Looks like he got him in a windpipe coke as opposed to a blood choke. The windpipe ones actually hurt a lot, while the blood ones don't really. But it takes longer for them to put you out because you will stay awake as long as you can hold your breath, whereas a blood choke will put you out in 4 seconds. You can see the difference because a blood choke requires your forearm to compress one side, and your upper arm to compress the other side, so your elbow has to be right in the middle of the front of the neck. Wind choke only requires forearm or wrist in the front, like chocking someone with a metal rod.
