours everyday. literally homelessmaxxing. (sunlight increases dopamine, lowers prolactin, increase hair ATP, and increases vitamin D) This is the most important thing. its summer time right now if you're NEETmaxxing just start walking around all day in the sun without a HAT this is very important that the sunlight actually hits the scalp and hair follicles which are alive organs.

-And just stop wearing hats in general. not because of muh bloodflow restriction to scalp (thats debunked) but because hats are a hotbed of fungus and wearing the same sweaty hat multiple times in a row WILL cause fungal overgrowth. If you HAVE to wear a hat buy 7 hats and wear a different one everyday and wash it after every use. There is a reason ketoconazole - an anti-fungal is part of the "big 3" for hairloss. alot of balding guys are fucking themselves over with fungal overgrowth by wearing the same 3 hats all the time and not showering enough.

I dont recommend taking ketoconazole (lowers DHT) you can replicate the same antifungal effects from washing your hair with some backing soda. just dissolve a few tablespoons of baking soda in some water and pour it on your head in the shower and let it sit for a few minutes and massage it in. If you feel less "DHT itch" and scalp tension after doing this than congrats you had fungal overgrowth on your scalp.


-Do NOT take finasteride.

-Now for the most important points. YOU need to lower your estrogen / prolactin levels and keep your gut free of endotoxin.
-To lower estrogen do these things:
1. Supplement with a 325mg aspirin daily (gericare brand is clean)
2. Eat a carrot salad daily. the carrot will wipe your gut clean of estrogen and endotoxin. Did you know that 90% of serotonin (inflammatory turpor hormone) is created in the gut? and a big portion of estrogen is excreted through the gut and shitting? What does this mean? You need to be pooping at least 1 to 2 times daily and not have these inflammatory hormones fermenting in your gut to be reabsorbed. GUT inflammation is everything. Start counting how many poops you have a day. If you are not pooping 1-2 times. Increase coffee intake and supplement magnesium these will cause bowel movements.

-Make sure you are getting adequate sodium. salt your eggs meat fish to taste. (salt lowers aldosterone which is heavily implicated in balding)
-coconut water / milk / freshly squeezed oj for optimal potassium levels.

-Have 1-2oz liver once a week AND Have canned oysters in olive oil 1-2 a week to cover your micronutrients just to make sure you aren't deficient in some random micronutrient like zinc copper or b-vitamins.

-If you have the willpower; light scalp massage with fingertips / knuckles few minutes daily (10-20min) (lowers scalp cortisol / breaks up fibrotic scalp)

-stop eating PUFA immediately. No more chips or fast food cook in sneed oils. Try to get your PUFA under 15grams a day ideally. Increased PUFA intake is probably he reason for the early balding epidemic. its extremely pro inflammatory and we need to get you body to relax so it has enough energy to regrow your hair. You need to eat easily digesting real food. Milk, eggs, fruits (frozen / juiced / whole), ground beef, potatoes/bread/rice. Increase your carbohydrate intake and lower your protein intake slightly. You want abundant energy without eating pro inflammatory foods. You need to be eating maintenance or in a slight surplus. Do NOT start running marathons everyweek you need your body to relax. Walking in the sun and short high intensity lifting sessions 20-30min is the only exercise you should do.

2. hair transplant.
You look like you need around 3500 grafts for good density and a natural hairline. it should come out to 5-6 grand at most high end places in turkey or Thailand (not including travel fees). i got mine done with Dr.patty in Thailand. highly recommend. go on r/hairtransplants for reviews and pick a doctor with a good track record. r/hairtransplants is a lifesaver for not getting botched by some rando in turkey.
(Yes you can get a transplant at age 20. go on r/hairtransplants and see people who got them young i got mine at 23. you can just lie to the doctor that youve been taking fin/min for a year and that your hairloss is stabilized nobody cares)

-the combo of not wearing hats, walking in the sun all day, lowering your gut inflammation and total body inflammation, increasing carbohydrate intake and lowering fat and protein intake slightly, eating easily digesting foods that cause 1-2 bowel movements a day (drinking sugared milk coffee and supplementing magnesium to facilitate bowel movements). Covering all your micronutrients with liver oysters egg yolks milk, salting your foods and getting 3-4grams of potassium daily. and taking showers with baking soda will most likely cure your hairloss.

A blood lab would be useful you likely have either elevated prolactin / estrogen / dhea-s / dysregulated calcium metabolism. Get a blood test for Prolactin ASAP. if you above 20 prolactin this is most likely the cause of your hairloss.
